Our French Farmhouse Ruin Feels Like Home

We’re finally back in the south of France, settling into our farmhouse renovation once more! After unpacking the van (including a new piano!) and setting up our living room, it’s starting to feel like a real home. While we were in the Netherlands, my parents kept the renovation progress going-painting the kitchen cabinets and making the kitchen look fantastic.
We also tackled a few property projects, like installing handles on the kitchen cabinets, adding poles to mark the border for our neighbor and diving back into an overdue tree-trimming project. With gear breaking left and right, we’re keeping busy with fixes-Bram tackled the kitchen ventilation, while I handled a tire repair for our trusty mini tractor.
To round out the week, we explored one of the charming local markets in a nearby village. The sights, smells, and atmosphere remind us why we fell in love with rural France. Join us as we continue building our dream farmhouse and soaking in the beauty of our French countryside life!

I would suggest trimming out the white edges of the recessed cabinet openings with either green paint or preferably wood trim painted green.

You are making amazing progress, and I'm glad you're safely back in France with all the legal work completed. Years ago I lived in France for 2 years, but in the north (Cherbourg, le Vésinet, Rouen, Nantes, Paris 18eme). I look forward to you having guest accommodations in the years to come. I'd love to explore the south of France and take some of the rust off of my french! It's really refreshing to watch your content and I can only smile at how happy you are. The kitchen looks amazing, you made the right decision to paint the doors. You can get a puncture repair kit for cars that use an awl to enlarge the hole and then you pull a plug in. Loved seeing your lovely dogs at play and discovery of their surroundings. They look to be best of companions. Stove wood: Don't forget to collect those fence post tops you chain sawed off for another wheel barrow load of good stove wood. Good idea to have ventilation for kitchen installed to reduce humidity and cooking odors. You should continue to add more marker posts along your property lines, so that if a few fall over you can clearly identify the property line. Good fences make for good neighbors and no confusion or opportunities for misunderstandings. I would put in a few more every now and again, as I know using a sledge hammer is very demanding work and breaking up the job will be easier on the muscles. No need for a gym membership with a rural property to maintain. Have you considered planting a hedge row of Asparagus? Great for early spring food crop and lovely 3 to 4 foot high fern for remainder of growing season. Perennial, so once planted and established it will come back year after year providing organic food crop for the whole family in early spring when other veggies are not so productive.

Spray the tire with soap water to leak test. Nice door pulls. Chain saw time what fun. Good job. Nice shirt. Nice mushrooms. A big kettle of potato leek soup will help keep you warm. Carrots like sandy well drained soil. My garden is clay and I added sand and all my veggies look happier.

All my plants are inside the greenhouse for the winter, but I think that you should get hold of a book about gardening, one that I know is called 'Prachtisch tuinieren' an old book, but still good.

Vegetables really like fluffy aerated and fertile soil. Now is the good time, for example, to incorporate manure in it, so by the spring, it will decompose and make really nice soil. Also, try to avoid driving heavy machinery over the soil you wanna use for vegetable production, because it will impact it... Overall, it's nothing complicated, you just need to learn a few tricks, and soon you'll have an amazing harvest.

Als altijd weer leuke video en kan jullie zeggen dat ik er altijd naar uitkijk als de dag nadert voor een nieuwe video ! Jullie worden al aardig een paar "Boeren"met traktoren en machines, ziet er in ieder geval goed uit, en met een milde winter zal het met de groenten wellicht meevallen. Wat ik wel miste is bijvoorbeeld Boerenkool en Prei wat ideale wintergroente is om te telen, trouwens net als knoflook die het meer dan goed doet in de winter. Maar genoeg belerend geweest, kan mij voorstellen hoe fijn het is om weer thuis te zijn in Frankrijk en als ik zo de keuken zie is het een prachtige plek om te koken ! Hopenlijk blijven de banden op druk en ja een gedeukte uitlaat staat toch ook echt stoer en vintage ?? Zie jullie volgen week weer !!

Ah dankjewel! Haha het is heerlijk op zo'n boerderij een beetje rondrijden op die machines. Ja vorig jaar hadden we boerenkool maar mid november is dat echt wel een beetje te laat. de winter komt hier ook zo dus eigenlijk hadden we die twee maanden geleden moeten planten. Toen waren we een beetje te druk helaas. Het is heerlijk nu weer thuis te zijn idd. Tot volgende week. Fijne zondag.

I grow my lettuce in hanging baskets or troughs fixed to the wall ..so they are off the ground …the slugs cannot get them and they don’t get covered in soil ..just take the amount of leaves you want and they just keep producing all season

now you also can play the piano to have some good music. The tires are a little bit old - but they are fixed for the moment. The tractor really needs new tires and they may be a little expensive - the tire shop will make an offer - may be with different brands that are not so expensive. Cross your fingers that you have luck with the "old" ones!

No doubt the house will be finished in the best possible taste and very confortable for the all family. however, I would love you to describe the reaction of the locals at your arrival in a new country, new life, as a lovely gay couple withe a new born baby (and a very hard working father ...! ).
