In addition to the italics or lower-case letters, I guess the 2nd part of the name (species or hybrid) is the cause of error in the orchid labels.

Thank you for taking the time to explain something that not everyone is probably interested in. Is it possible to give a basic talk about what are cool growing/ warm growing orchids. You always say to buy for your environment. Maybe even a bit about high/ low light orchids too. I can't remember one from the past. Thanks!

I thoroughly enjoyed this informative video. Labelling is now clearly understood. Just to be picky though, Dendrobium discolor is spelled the American way. Goodness knows why when it’s one of our Australian native species!!

Correct. The use of 'var.' in a name is often used for species where a consistent variation is found - perhaps in a certain area?

Grex is a term often used by the RHS and the like and refers to hybrid names - so a species wouldn't have a grex.

It is annoying to look up your orchid, to be confronted with another name. Does this also mean that your care of said orchid, was wrong. Thanks for unbaffling the name.

It can mean the care is wrong. Odontoglossum are cool growers - by renaming them as Oncidium which are mainly warmer growers, the care would be wrong. I've seen Miltoniopsis still sold as Miltonia - totally different requirements.
