The one shocker is there are still no turned metal bearings. Something that should be standard and something a well known critic will go to town on. I have to agree though in 2023 no bearings is unacceptable especially seeing as Bachmann had ample opportunity to address this in the upgrade. Shocking!

Do not fix that rod, as its only fixed one end, this is for removal on the body from the chassis... The smokebox is the hottest part of the loco and only a single rolled structure ( no cladding ) and usually weather very quickly, other than that, a really great model and still a worthy contender to the new Hornby model, great review...

I don't like the idea of having the tender pickups pop-riveted in place. Not to mention the curious idea of having them on the from two axles only.

Being as these models are OO Guage, will they operate on say US Style HO Code 83 rail? Ive always been curious because admittidly, British steam is gorgeous.

HO and OO have the same width in track so it should work.

very informative video , thank you! The new Bachman , does it have a working light ( LED) in the Firebox ? I could not noticed any orange glow on your video but please confirm. The function "6" Open / Close Firebox door , is that just mechanical sound only or/and there is also a working light in the box? Warm regards from Western Australia jack

The tooling dates back to 2006 so there is no firebox glow. Long before features like that and factory fitted speakers became the norm in the UK. I suspect they'd have to retool the model in order to add that feature. Function 6 is just a sound file.

@@18EStudios Odd, there were a few old Triang Hornby things with firebox glow back in the day, their Scotsman had it and I have an old N7(?) with it. They just stopped doing it by the mid 70's.

The old tooling is more than sufficient and a good second hand example can be picked up for peanuts these days

These aren’t bad models by any means. I respect Sam’sTrains, but I do think he got a faulty model, but there is little he can do about that, and at the same time I can see why these wouldn’t run well since it’s a large, heavy engine with lots of wheels, and the square bearings would probably make a lot of friction… Have you tried running yours around curves? I’m just wondering because I know multiple people (not just Sam) have reported these slowing down a lot going around them.
@18EStudios Жыл бұрын
Sorry about the late reply. I have ran these two models plus my Evening Star (also Bachmann) and there's a slight slowdown when going around curves but my Hornby one (new tooling) does the same. Not as bad as the one Sam'sTrains reviewed but it is a little noticeable.

@@18EStudios The lack of turned bearings aside. This new Bachmann 9F and indeed offers in my opinion insufficient improvement over the old Bachmann tooling which Sam's Trains ripped to shreds especially when the new Hornby 9F suffers from the same problem however he was much less damning in his review. Lack of consistency and alas a growing lack of transparency on his part.

Yers they are horrible on even R3, forget R2. It is a powerful motor but not worth the money they are asking.

@@guyclark2975 I think it was partly because there have been so many locomotives with torque issues lately, so he probably is just getting sick of mentioning it. He did give the Hornby one a hard time though, and in one of his livestream he even acknowledged that Hornby lied to customers about the motors in them. And he’s only human, as are you and I. We can’t do everything perfectly…

No doubt the plastic axle spacers on the tender axles will go the same way as the split chassis locos and split and deteriorate. So why couldn't steel axles be fitted with an insulated wheel and wiper pickups to the rear of the wheels give that these are ridiculous money? Ans = Corporate Greed.
