Hi Bill Super video and a tricky repair job. I will treasure the loco when she comes home. Top job Trevor

What a great locomotive ,. Nice too that it was kept as original as possible with its sentimental value .

Interesting repair job on this one! I recommend buying the Bachmann as it is more detailed and accurate and seems to run just as well as Hornby's.

Bachmann every time for me. At least they have spares for their locos!
@Shauniboy19847 сағат бұрын
Also the finish doesnt look like chalk green
@stephendavies69495 сағат бұрын
@Shauniboy1984 Agreed. I favour the Hornby version, but Bachmann really have nailed the finish.

Hello Bill. I have 2 Hornby Tornados, both with hugely powerful motors that also include flywheels. They're heavy old beasts and have 8 pin DCC sockets. Each can easily pull 18 Hornby Teaks around the layout, which has some very tight curves and a couple of gradients too. Their weak point is the front bogie, which can struggle to stay on the track, but I've used the fix suggested by Barrie Davis, and added a few washers to it, which seems to have done the trick. If you do buy one and apply the bogie fix, watch out for the really tiny black plastic nut in the bogie assembly. It's ability to leap off into the abyss is as good as that of the springs in a ringfield motor! Both cost me under £60ea. PS: Who's the new, stern-looking woman character standing outside the pub?

Hi Bill another wonderful repair, just keep watching your video’s at least a couple of times

Hello there I've got both the Bachmann one and the Hornby one. Different liveries and I actually prefer the Bachmann one. The Hornby one has less detail, but does have a flywheel. Both where second hand from a local retailer to me.

Quite a Tricky Operation but you made it look Easy - Impressive Looking Loco that Looks Well at Home on Your Layout. 😉

I can recommend against the Hornby railroad one, as it has terrible pick-up issues, without tender pickups. Mine stutters all the time, and try as I might I haven't been able to make it reliable. On the other hand, if you do get one - perhaps you will crack the code and get it working and make a video I can follow!

Top repair and Im sure the owner will be super pleased. As per my coments on one of your other videos, 100% go for a Bachmann A1 - cheers Shaun

Nice looking loco. Did you say that the shuttle could be made to stop at the main station. And if so are you going to have a go?

I have a Hornby version,no issues at all it's a lovely runner.
@stephendavies69498 сағат бұрын
Yeah, so is mine

Excellent as ever. I suspect my "thumping" Hornby Coronation also has a split gear. However, with a repair such as this, I get rather nervous and reluctant as soon as one has to disturb either valve gear or the thin wiring.
@stephendavies69495 сағат бұрын
@jeffreysmith156 Well, as Bill says, give it a go, and if you get stuck, send him an email and ask for his help. This is what I've done several times.

Hi Bill. I have this loco in this colour. I have not had the chance to run it yet due to house moves and unforeseen circumstances. But I don,t know if you know this but yo can also get Tornado in blue . I know that you have a thing for blue loco's. I was lucky enough to travel behind Tornado on the Watercress line many years ago , the return trip was behind the A4 Bittern. What a day. Best of luck.

I have one of these myself! Absolutely BEAUTIFUL model! And honestly I feel the Bachmann model is just a lot better than the Hornby model not only in terms of its looks, but running as well. And I'm not sure if you're much of a Top Gear fan or not, but Tornado appeared in the "Race to the North" special in BR Apple Green, so I really feel if there's any livery to get, it's that one
@stephendavies69498 сағат бұрын
Hello. I have a Hornby Tornado and a Bachmann North Eastern, and IMO the Hornby model is the better performer, although the Bachmann is the better looking model. The Hornby is heavier & has a flywheel. I have dozens of steam locos and I would say Tornado is easily in the top 3 of my best runners and haulers. Regards & happy modelling.

Hornby for me although I haven't got a tornado . I have only bought one new Backman a bubblecar which had a faulty drive shaft and was returned. Replaced with a faultless hornby version Interesting that the dwarf in the gearbox was the same Colour as the loco suggestion that a bit of dodgy quality control .
@czwij8 сағат бұрын
Greetings, is the rear truck fixed like that on the real machine? seems a bit odd....with the rear wheels slopping around like that
@JerseyBill-x9r7 сағат бұрын
Excellent repair as always. If I were to buy a Tornado it would be a Hornby simply because in the states, the parts you purchased to repair the Bachmann are not available here and Bachmann mechanism has always been problematic especially the split gear problem. It is as if it had designed in obsolesce and this was Bachmann fulfilling their mission statement. I do have to say the Bachmann looks better than the Hornby and you are where parts are available so good luck and I'm no help at all, lol. Jersey Bill

I have the Bachmann version like the one in the video and also the Hornby Railroad one in BR green from the R1169 set. The Hornby one isn't bad but the Bachmann one has better detail and motor.

Hi Bill Great video i think you should go bachmann parts maybe easier too get
@AndrésMahou8 сағат бұрын
You should have put 10 bogies behind her Bill.. Easy
@aspicer155 сағат бұрын
I found the Bachmann one the best runs better paint looks better semi gloss finish better lining and cab detail brass nameplates .unlike the Hornby which is matt finish and its not got Hornby's rear pony truck where the flangeless wheels don't touch the track.
@grahamlane13135 сағат бұрын
Hi bill nice repair bachmann must be making more money by not selling the gear you need own .that must 20 pounds at least for all the replacement wheels
@grahamlane13134 сағат бұрын
Hi bill why don t they made the gears out of metal stop them splitting
@AndreAucamp-vl7ec5 сағат бұрын
eBay Bachmann one the best, also not silly money.
@tonyslight8265 сағат бұрын
what ever one you get make sure it has wheel bearings most all Hornby's locos have bearings most Bachmann don't but they have started with some.
