The mall sold earlier this year for $115m to company that specializes in redevelopment. So yeah, that mall is going to be gone soon. Hopefully there will be a final night parking lot party with some fast DeLorean runs though the parking lot.

That’s crazy how much it went for but it makes sense! So sad to see it go

@@ricknineg It's the fate of so many malls. If your mall doesn't have an Apple Store or Nordstrom it's a declining mall that's headed towards closure and redevelopment. What you saw at this mall is so typical of malls on the east coast, the food court is empty, more than half the store are closed and the stores that are there are low budget locally owned junk stores or are scams like Royal Prestige. It's so sad given how popular they were in the 80s and 90s and how fast they went down hill in the early 2000s.

Photo Hut is like the little freestanding fotomats. It wasn't a camera shop, it was a film develeping and purchase drive-up kiosk. Drop off exposed film, pick up your prints later, buy replacement film and flash bulbs and such. Nice presentation, Rick! Thanks for doing this.

Thanks for the video. I was fortunate enough to have been able to hang out at the Puente Hills Mall in The City of Industry when it first opened in 1974. In it's day, it was a great place to hang out; particularly during the summer and at Christmas. From the ages of 14 to 32 I racked up 18 years of great memories. BTW, the next time you're in the area, you might like to check out the McDonald's commercial production facility down the road. Go down Azusa and over the freeway. Turn left on Gale and in a short distance, you'll see a street named Green. Turn right and follow it around and you'll see it. Anytime they showed a McDonald's in a commercial or movie, odds are it was filmed there. Of course its appearence has changed many times over the years to match whichever look McDonald's had at the time of shooting. Thanks again.

Nearly 60 years old here, and I still remember when malls were just making their big entrance into the retail world back in the '70's. Few malls back then had 2 stories. And I remember having my first "double-decker mall" experience! (That's what we called 'em back then). And I recall people saying that malls killed the small downtown Main St. shopping experience. And now, malls are experiencing the same fate because of the internet. I wonder what will be next...?? Thanks Rick. Be hopeful and Merry Christmas to you and your new bride!
@SusanDiPaolo-g6sАй бұрын
Same here. I saw "downtown" shopping die off and now the end of the "mall". I have such good memories of both.

I grew up in West Covina. 10 miles from the Puente Hills Mall, which back in the 70s and 80s, was the place to be in that area. It was never a secret mall. I was 11 when they were filming there. Many people knew of it. When the movie came out, I saw it there and then walking out to the same parking lot afterward, which became surreal. You do such an amazing job on your videos.

BTTF was such an awesome movie series. I'm sad to see the malls go. So many stores went under. And of course the malls started charging sky high rent for the stores to be there. Actually, the sign should read “Lone Pine Mall” since it was never called “Twin Pines Mall”. They should have used the name shown at the end of the movie after Marty knocked one of the pines over with the car.

Interesting video. I really enjoyed seeing the image of your hand holding the camera reflected in your sunglasses, (nice shades btw), the shadows of both of you in the landscape, with one of the shadows trying hard not to be seen by stepping fast into the first shadow, lol, and her voice in the background. The selling point? Your singing at the end! You really nailed those dah dah dahs! I have never seen this movie, so I don’t have any connection to it, but seeing the sign in the mall and that DeLorean in the parking lot was very cool.

If you really want to know what will happen to the mall, check with the local zoning commission. If the current owners have applied for renovation or demolition, the zoning commission will know.

Nothing sadder about the degradation of our societies than the loss of the magic places that once were the malls. Browsing online is all well and good but it completely lacks any humanity.

Much like malls across the country, once the anchor store is closed the mall is doomed, can't pay maintenance, insurance, utilities and property tax with minimal occupancy.
