The Ford is now back to being 4 wheels and a board; as in the front wheels are back on the thing. I had a few hiccups along the way but nothing that couldn’t be overcome!

Good progress, you will have to change the oil filter pipes to flexible lines if your platform is rubber mounted as the steel lines that you made such a great job on won't last 5 minutes in the field.

Thanks. It’s my hobby so I have time for it. I can see if people work on tractors all day why they might not want to be so involved with them in the evenings

She's looking well, I can't wait to here a tune out of it. I have a spare power steering pump with an external v pulley if you need one. It's from a major power steering kit which I don't need due to the v8 perkins having its own pump.

Ever wondered if it was just easier to buy a fully working tractor in the first place🤔🤪. She’s coming on well, just painstaking little jobs that take for ever but she’s looking good 👍😁

Good job so far. I'd say you'd definitely need power steering on that tractor! I'd have thought there would be a manual available for the engine/combine you could consult.

Oh no, it will still be power steering, just loosing the power steering pump and try running the ps from the back end hydraulics for now.

Interesting video Tom, would it be easier to fit a electric fan and just cut the fan drive back out of the way?
@dirt_and_diesel
@dirt_and_diesel Жыл бұрын
Honestly, that was my first plan. I’d calculated that a push and a pull elec fan on either side would actually do the trick very well, but the belt still needs the loop where the fan sits for it to sit on the waterpump and alternator properly so I figured if I need to have a pulley there, may as well try and stick a fan on it. I can always go back to electric if I can’t get it to work

I have a New Holland TR87 with a 7.5l genesis engine. Its filter housing is not blanked off so changing oil is a bitch but one of those housings would work for you. The fan pulley is a lot bigger on the combine to slow down the larger fan. I wonder if the fan, pulleys, and water pump would work better for your application from a New Holland TV140.
@dirt_and_diesel
@dirt_and_diesel Жыл бұрын
You’re right it would fit. It’s just the cost of sourcing the parts and if I change the water pump I have to change the oil cooler because they just fit together on the current one. I did buy a block mounted filter housing but again, I loose the oil cooler. As it is, the filter housing, oil cooler water pump and pulley setup all weirdly mesh and work together on the yellow engine. I did go down the road of swapping it all but I’m now just trying to make what I have work. In terms of pulley, I have sourced a smaller diameter one from a JD which will be very well suited for what I’m trying to do. It’ll be in the next vid

@@dirt_and_diesel why I said use a tr87 filter housing it has that oil cooler without the remote mounted oil filter.
@dirt_and_diesel
@dirt_and_diesel Жыл бұрын
@@rustyshank912 no I understand it would *mostly* fit, but it would still have a fitment knock on effect (coolant setup for example) if the part you’re talking about was actually available to me which it isn’t. I don’t believe the TR87 was sold domestically in the UK never mind someone breaking one. Plus again, then I’d be spending money for a problem I don’t actually have. If I had unlimited budget I’d be sourcing all 70 series ancillaries as a complete bundle which were sold here and still hens teeth to get hold of. I understand on the face of it, a lot of people have suggested I use parts from XYZ to make it easier, but until someone can actually put one in my hands and/or prove there’s no additional work on my specific engine variant because of this part, none so far have proven easier than me just making what I have work. I bet if we put mine and your engine side by side, there are a ton of little differences that make it not as easy as as swapping like for like parts. That’s been my experience on this build so far

@@dirt_and_diesel did some research and supposedly a tx 62 or 63 has the same oil filter housing as my tr87 but it is your build so here are two shorter oil filters that should fit the remote housing. Wix 51768 and Fleetguard LF4056.

Should have moved the bottom radiator outlet to the other side and saved a lot of mucking around..plus mounted the oil filter on the side strap on the engine.
@dirt_and_diesel
@dirt_and_diesel Жыл бұрын
Isn’t that just mucking around in a different way? There’s the radiator drain plug and internal oil cooler inlet on that side of the radiator bottom so it wouldn’t be as straight forward as fabbing up a pipe and not risking damage to the rad. What do you mean by side strap?

I think you need an 11 degree gear for your power steering pump,think thats what the genesis engines in something like an 8770 would have from what i have read about doing that engine swap.You might get some info from a Ford New Holland parts guy if He has been around Ford tractors for a while.
@dirt_and_diesel
@dirt_and_diesel Жыл бұрын
That is interesting to know. I’ll have an ask around. From what I’ve seen on the 70 series or combines, there isn’t a PS pump that uses the timing gears so sourcing a gear to fit my pump or a pump already setup might be a tad challenging. But asking around will help
