it's a good experience to have a truck that un reliable as it makes you think about how to be prepared for that situation when you go solo. cause being a one man band you can't just jump straight into another truck generally.

I absolutely feel for you Luke, and to be stuck there for virtually most of the day. For me, its an hour short of a full day's office work. Don't know where you were stuck, but when if you could, you could either go on the A34, which runs nearly parallel to the M6 on your right heading north, or on the A49 which takes you to Warrington, and then not far to Wigan on your left. But for half an hour, you're correct, stick to it :) :) :)

One important "thing" from this was the SOS laybye. Great idea for Aus where there are great distances and patchy phone reception.. we have pull over bays (Could have many more) Sat phones/solar panels ??? would be a asset in case of accident and or breakdown. Sadly the vandals would be an issue as would the litter bugs. Jan Adelaide

I thought originally SMART motorways had refuges every half mile, it was then changed to every mile by the government as a cost saving, I could be wrong though. Take care on that road Luke. 😉
@coopa20022 жыл бұрын
It's every 500-800m for smart motorways and up to 1.5 miles on normal motorways, I wonder if it's a slight deviancy in standards there. It's important to note that the government ceased building smart motorways in Jan 2022 for the foreseeable future due to safety concerns, and will look into it again after 5 years of safety data is available.

Another breakdown, with similar symptoms. 1. Similar failure, but unrelated. 2. ECU was the victim last time, and the root cause was not diagnosed or fixed. In which case, the repairer should fix it all properly, with the only cost being sorting the root cause. If ECU failure is common on these, it is easy for the repairer to just swap it out and not do any diagnosis. The root cause could be the reason for many of the 'common' failures. 2a. ECUs generally do not fail due to outside factors, as they mostly just receive sensor inputs, and give outputs as a result. They are voltage sensitive though, so an alternator that is overcharging, or creating voltage spikes might cause issues. 2b. Poor connections with power supply or earth can cause current to seek out alternative routes, with damaging consequences. There may be more, but that is all I can think of right now.
@matthewburrows27682 жыл бұрын
Daf service is terrible in general, inspection came I mentioned there’s an intermittent engine light on. MOT comes round yeah it’s failed on an engine light. Told them about it weeks before. They’re garbage. Got a new generation Daf had it 3 days. Had to be recovered. Took 6 days!!!!

@Brian-19482 жыл бұрын
@@DialMforDavid Hi David, sorry my reply came over a little blunt. As I understand it they simply connect into the truck braking system to provide air pressure to release the brakes. The towed units brakes are then operated via the towing vehicles brake pedal.

@@Brian-1948 Hi Brian - thanks so much for that. I think the next step is to actually learn a bit about how air brakes work. When you know nothing about a topic its hard to even phrase a question clearly but I appreciate your time on that. Have a good day and thanks for the clarification.

Hell of a lot to invest to buy brand new. If the company could possibly afford it, then chop the tractor when the warranty runs out for another new one. At least then you should always be on the road, with a bit of luck. Best of luck for the rest of the week.

I used to drive a 58 plate DAF and although it was nice to drive, it was constantly in the garage, the company got rid of it. The driver the delivered the new truck (20 plate.... also spent a fair amount of time in the the garage) drove the old one back down south somewhere and ended up killing the truck completely. DAF drives nice, but spends it's life in the garage.
@brianwebb1912 жыл бұрын
Sounds more like a fault with the maintance department to me ? We have a 65 plt DAF with 1.5 millon on the clock, that would like a rest maybe , Should we have problems on the road allways call DAF AID sorted and away you go lol Whats the point of towing a vehicle home ? still have to pay for the repair, and that could be less than the tow cost, But some people like to waste money, We have two spare units parked in the yard, and its not been cost efficient to use them, cheaper to ring daf aid they are with you within 45 mins,
