Love the double Fairlie, the attention to detail that bachmann put into it is amazing and it's a better runner then I thought, it certainly makes me want to give 009 a go one day 😀

They are stunning! Bachmann did a really good job and I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people have been tempted over to 009 because of these... I certainly was! Thanks for watching 😃

I absolutely love the double fairlie. It's one of the most expensive models I've bought but it's so nice and runs fantastic. I don't know if you heard, but Bachmann USA announced the other week that they're going to start producing models of Talyllyn! I think it would be awesome if you decide to pick one of those up. No price or release date yet, but the concept art looks great
@ThatModelRailwayGuy

Yeah they're definitely expensive but the price is justified I think if you model 009. I did see the news about Bachmann producing Talyllyn - I'm very much looking forward to it and it'll be interesting to compare to the existing Skarloey models too. Thanks for watching 😃

In my end across the pond (the states itself) it looks like Talyllyn is gonna be 179.99 USD, I've gone and pre-ordered all 3 from Trainworld in Brooklyn, NY (they ship internationally btw and payment isn't due till the item is available in their shop), and I can't wait as I'm eventually gonna make a dual gauged layout combining Tywyn Wharf, Blaenau Ffestiniog, Abyerystwyth, and Pehnryn Port, so I'm also looking forward to the Quarry Hunslets.

That is a fine looking loco, indeed. All the lining, plates, and detailing seem just right. Also seems to run very well. Even the cost, well that's about what we can expect to pay today for this level of detail and quality. What's more, it looks great on the layout!

The cramped for the crew, I was looking in an old tram in the nearby park. I thought then there was little thought for the driver. Just a small round bit of wood to sit on in bugger all space.

The crew's comfort definitely wasn't taken into consideration with these older engines... it's definitely not like a BR standards were working conditions were a bit more reasonable! Thanks for watching 😃

I purchased mine shortly after Bachmann released them and it arrived on my birthday. I'm waiting on the Quarry Hunslets so, in the meantime, I'll be planning my Ffestiniog layout.

Brilliant, that worked out nicely then! Yes I'm also very much looking forward to the Hunslets too - I think they'll end up being the Pecketts of the 009 world! Thanks for watching 😃

I just ordered one, from kernow, and much to my surprise, I got it cheaper despite living in Australia, because I don’t have to pay VAT, which knocked 30 quid from the price… was not expecting that. In Australian money, that’s at least about 100 dollars cheaper than buying one here, and that’s a minimum. They can get waaaay more pricey here

It is good to see the growth 009 has experienced over the last few years! It's now much more of a viable option for more casual modellers and I think offers a great alternative to 00 Gauge where space is an issue. Thanks for watching 😃

Bachmann certainly have done a good job with these. They look really nice. Though, presently 009 isn't something I'm invested in. Maybe if they or another manufacturer were to produce locomotives from the Ravenglass/Eskdale railway I'd be more inclined to take the plunge (or at least buy a loco). Cheers
@ThatModelRailwayGuy
@ThatModelRailwayGuy Жыл бұрын
I've often thought there's a good market for doing a range based on the Ravenglass & Eskdale locos and the RH&DR railway too. Presumably they would be too small and delicate to model in the same scale as 00 like 009 does, which is perhaps why none of the major manufactures have had a go... yet. Thanks for watching 😃

@ThatModelRailwayGuy
@ThatModelRailwayGuy Жыл бұрын
Hey Greg, it would definitely be cool to get ideas from others in the future. Putting it into a video would be more tricky though as the ones where I just sit and talk are a be a bit boring and I'm not sure I have the resources to try out multiple techniques for the first time in a video. Never say never though! Thanks for watching 😃

Hey Gino, in an ideal scenario I would definitely test that out. Having only just got into 009 though I don't have that much rolling stock at the moment - although perhaps it's something I'll test out in the future if I end up with more. Thanks for watching 😃

Out of curiosity, does this engine run better now that you have DCC fitted it?
@ThatModelRailwayGuy

Yeah generally the control does seem to be much better on DCC, although out of the two Double Fairlies I have this is the more tentative one. What's the radius of the tight curve at 8:30?
@ThatModelRailwayGuy
@ThatModelRailwayGuy 10 ай бұрын
It's hard to say for certain but the main circuit is just under R1 and the tight siding curve is about half that so I'd say probably around 4.5" at it's tightest point. That said I wouldn't recommend running it through curves like this regularly, but it's ok once in a while to pick up wagons. Thanks for watching 😃

I wince every time you wave a screw driver next to detailed & expensive paint work & detailing. Would not a Barbecue skewer (or similar) work as well as a pointy thing with less risk to your models?
@ThatModelRailwayGuy
@ThatModelRailwayGuy Жыл бұрын
Haha, one of these days I really should get one of the those pointers with a foam hand on the end 😆 The funny thing is that (because you can't really see depth on the white background) the screwdriver is often more than a foot away from the model. Thanks for watching 👍
