As a kid, hey dude was my absolute favorite show ever. I'm 42 now, and the nostalgic feeling towards the show still stays in my heart

I remember watching Hey dude when first aired in 1989. My brothers and I loved it and quickly became hooked and watched it for a several years. For a reference I was 10 in 89 and that was 35 years ago. For fun I tried to show my kids it on paramount+ a few years ago. They might have liked it if they were younger but by then they were in their mid to late teens so it was so it was more of a joke to them. But for me it will always be regarded with fond memories ❤

The whereabouts of Joe Torres (Danny) from Hey Dude is one of those unsolved mysteries that's been floating around the web for years. We know what happened to all of the main cast members after Hey Dude wrapped up production, except for Joe. He seemed to disappear off the face of the Earth. My guess is Joe just wanted to live a normal life, away from the fame, and not be bothered by any fans of the show. He made his money from the show and dipped. There's been a few rumors spread about him online, but the most plausible one I've read is that Joe still lives and works in Tucson, Arizona. A few people have posted on social media that he's a regular at a bar in Tucson called "The Nugget" and that he's known as José around those parts (the Spanish form of the name Joe/Joseph.) I also saw a post from someone who said he was David A. Litteral (assistant director on 22 episodes of Hey Dude and staff writer), and he also said Joe lives in Tucson and works for a property management firm. Assuming that guy is the real David A. Litteral, I feel like he'd be someone who'd know. Whatever the case is, I hope Joe is alive and well, and living a happy life. It would be cool if David Lascher and Christine Taylor could somehow track Joe down and convince him to be on their podcast. If nothing else, just so he can confirm and/or dispel any rumors about him, but I don't think he cares.

@@benjaminvlz It's all conjecture and unsubstantiated rumors.

@@benjaminvlz It's weird though not like he's a mega superstar. Joe was a local from Tucson as I understand surely the the cast has meet his family and wouldn't be hard to find. It's weird Joe wouldn't want to be found, maybe he had legal trouble or an incident happen and he just doesn't want attention that's all I can think of.

I watched KZbinrs travel out to your old shooting location, and it's WILD to me that for a VERY VERY VERY long time after your shooting was done that the sets were all still out there in the desert! So nice to have found you have a Podcast now, I'm a huge fan from the 90's!

Hey Dude was legit a great show. Groundbreaking in a lot of ways. I watched it in its original run (am 45 now, going on 46). It was appointment viewing. I was the oldest of 2 kids with a developmentally disabled younger sister and a single working mom, so I was largely on my own most of the time (latchkey). At that time in my life Ted, Danny and the gang at the Bar None Guest Ranch were my best friends. Across the TV screen. (We didn't have much, but we had cable and Nickelodeon.) Hey Dude was my FAVORITE show as a kid. I loved it. It was so far ahead of its peers like Pinwheel and You Can't Do That On Television. As far as the content they were willing to do (talking about dating! on a kids' show!) and just the chemistry and rapport between the actors and characters. At the age of 11-14 I would have given anything to fly off in Admiral Kirk's starship Enterprise (circa Star Trek movies II-V) AND spend a summer, or two, or three, with Ted and the gang at the Bar None. I own two copies of the SHOUT! DVD boxed set (complete series) and also stream the episodes on Paramount Plus. (Two copies because I misplaced the original boxed set [purchased at Walmart in 2014 or 2015] and bought a new copy on Amazon [it's exactly the same thing, even same bar code/UPC], then found my original DVDs in a box in my garage.) Would be really nice to find out what happened to Joe "Danny" Torres and see what the whole cast is up to now, especially since it's been ten years since the last major reunion. Maybe there could even be a reunion MOVIE made... with the season 1 regulars (Ted, Danny, Melody, Brad, Lucy, Buddy and Mr. Ernst) together again. (Keep the budget low, film out in the desert somewhere and stream that MFer on PP.) I'm not really a shipper but I imagine in some alternate universe, Ted and Brad (and Melody with... ? and Danny with... ?) were a thing and even Mr. Ernst settled down with someone on the ranch and never moved back east. I visited Tanque Verde Guest Ranch in 2020, 2021 and 2022 and found the actual shooting location(s). Mostly gone now, but it's awesome that fans can still visit (thank you, TVGR!) and see where the series was filmed.

I was born in 1991 when Nickelodeon aired the final season of Hey Dude. So I missed out on the series when the episodes initially aired, but Nick continued airing reruns of it for a number of years. I can remember watching Salute Your Shorts, followed by Hey Dude, on weekend afternoons in the mid-90s. When I think about Hey Dude, I think back to being a '90s kid, which involved watching/enjoying Nickelodeon and not having a care in the world. One of these days, I'll have to go back and re-watch the whole series of Hey Dude because there's a lot I forgot about the show.
