Maybe its just your skill, but that statter has better sound than a lot of high end shamisen I’ve heard. I love traditional Japanese music, but That bluegrass riff has me sold! Oh and btw, as a lifelong resident with 10,000+ years of lineage in these mountains, it’s pronounced “Appalatcha” (Ap uh latch uh”) I do believe I’ll purchase one of these this year. Much obliged.

Technique does make a big difference, but it is a very nice sounding shamisen as well, I really like the tone. :) Ah, thank you for the note on appalatcha pronunciation! I hear my friends pronounce it that way, but somehow I always turn my a's into ey's. 😆

Not that i need one, but the kit looks very nice! also nice to see a starter kit where the plastic bachi isn't built for people with hands like a sleep paralysis monster :D

just curious, is the "replacement" for the shamibuddy? i believe you mentioned when the buddy was on its last round that you'd be getting a cheaper regular shamisen in to sell more-or-less in its place, so i'm guessing this is it. how would you say it compares to a shamibuddy?

Good question! Yes it is. 😅Unfortunately, I had a big misunderstanding with my partner Nitta san, and it turns out the price couldn't get as low as the shamibuddy was. However, in the next year we're hoping to list more used shamisen (in good condition) which will hopefully bring down the cost. Regarding how it compares to the shamibuddy, it's a bit of a hard thing to compare. This is a "real deal" shamisen, and so it sounds, well, like it's peers. :) Shamibuddy also does sound like a shamisen of course, but it's not 100% identical as the shape and material of the body is a bit different, which affects the tone. (Not in a bad way, just different)
