This is a MASTERPIECE ON ALL LEVELS. The music itself of course is a masterpiece of concentration on text and musical precision. But then this performance, which in the blackest of times in the last 80 years I have listened to for comfort and succor so often, goes so beyond anything anyone could reasonably expect on KZbin! This performance of Wachet Auf is, for me, the apotheosis of anything that KZbin and social media can do for us. No English "top group' or French ensemble can rival this single performance of this exquisite and curt Bach cantata. There are multiple intimate camera angles; there are several solists and each renders the singing (not the 'performance' which I am sure Bach would have suspected) in a convincing and revelatory way. At every moment you feel you are in the church, over and among the spectators, we are close to the singers. One never feels that, 'up there' somewhere, there is a proscenium arch. And so WE ARE THE MUSIC ITSELF, WITH THE SINGERS AND THE COMPOSER'S INTENT. -- Of this performance, then: there is no more personal, introspective, and intimate rendition of any piece of music by Bach (I believe) right now on planet earth. This is simply a masterpiece of execution, a masterpiece of intelligent conducting, a masterpiece of intuiive and studied understanding, and finally a masterpiece of being human and seeking divinity and redemption (I speak as a Buddhist). Quite simply: there is nothing like this among millions of other KZbin videos. I sent this to a friend in New York City tonight. He said he would breal into tears had he been there in person. -- Your Honors: we rest our case. Thank you to the Bach Society and to Jos van Veldhoven who called this miracle into the material world and preserved it for us. Please continue to lead us forward. Never have we had more need of you. We need you, now. Please please lead us forward

Approaching 2 million views, and probably 3k of that was from me putting this specific piece on repeat. I made a habit of playing this during shift change from the evening to morning shift, and it seemed to make everyone coming in smile.

This work and this interpretation are beyond sublime. A genius without parallel in musical creation, Bach puts true Beauty in a score and extraordinary musicians give it the life that emanates from musical symbols as they leap into instruments and voices. The quality of the recording is magnificent, allowing every detail, every detail to be absorbed. One feels in the musicians a natural humility of who knows that they are only part of the Music, embodying the work and not becoming conceited with the applauses. We are privileged to have been offered such greatness! Thank you.

This is my all time favorite Bach cantate. Thank you Netherlands Bach Society for this magnificent recording. Zion hört die Wächter singen ... I can listen all day to that music. I believe that Bach must have had a direct line with God when he wrote this.

I've been trying to imagine what my life would be like if Bach had not existed; I guess Mozart would have to fill the empty space. But not knowing the music of the sublimest artist humanity has ever known.... I suppose life would go on regardless. How unbelievably blessed we are to be able to press a few keys and hear beautifully realized performances of this transcendent art. Thanks be to all these wonderful musicians who work so hard to make such excellent recordings.

I am not a knower of classical music, just enjoying it if I come across it. And this was epic and deeply moving ❤️😇🙏 And what also struck me was seeing and hearing how everybody was playing their own unique part, big or small, in their own beautiful way, making the whole sound even more great. This is how I want the world to be 🥰

@ablack7777Toda música se interpreta como si cada nota la hiciera progresivamente más elevada, más pura más sublime. Toda la cantidad de notas y silencios lo clarifica. El ideal es que al final no sobre ni falte nada. Éso consigue Bach. ❤

Thank the Lord for Bach's glorious, sacred music. This cantata is very, very special.

Absolutely agree! By the way, I kindly recommend the appreciation of the work of a living classical composer dedicated mostly to sacred music. I feel myself like a sort of non-official ambassador for his music - and, effectively, also one of his few supporters. He is very, very talented. You won't be disappointed. kzbin.info

It's amazing how the first movement builds tension until it resolves with an unexpected key change in the wonderful Hallelujah (5:05). It is a special moment that the first time one realizes it, it takes you fully defenceless. Even the most agnostic surrenders to faith.

This was the first Cantata I listened to years ago when I was in high school. to this day, and even now, I always hear the quite tread of Christ slowly approaching Zion, while, metaphorically the wise virgins wait, joyously, as if jumping up and down like delighted children. Since then, I have discovered worlds of unimaginable delights in all of Bach's cantata's and thank God for this.

Bach's music is like spring water that bathes the senses and refreshes the soul ... Mostly if it is performed by veteran musicians who love and understand his music ... Delightful rendition. Bravi!!!

Bach was of flesh and blood and every Sunday he had a new cantata to be played at his church. How this heavenly music can be born during his life with wife and a lot of children, quite a normal family life, is a mystery. But born it is, this music that still holds us in its grip. And yes, it is a heavenly music, but made by a man just like you and me. I find this uptaking also heavenly.

Thanks so much Bach Society! ❤️🙏❤️ This piece was created for this time! I believe we're about a week away. Yes, 'wash it off' ! - that last stain on your wedding garment. Bach beckons us NOW from thel heavenlys - 'Wachet Auf' , ruft uns die Stimme ("Wake up", The voice of the Watchmen calls to us)

This is incredible - like Angels on earth - I feel the Love, Faith and Hope in every note....Echoing St Augustine "They who sing pray twice" You sing the wonders the Lord has wrought in our salvation history. With lyre and harp, strings and reeds, and voices sent from heaven you truly praise the transcendent greatness of God. PEACE BE WITH YOU ALL!
