She had a bad experience with a past relationship where the guy wouldn't commit to her so I understand why she didn't want to have the same exact relationship again. It's confirmed right now with his admission that he would even consider being on the show. If he truly loved Rachel, that would not even be a consideration. Why people support Peter with his commitment issues is beyond me. He admitted that he broke the heart of his ex girlfriend, dumping her for no reason, making her cry. He then proceeds to make Rachel cry. Then he insults her for not choosing to compromise herself and choose him with no real commitment or promise of a future together. Peter wants to be the Bachelor. He was not that into Rachel. The emotions you saw were more about hurting yet another good woman, not about losing Rachel. If Rachel chose him, he would strung her along and then quietly broken up with her and place himself right back in the running the Bachelor. Rachel would have blown yet another chance to find lasting, meaningful love. That would have been foolish. A girl only has to be hurt a finite number of times before she grows up. Rachel made a grown woman decision. What if Peter broke up with her...as he was highly likely to do based on his track record...and she met up with Bryan afterwards and he proposed then, would her and Bryan's relationship been any less genuine or meaningful. Did she have to drag herself through another meaningless relationship to get to the same result? Rachel realized that despite her feelings for Peter, he was not going to offer her lasting love or a meaningful relationship because the man who truly loves you will never risk losing you for good. Rachel circumvented the nonsense...as grown women do...and chose the man who truly loves her and was all in from the beginning. That is a person you can trust with your heart and with whom you can grow. I wish both her and Bryan the best. I also wish Peter would relax and stay single until he meets the woman he is willing to risk it all for.

Did he say to her mother that he wants to screw her and not ever marry her? He asked respectfully to date her daughter with the intention of proposing but not in the short period. Her mother even made sure to mention that she didn't want her daughter to be toyed with which he nodded sincerely in agreement to - If he didn't want to be with her he would have left her alone. If he didn' t have an intention to want to pursue her honestly he wouldn't have stayed to the end begging her to give it a try. I would rather have a young man be genuinely honest with me about where he stands with my daughter than to say one thing, put a ring on her finger to show good tv and prove to be something different. I could see that her mother appreciated that as well. While she made the right choice for herself at the moment she found herself, I think it is unfair to dismiss the fact this guy may have been one of the most sincere of them all on the show. To say I do want to be with you, however I am just not able to give you what you want right now - I don't understand why some people will not take into consideration that he might have just been taking it a little more seriously than others...

In order to gain public favour and sympathy and be in consideration of the bachelor mantle he couldn't pull a 'Brooks' on her and walk away from the process when he KNEW DEEP DOWN she wasn't the one. I go back to my original reason why Peter was indecisive with Rachel. It was undoubtedly her emotional/physical connection with Bryan. At the end of the day, the dude could not deal with the competition plain and simple. Bryan went "old school" and chase the girl. The way I think it should be. Peter is not equipped for this type of program. If he can handles the emotions of dealing with one woman what you think he can compartmentalize balancing the emotional process of 30 women. I see this dude crying like a baby everyday as "The Bachelor".

This is my personal opinion but I don't think someone telling me to have a mediocre life would really bother me unless I thought it was true. Like I get it's petty and they were both emotional at the time but every interview brings it up like he told her to go die or something lol. Just my opinion. Also, he did a good job in this interview but they aren't asking him the hard questions like they've asked Rachel. The question we all want to know is 'Did you go on the show to become the next Bachelor?' 'Do you think you strung Rachel along?' 'Why did you come on the show if you have commitment issues?' Like get to the core of it. I think their breakup and reunion showed unresolved feelings mostly on Rachel's part. Kinda looks like Peter has moved on at this point. Hopefully everyone found/finds what they are looking for.

Let's be real here: time will tell. Time will tell us what Peter's true intentions were and what kind of a man he is. If he agrees to do the Bachelor, then we know he was faking on Rachel, and all these mid-western values he espoused were a sham. If he says no, then we will know that he is the real deal and that Rachel missed out. My hope is that he gets a chance to talk to Rachel off-camera and in private for the sake of closure. If Rachel truly loves Bryan and vice versa then I wish them both the best.

He's very calculated. He uses honesty as his way of doing it so that people can literally say "but he told you". He told her he wasn't ready to propose but he was also telling her that he saw a future with her and wanted to be with her. He literally said this is not the moment, but she may be the person. He told her that he refused to lose her. And I can't image what other things he was saying when the cameras weren't there or what was caught on camera and not shown to us. The fact that he wanted to reach out to her again after they broke up is also another reason. He's that ex that doesn't want you but makes you feel as if he does. Dee Dee okay maybe that’s what you think but I don’t think any of us are mind readers so we can’t be sure what he actually wanted. In my opinion I really think that he actually did care about Rachel and I truly understand why he wasn’t ready to propose. They’ve literally only been on a few dates. He wanted to get to know Rachel better because he didn’t wanted to make a mistake cause he only want to marry once. 🤔 He said he needed more time. Going in, the goal was to propose. If he got his own show would that mean he is all of a sudden ready, or was that always the goal. 🤔 Don't get me wrong, I was rooting for him and Rachel but he never wavered in his principles. She decided to keep him around even though he continued to tell her he wasn't ready. Letting go earlier would have saved them both a lot of heartache.

She said, when she was walking out of the hotel in the rain, that she hoped she wasn't making a mistake in sending the wrong person home. I would have taken more time. They give you 2 years to keep the ring. I think he would have figured it out by then. There are no guarantees with anyone. I wish them all the best.

The mediocre statement was made only because he saw Bryan at the time as sleezeballing smooth talker and he didn't want Rachel to end up with that type of person. Nothing wrong with what he said. Peter would have strung her along for 5years with no commitment. Rachel made the right choice. When she was defending Bryan to her family she said Bryan is her best friend, and that is exactly who your spouse is supposed to be. wow...some strong words here, Lovely_Day. Do you actually know the guy personnally, were you one of the women he emotionally abused to make such a claim? Let's keep it real. On the show, Peter never made any promise he did not follow up upon. In case you watched Rachel and Peter's relationship unfold, you may remember that he was consistently open to her about which stage he was at with his feelings towards her throughout the journey. On their second date, he even told her that he does not know at that point if he will be ready to get down on one knee at the end, should he be among the last men standing. This, essentially because they may not have had enough time to get to know each other (4 one on one dates by this show's pressure cooker schedule!) to form that very deep bond that he sees as so important before asking a woman to marry him. Sounds perfectly reasonnable to me!!

In my humble opinion, the emotional abuse we saw in this show came from a totally different place. Namely from the ABC producers who sold their soul for ratings. Casting an alleged racist as one of Rachel's suitors just to stir up drama was not only abusive but appalling - America's first black bachelorette deserved so much better! More so, to make the PROPOSAL the ultimate goal of this dating show is a) putting a lot of emotional stress on those leads and contestants that actually take an engagement serioulsy (think of promising to marry the guy you just met 7 weeks ago and had no more than 4 solo dates with...) and b) completely discreditting the value of an engagement (= promise of marriage by definition) --> NOT ROMANTIC AT ALL!

Bachelor or bachelorette its all the same. If Peter loved Rachel he would of proposed. If he had met her on Bachelor same outcome. He was not deeply in love with Rachel he blames it on the process but what's wrong with him is that he hasn't found the right woman yet. When he does he will propose. From what we know he broke up with his ex. He's looking for a certain something in the woman he chooses. Just because someone is the bachelorette does not mean love will bloom and they should get a proposal. He hasn't met the right person yet.

For the longest time, I was team Peter but his actions towards the ending were giving me the side eye. Seems like Peter has commitment issues especially after hearing how he ended his past relationship for this same issue. His mom even said he's not ready for marriage. He's like in his mid 30's, a good woman is NOT gonna wait around forever. Peter reminds me of the "let's see how this goes" type of guy. Which is strange because the Bachelor/Bachelorette franchise is about that fairy tale romance with a proposal at the end. Peter isn't that kind if guy, so why's he on here? He needs to work on himself before starting relationships with women who are ready for serious relationships and marriages. At first I was mad Rachel didn't pick him, but now I can see why she did what she did. I also think the producers should have focused less on the Peter drama and more on the other guys so we could have seen their personalities. I just hate how everyone is painting Rachel to be bitchy and Peter to be this heartbroken innocent guy. Trust me, he would have never proposed to Rachel. It doesn't take long for guys to fall in love the way girls do.

Suzyfreak uh, it sort of is. You either propose and get engaged or you give a 'promise' ring and 'promise to embark upon a relationship... contractual obligations... Further, it states if the engagement lasts two years, the girl gets to keep the ring. We have two couples out there for whom it's been two or more years and they still aren't married but the girls get to keep the $ 50,000 rings or above which I think Rachel is going to do. She and Bryan will have broken up the year before but will not be allowed to say it or tell it until two years expires.

To all those people who think that if he won't propose then he cannot be the next Bachelor: not every season of this show ends with a proposal. I think even the very first season of this show didn't end with a proposal. And there have also been seasons where neither of the final two was chosen. The only reason there are so many proposals is because most of the fans demand it and get mad when it doesn't end with a proposal or happy ending. But yeah, he can be the Bachelor and not propose.
