The word "ancient" indicates 1000 years or older. ..Hence, the ancient Roman's. I know of no significant composers from the year 1024 and on back.

Martha Argerich knows every musical note by heart: thousands of notes, simply extraordinary! And every note is necessary, they have to be there on time and in the right pitch, no note is superfluous, van Beethoven took care of that!

Sheer delight! As the grande dame of pianism Mme Argerich has the authority to introduce rubatos and accelerandos at will and this she did liberally, exploring their delights triumphantly. I have played the piano for 80 years. I am very familiar with the Beethoven concerti. Marthe has been listed as the 9th best pianist of 100 greatest piano players. That judgment includes those who are living or deceased. It also includes pianists playing with musicality as well as technical skills. Apparently you know the scores of every piece she has played. She is a player without a peer & hardly misses notes at all.

My uncle Holman had dementia but remembered his classical pieces on his 7 foot Steinway!!!!!!!!!! Scarlatti, Bach Chopin. Rach 3 with no orchestra.We were too poor to figure out in 1950 how to get an orchestra and no scores on tape to accompany him!!! All my toys were under this piano XXXXXOOOOO!!!

I was blessed to be in the same room with this awesome soul last Friday. She did not disappoint! Effortless, flawless as expected, but so "living" of a voice on the instrument.
