So is the back bevel applied directly to the swivel knife cut or is the cut beveled to the outside first? Am I correct to assume back beveling is basically beveling toward the inside? Can you use a regular steep beveler?

The back beveler is used before the regular bevelers. It does go right into the cut on the opposite inside to round over the shape. A modeling spoon can do something similar. I'd never seen a back beveler before I made mine. I wanted a power driven modeling tool to round parts of my work that would really set that curve in there. When I was writing my book on leather tooling I asked Berry King to make them so I could have someone to send students to be able to get them. He named them 'back bevelers. We worked through a few tweaks to them and they are working great.

hello, the video is very informative. The first puncture iron is this a homemade? If so, how did you sand it? Greetings from Frankfurt Germany

I make the back bevelers myself. Barry King also makes them. They are filed from a stainless steel bolt.
