Came here after hearing Pincombe's vaunted interpretation, during which I was thinking, "This cannot be right. Bach never meant for ponderous emo pauses and gritty emo scraping." (I swear he's a kinkster from the leather bar circuit; it just has that "Imma make you my bitch as you succumb to my passion" attitude.) So I came here hoping to hear what it might really have been meant to sound like and Maisky's craft is a balm! So moving and lovely. What a relief!

I had a similar feeling. I mean, I have absolutely no idea about Bach's intentions, maybe Pincombe is closer to the "original" and of course I don't want to question his musicianship. But personally I don't like that the cello is so often associated with that over-the-top sombre sound and prefer these "lighter" interpretations.
