So you took a drive, lost your ball. So shouldn't it be dropping 2 playing 3 instead of playing 4 like you did?

@@garyhunter493 No, normally in competitive play you'd go back to the tee and hit your third shot, but in casual play you can drop in the fairway with a 2 shot penalty. Basically the same as if you hit a successful third shot from the tee, so for high handicappers it is almost always the best option.

I was also curious about that too. I think it’s only one if I’m understanding this right…. 18.2b What to Do When Ball Is Lost or Out of Bounds If a ball is lost or out of bounds, the player must take stroke-and-distance relief by adding one penalty stroke and playing the original ball or another ball from where the previous stroke was made (see Rule 14.6). So we always say “I’m dropping 2, hitting 3”
