In Australia the main roads tend to use metal pipes but when you see the condition of this metal pipe makes you wonder why concrete pipes are not used if its cost they are worried about the price of replacment should be accounted that pipe would not be 75 years old so to save a penny cost you plenty in replacment factors

Your attention to detail is phenomenal, most would have left that small piece of metal, not you, cleaned up completely. A joy to see you work.

11:55 I was actually wondering how close you could get to the edge of the pit without it caving in, and a second later I'm screaming at the monitor "Back Up! Back Up! Back Up!", then realize he was not going over the edge, just tipping over the dirt he had moved. Five minutes later and the adrenaline was finally settling down and pretty much gone by the end of video! Hey Chris, let's keep it less exciting....

I see a lot of comments saying the business should just do all the pipe at once. Easy to say, when it isn’t your money. I understand the pipe will be this bad elsewhere, but the pipe x 2 lines, 36” and 48” , from there to the building, under all that parking that’s likely paved = $1million plus. Even a business this large (apparently) just does not have that kind of cash laying around. It takes planning and time drumming up the funds. If they finance the whole job now, the interest might be equal to the cost of doing it piece by piece. The technology out there for lining the pipes has greatly improved and may just do the job. Regardless, kinda think about if suddenly you had to re-do the weeping tile around your home (for those with basements) or the sewer line all the way out to the road. Most people will have to plan on how to take on those sudden costs. $8,000 - $40,000 + would be a shocker to you or almost anyone. We don’t know the whole picture, maybe they line the pipes only to buy time to plan the full capital expenditure at once later. It is likely to cause some sort of shut down of the business while the work is done. It isn’t just so easy as to say ‘do it!’ Your businesses you supply will need a heads up to deal with the time your business is down, and so on. It is a huge undertaking with large repercussions. I suspect they were not aware of the issue and now they will deal with in a manner they can afford as time goes on. I guess I’m just saying all the armchair quarterbacks are not aware, shutting down and doing it all at once will not just affect this company, it will affect everyone they supply goods and or services to. It works so long as there is no sudden collapse that may shut them down. They did pay for cameras to scope the lines and create a plan. We just don’t know the entire plan and circumstances surrounding how they can enact these plans. Wait and see.

Most corps have a 1, 3, 5, 7 and 10 year capex plan and the capex planning budget is usually put together sometime late 1st Q or early 2nd Q. So it's about a year before some funds could even be made available in the budget without dipping into emergency reserve funds. Doubtful a company would fund all of this in 1 year, they have other important needs for that same capex. A project this large and costly would likely be split over 3-5 years if conditions of the pipe allow it.

Spraying concrete over pipes as a protective layer is common in Europe, works great. I am not certain if it works for this type of pipe, must be sprayed well.
