Hey, I noticed something important in the video. When you mention 'Christians of the East returning to Kurdistan,' I believe you might be mixing things up. These people are Assyrians, not just 'Christians of the East.' I can hear them speaking in the video, and it's the language my grandfather spoke. Assyrians are the indigenous people of Iraq, with a rich history long before modern religious labels. It's important to recognize their identity and history as Assyrians, not just as Christians. Let's respect their heritage!
@janetkoster62438 күн бұрын
Well said. It's a distinction that few people even know about. There are also some Assyrian Christians living in Persia, or Iran, as I understand.

@ProudMesopotamianGirl8 күн бұрын
@@mikeriley3556 Haha, Mesopotamia (Iraq) was never an "Aryan" or "Indo-European" land. Mesopotamia was **always** a Semite land. The Kurds are Persian nomads ("Kurd" means "nomad" in Persian) from the Western region of IRAN'S mountains that crawled towards Iraq 500 years ago and settled in Assyrian villages. History never lies and Kurdish historians themselves know this. Ask yourself why did the Kurds became a majority in northern Iraq and what happened to the Assyrians, and why Assyrian villages, towns, and cities names turned from Assyrian to Kurdish, because it's not a pretty history lol. Ask yourself why do Kurdish citizens call Assyrians "nistorians" and never even use the word "Assyrian" and don't even believe Assyrians are THE natives. They feel insecure about the Assyrians because they see them as a threat. And the Kurdish militias keep ripping off and tearing Assyrian voting posters to this very day.

What is the reason that you write Iraqi Christians in the thumbnail and Christians of the East instead of Assyrian? ALL the people you are talking to are Assyrian, they are speaking Assyrian at 5:05, and the organisations and the flag you talk about and show at 3.19 are Assyrian organisations and Assyrian flags, the numbers you are stating at 4:36 are also in reference to Assyrians. At 5:41 he is speaking of Assyrians, he is saying we are indigenous people but we don't have any rights, he does not mean Christians, he clearly means Assyrian. All the people at 6:32 are Assyrians, and the Return org is mainly referencing Assyrians (if I've understood them correctly). At 6:58 he does not mean representing us as Christians, he means Assyrians. You don't mention Assyrian once in text, and only in the last seconds of the video do you give the context to who Assyrians are. Why? It's a very curious choice.
@PositiveC2619 күн бұрын
They literally mentioned Assyrian through interviews and at the end. Maybe if your people were educated enough to choose the same name and stop fighting about it, they'd call you by that name in the title. Be grateful you're getting air time in the first place 😂

I am seen in this video, and I must address the misleading narrative it promotes. The Kurdish-controlled region of Iraq is NOT a refuge for Assyrians. It is a place where we endure relentless marginalization, systemic discrimination, land theft, and a host of other injustices. The KRG actively engages in historical revisionism, neglects our archaeological sites, discriminates against us in hiring, tokenizes individuals to suppress our voices, and creates proxy groups to steal our political representation through quota seats. Even more alarming, the KRG registered and permits the operation of Hawpa. Assyrians will always continue to return to our ancestral lands-not just in the KRI, but in Baghdad, Urmia, Syria, and beyond. I refuse and reject to be part of a narrative that promotes a regime who is complicit in these atrocities against my indigenous people.

Out numbering us by population is just the result of genocides that occurred in the past, the land is so rich helped the Kurds prosperous and grow in population, at the same time we just left and never came back because we can survive anywhere we go and get along with the world.

@@jacobgates1986 No one is oppressing them omg. I've seen so many people state that we as a diaspora oppress Assyrians. Yes, some do not like Assyrians due to there religion or the support they had for SADDAM HUSSEIN. But the majority of Kurds believe Assyrians as brothers and believe they have a right to basic human rights which is ironic because Kurds in Syria, Türkiye, and Iran don't even get to have that. The "oppression" they do face however is majority of the time due to extreme islamists, who many Kurds do not claim. Literally leave Kurds out of this, this isn't a Kurdish issue its a religious one.

It would be a decent video if the very last section of the video, where you mention the context of modern day Assyrians, was in the beginning but that is the bare minimum. We deserve better representation than this. I get the attempt but none of these people are speaking from the perspective of solely being Christian, they are ALL speaking from an Assyrian point of view and experience, and that absolutely deserves and demands to be respected.
