have watched a few episodes now. you guys always have big beaming smiles, which is nice. I'm 1/2 of a gay male couple as well, and we have an old horse stable with a farmhouse. we do our own work as well...have remodeled the farmhouse twice, and remodeled our house in town 3 times, as well as work the barns and property, and used to board horses as well. we rarely have smiles while working together - 2 competitive men! - that instead of smiling we're usually yelling at each other! fortunately still together after more than 30 years.

Good news about baby and surrogate! There is hardly any place in this video where Bram and you are not smiling and happy to be back together and the baby doing well. The desk for the office is perfect. Bram's skills set keeps increasing and Simon, your have made a huge difference to the property through all the tree removal, weed cutting, grass mowing, planting, clearing of debris, etc. Saw the fruit growing and the trees you planted growing. Each of your skill sets compliment the other's and your love make you such a strong team. The house is going to be beautiful. Did all the new windows get installed? Looking forward to next weeks vlog! 😊❤

Hello Bram and Simon! We just found your channel 2 weeks ago and are now caught up on all of your videos! We’ve enjoyed them so much. Especially all the skills and talent you show in your renovations. We really love what you’re doing and have so much respect for your plans for the property. You guys are really making your own path! We live in Brant County, Canada where we are making our property in to a self-sufficient small holding for all of our fruits and vegetables. So “hello” from Dave and Peter! All the very best to both of you and we can’t wait to see more!

Hey you two...... Your baby girl is okay and thriving ❤ phew... I was worried. You are both very inspirational for sharing your journey. Your mystery salad is Rocket.... very peppery. Have you tried Webb's wonderful lettuce? It has a full heart like iceberg but is way tastier xx p.s.... if you wrap salad leaves in tin foil then they will last for up to a month in your fridge.... you're welcome! 😊

My husband is 38 and I am 74 and have 2 step-children and 3 more children. 4 girls and 1 boy also 5 grandchildren. So anxious to see you as fathers. Happy to provide advice along the way. I have also built my own house long ago and renovated a house for friends on a lake in Iowa several years ago. This is another reason I enjoy the show. It is great to see your parents so involved. Be safe and I look forward to the next episode.

Hard to tell from the picture on the packet. If it is Rocket, it's so called because it takes off if it isnt kept watered in hot conditions. A fairly upright salad vege with a peppery taste. Lovely to add variety & bite to salads, good idea to plant it in stages so you have it throughout summer. Those pesky little round seeds that catch on everything - we call biddy bids. Another wonderful vlog, the highlight of Saturday mornings!❤

Hi guys! I just found your videos today, 7/7/2024, and I’m really enjoying them! Is there a video that tells all about you two? I’d like to start from the beginning and watch them all. I met my now husband at the end of 2022. When we first met, I lived in the big city while he is semi retired and lived on a farm about 161 km away. I have since moved to the farm, big change for me, and we are moving forward with our married life. I’m telling you this as I can somewhat relate to your farm life. I look forward to watching more of your videos!

When planting a garden I plant in three stages -- about 2 - 3 weeks apart. This means that you don't suddenly end up with 30 bunches of lettuce all at once. By spacing the planting season you also have a chance to avoid total crop failure from a late frost or some type of insect/rodent. Be sure to use a natural fertilizer in the fall for the following year and rotate your garden. Never plant the same thing in the same spot two years in a row. If you have the room create a second garden and then rotate their use from year-to-year. This allows the soil to recover. The seeds look like arugula, which is a delicious peppery leaf that is great in salads and even better on sandwiches. ps: I'm sure you already know this but don't forget to compost. Use cooked starchy potato water for your plants and finely ground egg shells add calcium to the soil. Cheers, guys.

Guys, never finish your bathroom and you'll always have content! Glad your baby and her surrogate are doing well. Your joyous homecoming with an an immediate side trip to the hardware store looked like a page lifted from my own epic romance. Ahh, the sweetest moments of married life are seldom immortalized with any accuracy. Leave it to Bram to adore a green for which there is no translation. If he starts building a tower and growing his hair, we'll all know its rampion and he's got Rapunzle delusions. Does he hum a lot of songs from "Tangled" when nobody's looking, by any chance?

Another suggestion on your "mystery" vegetable - Mizuna grows well in spring and fall and can be eaten raw when the leaves are still young and tender. Mizuna is a type of turnip tops (or raapstelen in Dutch), tastes mild and is one of the least spicy asian greens we grow. We sometimes bunch mizuna but you can also find it in your box bagged. Sometimes we'll add it to a salad mix. When mizuna starts to bolt, pretty yellow flowers appear. We sometimes add a last bunch of flowering mizuna to the box as the flowers are perfectly edible. Do check for tougher parts of the stem and discard those.
@vangaze6 ай бұрын
Wow. That comes really close. A dutch website states: "Mizuna, the Asian 'raapstelen'." So thats not the dutch version but it's very similar! Thanks for this! Haha we were searching for so long but I guess this comes closest!

8:13 Google says Raapstelen is Turnip greens. Does Bram eat the leaves or the root, or both? I don't think I've knowingly ever tried them. I especially like kale when it sprouts in the spring. I saw lumps of white in the soil, is that chalk or building debris?

Thanks! Yeah but turnip greens aren't the exact same. with raapstelen we eet mainly the stems (the leaves are small). And we eat them almost raw mixed with mashed potatoes haha. Kale is very good too! The ground is full of chalk and rocks. It's terrible for building and gardening. Have a great day!

When you guys recorded on the roof I noticed that there wasn't flashing on anything. Around chimneys, at the edges and peak of the roof there should be some sort of flashing. On very old houses they used to use "dead soft" lead that eventually corrodes away. New galvanized sheet metal is cheap and easy to install. It is important to have around a chimney, it "moves" differently than the rest of the roof because of its mass and just using sealant always results in leaks. You don't want to let leaks go on for too long because mold/rot can set in within the living space and that isn't healthy. And at 18:37 installing flashing is a one man job. While someone is working inside the other can be installing the flashing.
@vangaze6 ай бұрын
Thanks so much. They did it with concrete here but that's probably not working anymore. We know it's important but a lot of things are so we just keep an eye on the worst parts and hopefully can fix it fast when we get back in France after our baby is born :) Have a lovely weekend!

Getting almost as excited as you two are about the birth of your baby girl. Are your parents excited? Do they have any other children or grandchildren? Hugs from Pennsylvania.

Bram and Simon, here in the US we would call "raapstelen" would be turnip greens. The tuber grown below ground is turnip usually colored purple and white and generally can be used in soups, stews, or creamed in a side dish.

It's very similar as turnip greens but it is something different. we can't find the right translation. Mizuna is the asian version. Thanks so much!

Happy Friday! So much good news! Mother and baby doing fine. Such a miracle birth is, more so to parents who are so excited and already in love with the child. My quick search on raapstelen shows it as rapini. Which I have away thought of as a miniature broccoli, but my Dutch sites call it turnip tops which doesn’t quite match the photo. Turnip tops are stronger in flavour and less tender. What is the Latin word? I so enjoy your vlog and the sense of togetherness and love that imbues all that we see. Thank you. Good camera (safe driving 😂)

Thanks so much. We are glad mother and our daughter are doing well! Mizuna is the asion version of our raapstelen. Seeing the photos that comes pretty close to raapstelen. Have an amazing weekend!

Hi guys, yes that seems to be turnip greens Here in Argentina ( spanish language) that vegetable is called "nabo" and what is most consume of it is its root. Congrats on the good news about your daughter and for a productive week. I love how your adorable 4-legged beings supervise all the activities. Till next time.

and it amazes me that the dogs are so serious about inspecting the work. If they found a mistake, what could they do to fix it? it baffles my mind that they're interested at all.

The greens in USA are called "arugala" or "rocket" in English. We love its peppery flavor.

The 'raapstelen' are not peppery. They really are different from Rocket. Thanks so much. Take care.

It's somewhere between arugula and turnip greens. It's different from Rucola. Thanks! Have a lovely weekend.

I am so happy to see Gay men doing well and growing together. 40 years ago I was fighting for our rights as the AIDS pandemic started. Before that I grew up in the Mormon cult and the suppression/abusiveness that brought. Things didn't change fast but seeing you happy gives me hope that quality of life for LGBTQ+ people will keep getting better. In the 1970s I thought things would change faster... they didn't. I'm from Alaska and now live in PV JA Mexico.

Ah thanks so much for the kind words and the battle you have fought also for us. We are very grateful we can live this life because of the brave people like yourself who fought for our rights. I hope you can be whoever you want to be at this moment. You deserve the best life! Thanks so much for supporting us and the community. Have a lovely day.
