This is the problem when you did not disassemble the repair. Not everyone is as meticulous as you are with the parts. I am impressed that the motion bracket and valve gear were available to you. We don't have an outlet here in the State's and I envy you your location. Love the videos, keep them coming. Jersey Bill

Got to love tea and tarts. It's always a nightmare finding the right screws. I've got a whole tin full.

Thanks to your content, I have actually mended a thing today. My 50 years old Hornby blue Jinty 7178 loco wouldn't move and noticed an overload on the controller. A closer look at the loco and I could see the brass contact touching the chassis creating a short so I carefully bent it so that it touches the wheels only and then cleaned it up - and lo and behold the little loco runs like a charm for the first time since I got it when I was 10 years old in 1977. Keep the content coming in.

I have a very similar tale to tell. My 50+ year old Jinty has such large wheel flanges that, even though it's now running, catches the sleepers on modern track, so is probably going to spend the rest of its days on static display.

I commend you for showing the difficult, fiddly parts of your work. Otherwise one might think it is always easy.

You mean to tell me you edit out all the dropped screws, fiddling around and cursing? And here was I thinking you were such an experienced professional you didn't suffer from all the stuff I do. 😁 Already dissembled locos truly are a nightmare to rebuild. I'm sure in the next part we'll see it running. Good on you Bill.

It was the same with the postage for me when I ordered Graham Farish spares from the Bachmann website last week… £3 worth of items, £5 postage in that same little box

Hi Bill, I have one of these Bachmann Austerity locos in British Rail black - it was a Christmas present a few years ago from my son. It is a really fine runner on DCC. However, it fell from quite a height but looking at what you are faced with I'm so glad that mine suffered no damage as a result of the fall!! Am enjoying the videos - thank you.

I can confirm that this one fell from about 6 feet, onto a solid wooden floor. It ran very smoothly prior to that unfortunate mishap... I was re-arranging my display shelves, and managed to dislodge the shelf this was sitting on with my elbow whilst standing on a set of steps. The Std class 5, LNER K3 & GWR class 42 that also hit the floor remained - inexplicably but thankfully - pretty much intact.

Hi Bill, I wasn't to sure about this style of video to begin with, however, really informative and interesting. 10/10. Not perhaps every time, yet well worth pursuing. Pete Y

Regarding the cost of postage by Bachmann, this is a common problem when buying small single items from most firms. All one can do is the try to combine orders and to get other spares at the same time, something you could not do in this instance.

Ah Bill, what would we do without contact cleaner? Wonderful stuff!! Hats off to Bachmann even if it is fiddly. That sprung chassis compensation is impressive. It must’ve cost them a fortune to develop.

Liking the format of these videos Bill, (warts & all) , pleased I'm not the only one that hates slotted screws.

I bought one of these new and, only after I had to repair my other one bought on Ebay, I discovered that the new one was missing one of the sprung compensators for one of the main axles. Fortunately Bachmann supply spare ones.

OMD! Jiggery Faffery to the Max! - You’ll be able to complete this one blindfold, with all the Back n forth 😉 Dropping the Screws and Juggling all those assemblies, was Very Tense indeed 😂 It’s about time you had a Sponsorship from WD40 and with the Endoscope views you could also be doing Nail Products 😄 Enjoy your Bakewell you deserve that one 👍🏻

You rightfully complain about postage. Try living out here in Thailand! I was quoted through a very well known supplier £33 postage for a set of mainline buffers, value £3.99! Many sellers also "forget" to remove VAT when shipping out here too! Disgrace!
