I have an idea Vince, get the spray paint your spraying the car with and spray it into a container like a plastic paint spray top and get yourself a cheap small artists paintbrush and paint the white bits around the edges to match the car. I know, a bit more work but it will then not show up as white. We all make mistakes Vince and in retrospect think we should have done things differently, but you have done excellent work on this car far and above your initial skill levels and no need to berate yourself over a small, no, very small error. Think of all the skills you have acquired fixing this car, no need to spend any time putting yourself down over a small mistake. This car is plainly beautiful since you started work on it. I love these videos Vince. They show what a non expert can learn to do to repair faults, it's the same with your electronic fixes you have gone ahead in leaps and bounds learning new skills, for example you remove and change ic's without even thinking about it now, your skills have improved so much over the time of your videos and its the same with the Rolls Royce. One last comment when you have finished using the spray cans turn them upside down and press the button a bit of solvent and propellant will spray out and clean the tiny nozzle so it doesn't ruin the whole can next time you use it, it will unblock the tiny spray nozzle.

30:09 - "Thing is, that's the only good thing on the car". Vince always comes out with a funny quip. Also, You could probably have saved that battery by using a pulse/trickle charger for it. The battery on my wife's car failed as it hadn't been started much for months, but I got a repair/pulse charger off of Am-a-son for just over £20, and after about a day or so of trickle/pulse charging, it was repaired and back to like new. I started it the other day after a month of no use, and it turned over and started immediately. Before I 'repaired' it with the new charger, I would fully charge it and by the next day it was as flat as a pancake again, so the repair charger worked a treat.

Nice progress on the Rolls restoration :) Perhaps some soapy water on the tyre valve would reveal if that's the one causing the leak. Might be also slightly corroded rim, so the tyre wouldn't sit perfectly air tight against the rim. Nice to see new battery fixed the starting issue. My latest fix is replacing the battery inside PS3 Slim console a week ago. Luckily my console is the easier one, no need the take it completely apart, but top cover, PSU and Blu-Ray disc drive had to come off regardless. Oh and needed to find TR8 "tamper torx" bit first before I could take even the top cover off.

The correct adhesive for the rubber spats would more likely be 3M VHB double sided tape. Much easier to work with, no mess, instant bond. If you take care to work it around the shape of the part no water will get in at all. Maybe look to that instead after the car is painted. Also, chrome wheels will often get a touch of internal corrosion, especially if the car sits a bit. Might need to have the tire removed, the wheel cleaned inside, an the tire re-mounted.

As far as I am aware the MOT doesn't require a light for the gear selector, but I would replace it anyway then you can be sure it isn't something it fails for, main reason why I think that is because you wouldn't have a gear selector on a manual car, but if there is one thing that drives my OCD is seeing a light not working that should be working, and one thing I do when buying a new used car is replace all the lights on the dash, but with modern cars being led back lights then impossible to do as easily. that way I know the lights all work until I get rid of the car a few years down the line, aim to replace the car every 3-4 years type of thing. as for batteries for the car I tend to also go with the larger sized battery, mainly because of the amount of electronics in our lives, and with the old cars it was also the "heavy duty" type, mainly because it kicked the engine over a lot quicker even when the battery was running low on power ie. close to flat battery, so easier to bump start at super slow speed, ie. friends pushing up hill in the snow type of speed. but most MOT checks are obvious to those that think about the items checked which is all basically safety systems, hazards, lights, warning lights, windscreen wipers work and not damaged ie. split at the ends, windscreen is clean and clear from cracks stone chips etc in the line of view especially, windscreen washers work, and set for about eye level on the windscreen, seats are locking in position and don't move without user input, and secure, seat belts, seat belt buckles, brakes, number of handbrake clicks 4 to 8 is normal, exterior no sharp objects, no bodywork damage that can cause injury, nothing loose that can cause injury. number plates aren't cracked and readable without smear marks/septeration deformities, at a decent distance ie. more than 100 feet is what I would class as minimum. then I would book the car in for the MOT, and tyre tread depth isn't below minimum markers or close to minimum tead depth markers inside the grooves, as most else you cannot check so easily.

The car is only running on 7 cylinders. You can hear it clearly in the beginning of the video, a distinct "thudding" that is not the same for every cylinder but repeats regularly. It's been quite a while since you worked on the ignition and I don't recall if you even did valve clearance, but I would (re)visit those if I were you. Not sure about the MOT requirements for this age of car, but it might fail on emissions if you don't and obviously it's not good for an engine to have a misfire.

Minimum : so seat belts can be helped back and must be able to retract themself against the seat without someone sat in them and can have a little help to do so! DO NOT PULL AND SNACH A BELT ! that will dent and make it difficult to put on. As a tester we DO NOT yank test the belt, we tension the belt against its lock in clasp and check it can be released under tension (I have know idea why you guys think you need knives to get out of a seatbelt when your car is upside down just press the button... Try it plug your belt in kneel on the seat and pull as hard as you can on the belt and press the button...you will end up on the floor outside the car! )

@1:03 - Those little plugs in the battery - I do think that when you have a battery that is in the cabin of the vehicle that you must use a vent tube to direct the hydrogen generated (during charging operation) outside the vehicle cabin. A battery under the bonnet doesn't have the same problem. Out 08 Smart car has the battery under the passenger foot well and it has a specific vent tube for the battery. May not be the same here, but I figured I'd comment. Only certain batteries are vented in this way.
@JohnGotts10 ай бұрын
Nah, the Audi A4 has had the same under the hood battery vent for 21 years. I've often wondered if the vent in my 2008 was overkill, but connecting it up adds no time to the battery service. I would imagine that vented batteries are the norm for BMWs and Mercedes. These three makes readily copy each other.
@APSuk210 ай бұрын
Tyre losing pressure is most probably either the Schrader valve leaking because its loose in the valve stem, if you have a Schrader valve removal tool (some iFixit kits have them) then check they are all tight. Or it's leaking at the base of the valve stem between the wheel and the valve stem due to internal corrosion on the wheel where the valve stem seals to the wheel, not much you can do here without removing the tyre. They look like standard valves to me so no reason they should not have changed them, you change the valves when changing the tyres as its just not worth the hassle for how cheap they are to replace. I don't know when you had the tyres fitted if they cleaned the bead mating surfaces on the wheels and used bead sealer? Very common on such old wheels that the bead mating surfaces rust causing a leak especially on old steel wheels. Pumping up the tyres to 40 / 45 psi won't do any harm as she is standing and will help a little with flat spotting. Leaving the parking brake off is also a thing to do to prevent it sticking on with her sitting. Just chock all the wheels. The battery vents plugs that you removed, normally you only need to remove one plug and the car manufacturer provides a little drain tube that fits into the vent hole routed to the outside of the vehicle and allows any off gassing to vent externally. That pipe is probably long gone as people usually throw them away as they don't know what they are for. With the spray nozzles on the paint cans blocking up, straight after you have used a nozzle to paint invert the can and spray it for a couple of seconds. The helps to blow out some of of the paint left in the nozzle. If you have some acetone, paint thinner or brake cleaner in a pinch fill one of the can lids and let the nozzles soak. After a few minutes I take then out and blow them out with compressed air and scrub the nozzle with the brush to remove any paint. Important to keep them clean if you want a good finish. You are too kind with the shout out Vince, I look forward to seeing her pass an M.O.T and back on the road.
