@@s.l5787 in some points you are right. The reverb is a bit excessive. In my opinion, sound production (not digital effects) and structure go hand in hand, and I think Sato illustrated his interpretation clearly with the rhythm and dynamics
@s.l5787
@s.l5787 4 жыл бұрын
@@SimonChengEpic I have no problem with reverb, in fact Bach almost certainly played his own music with reverb as well. My problem is Sato placing rubato everywhere he wants to maximize tone production, rather than following the rhythm clearly indicated in the music which if played with proper amounts of rubato show Bach's structural intent. Same type of criticism applies to Sato's articulation choices.

So often when i just sit back to relax and fully experience these melodies in every fiber of my being i so many times just end up in the extascy where i want to jump up and scream "YES YES YES" as it rubs my entity with sounds that are not focused into rhythm patterns but pure bliss state of flowing through the way of play that i find is the most supreme of us beings as it doesnt mean anything else but the wonderful unfolding of the next note that moves my core. You are so great beloved Shunske Sato.

After hearing Sato's amazing performance of this incredible Bach's Sonata for solo violin, I begin to understand (in paraphrase) the proverb: "Saving one soul as if saving a whole world" - it is as if I've heard all the music in the world. And - just mentioning one little moment (one from so many, only for ex.) that hit my heart most: 3:55 and on. A thousand thanks Sato and NBS for giving my own soul all the tranquility of the world.

@@alanleoneldavid1787 Yes, you are correct, the ceilings were high, but... there was a lot of intricately carved and molded wood and plaster on the ceilings and walls as well as many heavy curtains and heavily upholstered furniture, and above all, there would have been people, both standing and sitting, all dressed in natural fibers. So to sum up, no, I do not believe the sound would have reverberated as much or been as echo-y in Bach"s time as it does in this hall. The playing is masterful and exquisite, and Mr Sato's sensitivity and ability to modulate his volume did help lessen the reverberations a lot. I still believe the acoustics of this hall can be improved by strategically hanging natural fiber tapestry or curtains, especially in the recordings of the younger players featured on this channel. For example, the recording of the D Minor Partita"s Allemande by the young and talented Zohra Jongerius (and I stress that I am not finding fault with her playing but only with the acoustics of the hall) kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6DRaHSXfZiIhas I just can't understand how people don't recognize the excessive reverberations and echo! Maybe my ears are too sensitive.

I also love your interviews. They're very educational and I learned so many things about baroque instruments and how and why they are so important for an authentic sound. Thank you so much for your outstanding work in general and for Mr. Sato's interpretation of Bach's sonatas and partitas in particular. I can hardly wait to watch your next upload.

I am entranced with the bass in the andante sounding like coming from a separated and independent instrument, looking at how much nuance the other voices are given. A few minutes ago I was listening to an album by Gilles Apap, titled Music for Solo Violin, which again includes the BWV 1003 Andante. And I thought the album title must have been a misnomer, because it really sounded like there was another instrument. So I went looking for a performance video and found yours. Surely Mr. Sato is a an impressive performer and quite inspirational.

Music is a language that everyone knows how to speak, some more fluently than others. Sato, in modern terms, has a musical 'accent' in the ears of us perfect pitch people, because he is playing about one whole step down from what we all see today. However, it is more similar to how violins were tuned in Bach's time. However, to most people with relative pitch, there is no difference. I have been playing violin for ten years, and am very fluent in musical notation, sightreading, and music theory. I have a lot of experience, and I have to say: This person is GOOD.

A question. in Andante(3rd mov.), he plays E, instead of written C(measure 22) on the 2nd beat when he plays that measure, 1st time and 2nd time also. As far as I know, it seems Mr. Shunske plays music as it is written(1st time) and does huge variation when he repeats but here, measure 22..I want to know whether it is mistake or he did it on purpose. thank you
