As a homeschool mom of many years, the 4 most important things you can teach at that age are Letters, writing, sounds, and socialization. I highly recommend 'Learning Without Tears' PreK, and it is super affordable.

As a previous kindergarten teacher... I suggest leaving the little marker board in the plastic and using it that way. I think it comes clean easier & it can get wet without the board getting ruined.

I was homeschooled from 7th-12th grade I personally hated it but maybe scarlett being young will enjoy it and having any extended family around shouldn't have any problems with socializing I didn't have much socializing when I was homeschooled but I also didn't leave my house or room much

If you can’t find a desk specifically for her there are some really cute and affordable children’s table and chair sets on Amazon. I saw some right around the $30 price that do say up to five years old but I do remember you saying in a previous video that Scarlet was kind of petite or smaller so it could last her another year or two.

That is so awesome you are helping get ready for her school year. I couldn’t send my son to preschool due to COVID (not last school year, but year before), so he is needing to repeat kindergarten this year to help learn more. He missed nearly half the year due to being sick & 3 weeks from Covid exposure. I pray 🙏 he has a better year. Thank you for sharing your preschool shopping for Scarlett. It is so fun to see what others choose to help educate & help their children learn, so they are ready for kindergarten (school).

At 3 and 4 they go to pre-k my son is on his 2nd year of preschool at public school so no you can start preschool in public school at little as 2 in a half years old or 3 years old and 4 year old

Just a suggestion but if you go to school supply place they will have pre school supplies, like paper with the large lines and larger crayons for small hands. Construction paper for projects.

Just so you know it’s more expensive to buy school supplies at dollar tree. I bought a composition notebook from target for $0.55 and you get the best deals from target and Walmart one store is cheaper on one thing then the other is cheaper at the other. Even some of the flash cards and learning stuff. Right now is the best time to stock up.

Melinda, do you have a first-aid kit in your car? If not, I suggest putting one together-so much cheaper than buying a pre-packed one - for emergencies like blisters. A band-aid on her blisters would mean she could walk, and it would save your back.

May I ask what factors influenced your decision to not send Scarlett to preschool? As a preschool teacher, I can't emphasise enough the benefit of attending preschool. You can teach some things at home, but others can only be taught/learned in the context of a group setting. Some are saying Scarlett can socialise with her cousins, but that is still not the same as being with her peers. Preschool is so much more than doing worksheets while sitting at a desk. All of this is why your child's teacher spends four or more years training to be an effective preschool teacher. Will Scarlett attend any home-school group activities?

But isnt it true that some kids may not be ready for that degree of socialising until a little later? It can be a little overwhelming and if it's a large class then the teacher is not able to spend that necessary time with each student. What is the harm? And what is the urgency? I'm sure Melinda is going to explore the various options for home schooling. There are various resources (as I'm sure you are aware) for homeschoolers and there are many many kids who have benefited from it. Your tone is that she is depriving Scarlett of something. And the reason they chose to do this is not our business. Cheers. I'm sure you are a great teacher.

What’s great is that there are far more Homeschool groups now that do outings and play dates than any recent times in modern history. People are learning that they can teach their kids and socialize them just as well as a Preschool. If they have the ability and means, I’m all for it. I want to homeschool my daughter and work 3 days a week as a nurse. We have some great homeschool groups here and so many different variations of learning material. It’s an amazing time for Homeschoolers!!!

Pre school homeschooling is ok, but at some time Scarlett will need interaction with other children. That's a big part of development. Good luck and take care with your back...

I’m really disappointed you’re not sending Scarlett to in person Preschool. The most important skill for her to learn at her age is social emotional development. She needs to be with kids her own age. I taught preschool for 30 years.

We are doing homeschooling with ‘waterford upstart’ in is online and FREE. My son started this week and loves it so far. He is 4 1/2. It is only 15 minutes 5 times a week. They also have fun leaning games that he also loves to carry on and do after the lessons. Then we can do things on our own as well.

Homeschool should be for kids that are struggling with illness or if the parents travels a lot, but a young child should be at school with other kids.. It will help them with social developmental skills and being around family is ok, but a child she be able to learn from other childrens cultures and be able to enjoy learning from each other. However I do respect ur way of keeping her at home.. Make her corner area like a class room, it will make the environment feel better. Best of luck.. 🧮📓🖍✏️
