Early bird gets the first comment. Also, how did you get into fossil hunting?
@dinoskoolАй бұрын
Honestly I've been into it since I was a little kid and got my first dinosaur books. My aunt took my fossil hunting on the Dorset coast near Charmouth and I found my first fossils and was hooked. Been lucky to travel the world and fossil hunt ever since!
@awesomemccoolname7111Ай бұрын
@@dinoskool that's so cool, I'm going to try and get my daughter into it.
@dinoskoolАй бұрын
There are definitely worse hobbies! Appreciation of the outdoors, history, biology/geology, and fossils themselves can be artistic. Many kids get into fossils whilst young, but most grow out of it. My parents kindly nurtured my passion and I've been lucky to make a living out of it in academia.

Love the paltechioceras mate a nice size and rare 👌 unlucky with a couple but nevertheless some great finds Andrew 👍👍⚒️⚒️
@dinoskoolАй бұрын
I was very pleased how the Paltech came out especially as so little was exposed when I found it and I did tap it so it broke 😅 I do always enjoy the results of good fossil prep even if the fossils themselves are not always the best. It's one of the joys of the hobby! Just have to keep looking for better ones.

Is a very low tide needed to go this way? I’m thinking of going on November 22nd but low tide is only 2.6 meters
@dinoskoolАй бұрын
A very low tide isn't needed, but definitely helps. If there are onshore winds or higher seas, a tide that small could be dangerous even at low tide. You will know pretty quickly if it's safe to progress as the major cutoff is shortly after the wreck as you head north. Still plenty that can be found before getting all the way around though. A good map is here, that cutoff is the star between 9 and 10. earthwise.bgs.ac.uk/index.php/Lower_and_Middle_Jurassic_rocks_between_Robin_Hood%27s_Bay_and_Hawsker_Bottoms_-_an_excursion#/media/File:YGS_YORKROCK_FIG_18_01.jpg

@dinoskoolАй бұрын
I made a video showing the location: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lYKuqp6wpcmDqq8 Let me know if you need more details. It's arguably one of the hardest beaches to access in the area due to the hill and the path through the ferns
@tomrose8845Ай бұрын
@dinoskool thank you, that makes it easier, really good explanation 👍
@tomrose8845Ай бұрын
@dinoskool now that was a work out. I can see why it is one of the hardest beaches to get to. But absolutely beautiful all the way. Thank you for your advice, I don't think i would have got there without it.
@dinoskoolАй бұрын
Glad it helped. It's a mission at the best of times and when it's overgrown or wet it's a challenge. Add a bag of rocks and you are feeling it by the end of the climb up! Hope you got some good finds

Ey up Andrew, looks like you dropped lucky moving to the Yorkshire coast! Where you from and how long have you been interested in fossils? You've already got some stuff I'd like to find so good luck for the future and keep the content coming. Watching fossil hunting vids from Yorkshire while I drink beer and have a smoke in my garage in Nottingham is like meditation for me and keeps me dreaming of my next chance to get up there myself to try and find some! Nice one 👍
@dinoskoolАй бұрын
I've been into fossils since I was a young kid and found my first fossils on the Charmouth/Lyme Regis stretch of Dorset when I was 5 or 6. A palaeo degree and PhD later, a job eventually brought me up to Yorkshire and I've been trying to enjoy the coast whenever I can to break up the usual life! Glad you are enjoying the vids, and hope you can get out hunting in the not too distant future! I should be out again soon and am looking forward to it.

Hi mate....a great grammoceras block that, will you be able to piece it back together and prep it as one big multiblock???? That could potentially be an amazing ammonite block 👍👍⚒️⚒️
@dinoskool2 ай бұрын
I handed one of the bits off to a friend who was with me so it'll be separate Grammo blocks ultimately. It was probably a 10+kg nodule that had nothing showing on the outside and I didn't fancy hauling it out on my own 😅 That fall produced quite a few nodules that we saw, so expect there will be even more when it's washed about and after a bit more rain! Will be back at some point in the nearish future I'm sure

@dinoskool yes mate it's always a bit nice hectic when you have a newborn 😊 was the last compressor a bit underpowered??? Do you us air abrasive to????👍👍⚒️⚒️
@dinoskool2 ай бұрын
The last air compressor was turning on every 20 min or so and caused vibrations in the current shed setup I had. Bigger compressor should cut that down (as it turns on less frequently) and allows me to get the abrasive system down the line
@gottacrackemall47132 ай бұрын

I hope my little one loves fossils, but if not he'll hopefully just love the outdoors and coast all the same! The weird thing on my bag is actually a mount for my camera. I'm planning to try and film a full hunt (or at least a solid hour) rather than doing lots of short clips. It's been a bit of practice getting something that might work and the mount looks weird and draws lots of questions.
