Doc and Marty are the basis of 'Rick and Morty' on Adult Swim. It's really funny. The guy who tells them 'I'm afraid you're just too darn loud' is Huey Lewis, the guy who wrote and recorded the song being played. Also, it's my understanding that they didn't know before shooting part 1, that they were going to make any sequels, but when this film became a runaway hit, parts 2 and 3 were a done deal.

Yes, in the original theatrical cut the movie just ended with them taking off into the future, but they added the "to be continued" to the home video release. As a kid at the time it felt like FOREVER between the release of the first and second films, but it was only a little over four years (and then just six months between 2 and 3).

There are a plethora of Easter Eggs in this film (took me a few viewings to see a lot of them myself), and one my wife showed me. There are sites devoted to all of them. Like: - The ledge under the clock tower in the "original" 1985 is fine. When Doc in 1955 breaks off a chunk of it, the "new" 1985 still has the broken ledge. - Twin Pines Mall in the "original" 1985 becomes "Lone Pine Mall" in the "new" 1985 since Marty took out one of the two "twin" pines when he escaped from Old Man Peabody's shotgun. - The old movie theater we see in 1955 by the town hall in the "original" 1985 was a porn theater, in the "new" 1985 it was now a church. And there are TONS more...

but there are also plot holes, mistakes and other stuff also besides the cool stuff. For instance when Marty goes back and visits town square he has to look up Doc's address in the phonebook, but he's known Doc for a long time and has been to his house many times, he should already know where his house is. Also Biff tries to rape his mom in the car at the dance, but yet when they are older they have Biff around polishing the car. Sorry they wouldn't have anything to do with Biff after that point, and definitely not have him hanging around the house.

As someone born in 1950, I remember quite well that era but by the time this movie came out, there had been many changes which had happened at such a slow pace, one didn't realize the extent to them. The people making this movie were also of that era. I love the 1955 scenes as they got every nuance perfect, the way to Marty this was a somewhat alien world, and to the people, he was alien. If I taught recent American history, I'd show the class this movie and the 1946 It's A Wonderful Life, and go through them point-by-point.

Eric Stoltz was first cast as Marty, but he didn't play well with others and wasn't giving the tone they were looking for. fired. Some of his long shots are still in the movie. 4. The flammable material set on fire with the model exercise had to have been put there on purpose. Movie magic. 5. It's always fun to see how people react to the Marty and his mom car scene. 6. George McFly/Crispin Glover didn't like that the story ended with the family being prosperous. DA🙄 7. Twin Pines Mall becomes Lone Pine Mall when Marty takes one out when he goes back to 1955. 8. The writers, Bob Gale and Bob Zemeckis, have said there are no plans for a new movie (the first was never intended to have any sequels) and they will not permit a remake in their lifetimes. I think that's a good decision - there are lots of movies that shouldn't be remade, because of how amazing and timeless the original is. Terminator, Godfather, this - dozens more I can't name at the moment! Scary thought - if this were remade now in a contemporary setting, the 1955 scenes would be moved to the mid-1990s, ten years after this movie came out. The modern scenes would involve 5G smartphones, electric vehicles etc, while the past would have dial-up internet, grunge/pop-punk, Marty would be putting earbuds in George's ears instead of headphones over them!
@jawbone78
@jawbone78 Ай бұрын
There's just no way they could improve upon or even hope to match the original cast, which to me is the biggest reason to not do a remake. If you took a 17 year old now, and put them back in 1994, I think they probably would feel a bit out of sorts for a while, but not even nearly as much as from 85 to 55. It’s common enough now for kids to say “I was born in the wrong decade,” so they might even look around, and say “Oh, hell yeah! This is awesome!” Then there’s less of a motive to return.

A skateboarder grabbing on the back of a car is called "skitching", IIRC (slang for 'skateboard hitchhiker'). I was a young adult in the mid '80s when the film came out, skaters used to to it to me all the time when I was just toodling around in town, instead of going 70mph on the Interstate. I actually didn't mind it. Slowed down my car because I didn't want to kill them. Aside as a "car guy": (SCCA member, corner marshal and actually raced for a season) Couple of my friends owned DeLoreans. One of their favorite jokes was where the car wouldn't start - those things had horrid initial build quality. The other one was "sniffing the white lines off the highway" after DeLorean got busted in a 'sting' for selling cocaine as he tried to keep the company alive. My buddies actually had Windex and paper towels in the cars when they went to car shows..people couldn't resist touching the stainless steel when the car was unattended, and at the time, that was the best thing they had to clean off the fingerprints!

I've been watching this movie since 1985 and have seen it so many times I couldn't tell you how many. The reason I should have noticed is that I had another Honda motorcycle just like it and my father gave it to me THAT SAME YEAR in 1985. Mine was a 1979 Honda XL125S. I rode it in the trails around where I lived and learned how to drive a motorcycle on it. I got my motorcycle license with it and that is what I drove to high school as a senior. 15:36 I think the reason the couple freaked out was that they saw Marty's radiation suit. The fear of nuclear war was real and so she probably thought there was radiation and wanted to get the f outta there. Red, the homeless man in 1985, was the mayor in 1955. An earlier draft of the script explained that he was caught and convicted of embezzling, extortion, etc. Another part of an earlier draft that was scrapped was the explanation of why 1985 Lorraine claimed to never have done any naughty things when she was a teenager. Remember the school cafeteria scene where Lorraine slaps Biff and says "I'm not that kind of girl", then Biff says "Maybe you are and you just don't know it yet". Apparently, in the original timeline, she was r---- (presumably by Biff) and back then if that happened, the woman was somehow to blame and she was seen as the town harlot. She was disowned by her parents and her life went downhill, sending her into the bottle. She married George because he was deemed safe. Of course, she wouldn't tell her kids about it, so she put on the "I never did those things" act. It was too dark, compared to the rest of the movie, so it was cut.

Another easter eggo I discovered recently: Being left-handed is historically frowned upon (even "sinister" itself is derived from the Latin word for left) and it has been long discouraged and scrutinized in various cultures (yes, I read up before typing this, I refuse to post false info.) George McFly can be seen using his right hand in the scenes before Marty returns to 1985, such as eating his cereal and gesturing incoversation. Then through Marty's involvement, George overcomes avoiding the use of his left hand in a situation where he had no other choice and knocks Biff out with a solid left hook. In the 'new' 1985 George can be seen closing the door with his left hand as well as taking off his sunglasses and nudging Lorraine's behind.

Without any fuss, he gets George to buy the entire stock, which shows just how easy George is to push around.

The guy who told Marty his band is too darn loud is actually Huey Lewis singer/musician who wrote and sang the song for this movie called "The Power of Love," the very song Marty's Band was starting to play. Huey Lewis and the News was a very famous band in the 1980's. The Delorean was a failed car and when we saw it in the theater, backing out of the trailer, everyone laughed their ass off. Steven Spielberg produced this, and the old couple in the car scared of Marty is an old trick of his he first used in a TV Movie in 1971 called Duel, and he later used it in another movie. At that point, Marty was never in the past. This is the first iteration of that time travel loop. If Marty had already been to the past, all the things about the current present would be how they are at the end of the movie.

Actually, they weren't planning on a part 2 or 3 ... they just ended it (originally) with a fun trip to "the future". The producers have said in interviews, if they had know what a huge smash hit the movie was going to be, and the studios would want sequels, they wouldn't have put Jennifer in the car at the end. One the the hardest parts for them to continue the story was "what do we do with Jennifer?" (I thought they handled that pretty well in the next part.)

2:25 The skateboard rolls right by a clock on the floor, on it's side, with the correct time, just before it hits the box of plutonium. It's a blink-and-you-miss-it scene. 20:40 "She was a liar, or she will be a liar." Time-Travel Tense Trouble. 24:40 Unfortunately, they don't know better than the minute. A minute time window corresponds to a mile and a half, at 88 mph. 46:00 The Bobs had no notion of a sequel, and the ending caused them considerable trouble, once it came time to write the sequel. The ending was just a joke. The delayed ripple effect catches up with Marty by 1989, which is when the second movie comes out, and we see some changes in Marty.

I don’t want to spoil anything right now, so I’ll let you watch part two as well, then I’ll show you something very cute showing what a great movie this is (hopefully you allow KZbin links in the comments). This trilogy wraps up like no other I’ve seen … but … one has to watch all three parts to get the full effect out of it. I’m sure you’re gonna love it, just keep watching and at the end you’ll understand why they call it “THE trilogy”. Looking forward to your next reaction. Salutations from Romania …

Please watch Parts 2 & 3 as BTTF really is The Greatest Trilogy EVER, and from your reactions, you are going to love them, please don't leave it too long. Spoiler alert, when you get to the end of part two it will show 'TO BE CONCLUDED', it may be best to stop it there as it shows some bits of part three, which can spoil it for some people. 🙂

I saw this movie when it was released in 1985. When Marty says the line, "You made a time machine - out of a DeLorean..." it was a big laugh line in the theater. That's because the DeLorean motors scandal was just a few years prior (the owner was caught trying to sell cocaine to keep DeLorean Motor Company from going bankrupt). So the car and it's origins were laughable. Today's audience doesn't react to that joke because the DeLorean is not famous and looked at as a classic, famous car (partly due to it's Back to the Future fame).

The ending to this that makes it open ended was meant to be a joke, but given the success they had to scramble to write another film, I've heard. Remember when Marty ran over a Pine tree in 1955 when he was escaping from Old Man Peabody? This is why. I really do hope you continue. All 3 movies are connected and part 2 does set up for part 3, in which you see a different Doc. It hit him like lightening. 😂

42:52 awesome easter egg, at the bigging of the movie the mall was named Twin Pines Mall but now after coming back it's name changed to Lone Pine Mall. If you remember when he drove the DeLorean out of the barn while Mr. Peabody was shooting at him he ran over one of the two pines with the car, hence the name chage.

@Sam & Tristan -There will never be any sequels or remakes of the BTTF movies... the creator/story writer said he refuses to do anymore. With MJF and his progression with parkinsons, he cant play the part anymore and the film crew said they wont do it without him. Trivia: - @29:30 - that swing that marty threw at biff in the cafe wasnt actually MJFs... it was a swing done by Eric Stoltz - the original actor who was supposed to play marty. they left it in the movie for some reason. - The character Biff was modelled after Donald Trump believe it or not. lol. (You will see what i mean in the sequels) - @33:54 In the car at the dance, when marty takes a swig of that booze and spits it out - it was authentic lol... The crew swapped the flask of what should have been iced tea for real booze and didnt tell him.

Such a great movie and trilogy. I really like the next one even though it seems to have mixed emotions because people find it confusing. It’s not, you just have to pay attention. People always cringe at the peeping Tom scene. But Elaine’s dad yells that another kid jumped in front of his car, proving that she knew damn well what she was doing. No way a normal boy at that age wouldn’t do the same thing. I’ve seen this and all these a bunch of times, but this is the first time that I ever noticed that when Doc asks to see the photo again. There’s a quick cut to his finger pointing to Marty’s right hand disappearing and later on stage his right hand is what they show dissolving. As far as the ending of the next one. It’s a preview showing what the third one is gonna be about but not really any more of a spoiler than other movie previews go. Totally up to you if you wish to know or not.

It’s so weird to think now that Marty only went back 30 years which if you went from today’s date would only put you back in the mid 90s which doesn’t feel like it’s that far back at all. Also the term “park” had some very specific connotations for kids back in the 50s. It did pretty much mean to sit in a car and make out, but Marty didn’t know this and used the word in a most unfortunate circumstance.

Outstanding that you observed that Marty was coming back to a new reality for his family that he knew nothing about. This is the reason the original actor cast to play Marty - Eric Stolz - didn't end up in the role. He thought he should play this as a dark comedy, if not an outright horror movie. He thought it was important to stress that Marty was coming back to a future he knew nothing about, and faced a lifetime of being considered an outcast, an imposter perhaps, even insane for not remembering anything about his life or his family's.

This is somewhat me being old, but it was interesting hearing you exclaim when you saw the note, "Oh dang! I love you!" This is something where culture has shifted, and I still find it very weird now. In a lot of TV shows and movies now, they express it like everyone meets and has sex immediately and moves in together before they will even DARE to say the words "I love you", or talk or express their feelings. It seems really crazy and backward to me how people will get that incredibly vulnerable and intimate first before getting to a point of talking and deciding if they are actually in a relationship. So for the context of 1985, that was back in "Ye Olden Dayes", when people would date and talk and say "I love you" at an earlier stage of the progression of a relationship, rather than the very last step, as it seems to be done now.
