I actually just met Christopher Lloyd at Cincinnati Comic Expo and showed him what you’re doing and he was very happy and impressed with your work. I told him you were helping to preserve this ride for generations to come and he wants you to keep up the good work and know it’s so appreciated.
@Themaxleydog Жыл бұрын
thats nice to hear thx for doing that!

@@Themaxleydog hey, you deserve it. He was happy to hear people still love the ride and that someone was working to make it accessible to those who missed out on experiencing it.

I own a few pieces of the original 80’mm omnimax film used in USH, one very iconic strip of film from the very beginning of the ride. And also the lava river. You can see each frame is arched to compensate for the massive Omnidirectional screen.

we have a good news back to the future the ride is come back soon !!!
I went on this ride right after it opened. Got terribly nauseous, but that wasn't the real problem. The motion simulator seat movements were absolutely the most Jarringly Violent I have ever experienced, and I have been on a lot of simulator rides. I think it was a dangerous ride that could easily hurt one's neck with the extreme (and I mean Extreme) right-left up-down moves. Never went on it again; most brutal simulator ride I have ever encountered.

@Makamakazi4 жыл бұрын
honestly the best rip ive seen although there is some screen tearing
@Themaxleydog4 жыл бұрын
screen tearing is an artifact thats screens produce , not digital files. Becuase the file is rendered it cannot have screen tearing , you could possibly see tearing while editing or playing the file back , but not in the file itself. basically , it doesn't have any tearing it's just on your end. Now if you were talking about frame skipping or burring , yeah it has plenty of that , there are several areas where frame blending only is used to cover up bad time warping which makes it skip a bit. but all this is kinda moot as i'm working on version 3 right now anyway.

Remix the audio from stereo to the closest surround sound format possible to what the Omnimax theaters used (I'm not certain whether it was 5.1, 7.1 or something else entirely; I wish there was more documentation on that particular feature of the ride) and this restoration would be even better!
@captianlucky3 жыл бұрын
IMAX and Omnimax screens use 5.1 surround sound and an output of 12000 watts of power.

its beautiful! I was wondering if you could add the dialogue between doc brown and biff, if you are ever considering a third remaster

@ericward20056 жыл бұрын
Themaxleydog When I try to download it to my VR player. It says this Video is "copyrighted content" so it won't let you download this video. Amazing work btw. So many great memories of this ride. You do it justice!

Great work! I've been looking for a good version of the media for this ride. Would it be okay with you if I used your version to create a motion profile to?
@Themaxleydog4 жыл бұрын
you can create a profile to any version just need to know the movement, hoever other have already created profiles for this ride and have working vr and motion sims for it. So i'd suggest connecting with one of them
@mesamarshall32024 жыл бұрын

@@mesamarshall3202 you can if you want although im redoing the ride footage so this 2.0 version will not really be the standard anymore. Not like I own the rights to the film or anything its all owned by universal
@francktalbart60156 жыл бұрын
Hi Themaxleydog, this is a really nice job. I am working on a VR version (where the whole ride is designed: the garage, etc) but also making a real simulator. Do you think you could provide the same video without the optical correction, as it is projected on a virtual curved screen? That would be awesome! Obviously, I will put your name on the soft (Occulus and Vive). Thanks!
@Themaxleydog6 жыл бұрын
I have it on a drive. You'd be far better off getting the rights access to the actual film if you are developing/distributing software for it.
@francktalbart60156 жыл бұрын
I won't distribute it ;) (or at least, only the engine), as this is just a personal hobby.
@francktalbart60155 жыл бұрын
Hi Themaxleydog, sorry to ask again, is there any chance to see the video without the optical correction ? It is such a great work, it could help the community too :) thank you again for this amazing piece!
@HarbingerAlpha5 жыл бұрын
Funny, I came here to ask a similar question as Franck. This is a brilliant restoration and those of us making VR experiences (even if they are for ourselves) have access to virtual curved screens. The version without optical correction would be amazing to play with.

a 70mm copy did exist and was sold at auction a few years ago. I think it was then cut up and individual frames were sold as memorabilia . there may be another roll somewhere but it's not public knowledge as to where

I agree...not only does The Simpsons ride give a hilarious and true to the cannon of Back to the Future reason for the sale of the Institute for Future Technology, it got Christopher Lloyd to reprise his Doc Brown Persona. It also is downright hilarious, and a very well designed motion ride.

@danielval46164 жыл бұрын
You should try AI upscaling just for the sake of it! :)
@Themaxleydog4 жыл бұрын
AI upscaling would not work with video. Only for still images. The AI will not consistently convert objects correctly between near identical frames. Meaning you'll get objects warping and flickering every single frame. I tried a few still frames and it really doesn't improve a whole lot over a general video made upscaler
@danielval46164 жыл бұрын
@@Themaxleydog gigapixel has lanuched a upscaler for videos. I have seen a few test's of it and looks like its improving the video.,, Although the footage tested had low res but decend bitrate, which the available bttfr film lack (?)
@Themaxleydog4 жыл бұрын
@@danielval4616 the bitrate is high but it's vhs , so it quite literally doesnt matter how high the bitrate can get it's only a 480i frame. the video just lacks information. the colors are crushed too , giga pixel isn't going to be able to rebuild the lost information really. I even just recently revisited the footage to see if it was possible to redo it without crushing the blacks , but there's not a lot of information and the blacks are already crushed on the tape.
@danielval46164 жыл бұрын
Btw, do you have any hope that the upcoming 4k release of bttf Will include a proper scan of the ride footage?
@Themaxleydog4 жыл бұрын
@@danielval4616 No i imagine they wont rescan it as the ride isn't a draw for many people. it costs money to scan film , money that they won't see back any more than just dumping the existing 2002 scan onto the discs
