Nice hunt! Fingers crossed 🤞 you've picked up a double hildie

The first bay at Ravenscar was really sparse, but once I started heading around to the 2nd bay it turned into a classic Ravenscar special with lots of goodies. I'll definitely show the Hildy off when it's prepped

I like Dactylioceras (the third highest representation in my collection after Promicroceras and Hildoceras) but it's hard not to get a bit of Dac fatigue after watching lots of Yorkshire fossil videos, so it's always good to see other species being represented! :)

I can certainly understand that view. Some of the places you are more or less guaranteed dozens of dacs and not much else and sadly the hunts/videos there reflect that. Ravenscar is one of the special sites that always offer a great diversity but it's struggling with overpicking/lack of fresh falls at the minute. If you aren't yet, I would recommend checking out www.youtube.com/@fossiliferous who provides a lot more diversity through the Yorkshire sites and around the country.

@@dinoskoolyes, another channel I like, along with Shae and Aaron's, Liam's, Jurassic Fossils and a load based on the South coast. I've undoubtedly forgotten a load! I like everyone's different styles and it's always interesting to see the species mix in different localities. Proms are just as dominant down here as Dacs are up there but then it's not far to Somerset with a much more balanced mix (and some fantastic Harpos).

Tha cat looks really really nice!

It really does! I swore when I first saw it especially as the block had nothing showing. Excited to see it back from prep. Ravenscar has been churning out Cats for me recently, so I am hoping I can start better identifying them down to species level (I suspect this is another dumortieri as are most of the ones I have).

@@dinoskool I do swear on good findings, or bad splits. Luckily I do not take videos or I'd spend hours editing them out.

Yeah, it's part if the reason I don't film me splitting nodules anymore. That and I had a bad habit of hitting myself with a hammer 😅

6:08 What do you think that is? The closest I can think of that is that fat and has nodes like that is a lipoceras but the ribs are more pronounced on examples I have seen
@dinoskool9 ай бұрын
It's a Catacoeloceras sp. I'm 99% sure. It's already at prep so hopefully can show it off in all its glory in a few weeks time.

Rapidly becoming a favourite genus of mine (with Hildis of course). I've got quite a few already and Ravenscar seems to provide ~1 a trip, but I think most are dumortieri. Looking for some of the other species. andysfossils.com/2015/07/05/whats-in-a-name-catacoeloceras/

A fairly succesful trip for you.

Definitely cannot complain about it as a first trip out after my holiday. Started slowly, but turned into a good one!

Glad it picked up for you in the end with the finds. How were the ticks?
@dinoskool9 ай бұрын
Can't say I saw any ticks but it was 4-6C across the day so they were probably pretty inactive still. With the warmer weather this week (including seeing pics of an adder there), I imagine the ticks will be out in force again soon enough
