You know that you are passing the Final Approach Fix whenever you intercept the glideslope while on localizer and appropriate altitude. You can also double check using your DME and matching the distance on your approach plate. GPS can be used to advise that you are over the FAF as well. Great video!

There are some ILS approaches where you intercept the glide slope slightly before the FAF. ILS 10 at LAF for example

Hey man! I saw that a few times and questioned it myself but found this note from the FAA which cleared it up. The ILS glide slope is intended to be intercepted at the published glide slope intercept altitude. This point marks the PFAF and is depicted by the ”lightning bolt” symbol on U.S. Government charts. Intercepting the glide slope at this altitude marks the beginning of the final approach segment and ensures required obstacle clearance during descent from the glide slope intercept altitude to the lowest published decision altitude for the approach.
