The Futur is the best and most versatile razor out there. Period. It's more efficient than the R41 and works with any blade. It's ideal for beginners. You start at 1 and work yourself up to 3 which is enough for a bbs shave. Just for fun, try it at 6 with a Feather. You're not gonna bleed to death.

I am straight razor shaver but I recently bought the Futur bc I wanted to see what the hype around this razor was all about..... aint no hype. This thing is a BEAST. Even at setting 1 Holy Stromboli this thing is freaking AGGRESSIVE. You fellas looking for a shave similar to one you would get from a SR the Futur should be considered. I have never had to be careful shaving with a saftey razor until I used this thing. Freaking AWESOME! 👍only thing I don't like is the handle grip. if you get it wet you need to dry it off. Also if you want to adjust the setting after a pass you need to hold the head with a towel bc the finish is super smooth so you can easily slip your hand cut yourself.

But when you find your blade, cream and settings combo it truly is an amazing razor, 2 years on its still like new and gives a great shave. Probably the best adjustable razor on the market. Nothing fidgety or goofy about it. And the dial does go below one. And it infinitely adjust from that point all the way to 6. I use it as a single pass razor on setting two and a half. It is a razor you must respect or it will bite you.

Hi Geo, I watched and left a comment for this the other day. You answered, too. Thanks. I've wondered about this for a while and, even though in this video you didn't shave with the shaving cream you generally say is your favorite, TOBS Sandalwood, I shaved tonight with a different brand of Sandalwood Shaving Cream, The Art of Shaving, and it bought this question up in my mind and encouraged me to ask you about it. I started wet-shaving around 4 to 5 years ago, buying an introductory beginner's package from The Art of Shaving store that used to be at a very big indoor shopping mall in San Jose, CA. After smelling the different scents of the beginner's packages, I chose the Sandalwood. I love the scent of The Art of Shaving's version of Sandalwood. I've smelled others since buying and using The Art of Shaving's Sandalwood. Others smell very, very true to the scent of Sandalwood as I got to know it when burning Sandalwood incense sticks (from India). That variety of scent is on the "perfumy" or "flowery" side, where The Art of Shaving's variety is, it seems to me, of a more woodsy nature. (I had bought a TOBS puck of Sandalwood Shaving Soap. It, too, is very faithful to the incense stick experience of Sandalwood.) I'm really not sure at all about which of the two varieties might be considered a more representative scent of Sandalwood itself. The Art of Shaving's variety is my pick, but that might be because of its having started me off on this very enjoyable and interesting hobby. Do you know other varieties of Sandalwood, besides the one you often mention as your favorite, the TOBS? I had bought a sample of the TOBS Sandalwood Shaving Cream, before buying the puck of their Sandalwood Shaving soap. Both brands of shaving cream (i.e., TOBS and AoS, by the way, work very well, leaving nothing to be desired. Do you know The Art of Shaving's Sandalwood Shaving Cream? If so, what are your thoughts on the two brands' varieties of it, please? Thank you, Geo. No rush for an answer from you, but I am very interested to hear your "read" on this subject. Take care, guy. "Talk" with you again, sooner or later. Ciao, dude.

Have had success with Aftra blades. Suggest clear finger nail polish on the torsion bars on the interior top of the razor to keep the bars (they keep the blade exposure) in place. Funny story. My uncle and I were trimming out a house. I had just bought a brand new pair of Klein’s. They were purdy. 😂. We had temp power on the house via an extension cord from the temp pole to check and make sure everything worked properly. The homeowner had picked out a fan for the back porch which had just showed up. So I put it together and was about to hang it. I told my uncle to turn the switch off. Well, for whatever reason neither one of us realized it was on a three way switch. LOL. So he turned the switch into the down position. And I trusted him. Now my brand new pair of Klein’s became pathetic pair of side cutters with a good #10 wire stripper 😂.

Excellent video Geo, always enjoy your videos and learn a lot from them. I love my Mercur Futur and I never go beyond the 2 setting. You went from 6 (most aggressive ) down to 1 ( least aggressive). Is that a preference, or is it a better technique? I was advised in the past to start with the lowest setting for the first pass, and then increase with additional passes. What's your take? The only issue I have with the Futur, and this may seem kind of nitpicky, but I find the numbers for the settings hard to read. If they had some color that might help.
