Back To The Future The Ride closed in 2007 and there have been leaks & official releases of the queue and ride footage over the years, but never great quality. Using Topaz AI (www.topazlabs.com/topaz-video...) & 6 other sources linked below I painstakingly restored, enhanced, & upscaled the incredible Christopher Lloyd & Thomas F Wilson performances of this magical Douglas Trumbull Universal Studios theme park ride, filmed after & on the set of BTTF 2 & 3, which kind of makes it Back To The Future 4. Heavy!

@@ComputerGeek1100 Michael J. Fox was still active in Hollywood during the time this footage was filmed. He was able to hide his Parkinson's symptoms and continued working for a number of years until the disease progressed to a level that made concealing the tremors and involuntary body movements difficult to mask. Basically, Parkinson's did not impact his career until he was forced to come forward in 1998 and reveal he had it. The ride footage was filmed shortly after production on BTTF prt 3 was finished which is why the town square back lot was still dressed to be future Hill Valley. According to the BTTF ride wikipedia article Fox was asked to reprise his role as Marty McFly which would have featured him working with Doc Brown as his assistant. Fox declined. This however is an unconfirmed claim. It is likely he was unavailable due to working on either Doc Hollywood or The Hard way, both films he starred in after BTTF prt 3.

The thing that can't be replicated, well very easily at home, is the motion control ride part. While motion control rides had existed before, this was on another scale. The immersiveness of the entire experience really sold the visuals. I rode this months after it opened in 1991. I remember riding BTTF & Star Tours at DisneyLand in this same vacation, and while that was good as well, it was not like this. This felt real, while Star Tours, you knew it was pure fantasy and just a story you were being walked through. BTTF the events felt like it could exist in reality. The only way to "break" the immersivness is if you purposely moved your head to look up and behind you, then you could see all the other 24 (?) ride cars moving around. Also the queue line really played a big part, not only with the video seen here, but the props and decorations. The long wait kept you entertained plenty along the way.

I’m 43 today, having grown up throughout the 80’s and 90’s. The Back to the Future trilogy has long been one of my absolute favorite series of movies. Definitely in my top 10-15. It was even one of a handful of movies that led me to get my degree in film and video production and choose it as a career. But this ride was always one of my absolute favorites of all time. I’ve lived in the Orlando area now for 25 years, and for nearly 20 of those I used to have a Universal annual pass. I can remember both the first time I rode this ride in the 90’s, as well as when it closed. I understand that tastes change, and a whole lot of kids today might not be very into BTTF. Although now with a lot of retro interest they may be again. But I still wish the ride was around. The Simpsons ride retrofit was just…stupid and awful. I’ve never disliked the Simpsons. In fact I was super into it throughout the 90’s. But just the same I don’t think it needs its own ride. At least not one in the shell of a purpose built building for the BTTF ride. I wish BTTF The Ride could be brought back. And it could with relative ease. Just replace a few facades, props, and paint and you’re all set. I’m sure there’s slightly more to it than that, but I still wish it. Can’t tell you how many times I was on this ride in its lifetime, but it was easily dozens and dozens. If not hundreds.

It was great to see! Christopher Lloyd is an amazing actor and so is Tom Wilson. Tom in reality is absolutely nothing like in the movies. Such a great guy. Thank you very much for this and greetings from Berlin, Germany. :)

Thanks a lot for putting this together. As a longtime fan of the Back to the Future movie franchise, I always regretted that I never got to see the theme park ride before it was taken down all the way back in 2007 (WOWZA, anciemt memes). Thanks for adding another piece of missing lore. 🙂

This is amazingly restored! Very much appreciate stumbling upon this and recapturing nostalgia but also having new appreciation for what they did here. It's crazy to think how old Doc Brown seemed in the movies, when you find out Christopher Lloyd was really only 47 in 1985 haha.

This was a real treat Peri. Being from the UK, and never being fortunate enough to travel to the US, I wouldn't have gotten to see this footage and in this kind of quality. ❤ taking me back- in time!!! My family moved cross-country when I was in high school (1997) and for a treat my parents took my brother and I to Universal in California- in January. It was raining and the park was deserted so my brother and I could literally jump back into an empty line and we rode several rides ten times in a row, like ET, Jurassic Park, and this ride- which I haveng seen any footage of since that time. Thank you 😊

Since this is the first time I see this, I thought it was generated using modern technology, in this modern age (using DeepFake and AI technology), and I was surprised at how excellent it turned out, but now I read that it was actually shot in 1988 by the original actors (which makes it even better, and it's an incredible rarity). I got this video randomly in my recommendations, and it was absolutely awesome! 😀

Man this brings back happy memories of my first vist to Universal Studios in LA back in the mid 90's . I'd queue for about an hour or so, go on the ride, exit it and go straight back to the queue and do it all again. If memory serves they also had the delorean on display outside the ride as well for photo opportunities. Awwww I'm feeling so nostalgic now after seeing this video and all the memories come flooding back. Many thanks

Thank you for this, these kinds of archival process are definitely a way to preserve a part of history, and a lot of childhoods. I remember going on this ride a ton in the 90s, ah, when Universal had a FL resident and kids discount for something like 30 bucks or less

good lord, amazing work in the restoration. it all looks amazing. mind blowing, really how great it looks and i can only imagine how much work and render time it must have taken to do such an amazing job (better than most bluray restorations of older movies). funny how major motion picture companies seem to put less love and effort into restoring movies than fans always do. loved getting to finally watch this. ive been wanting to see this for most of my life. back to the future has always been my top all time favorite trilogy and likely will be until the day im dust. thanks for this!!

Douglas Trumbull was an innovator in the theme park industry, especially with works on other IMAX Ridefilm productions such as "In search of the obelisk" and "fun house express" at the Luxor and Circus-Circus's adventuredome in Las Vegas among other creations in theme parks around the world. Thanks for sharing this piece of Universal history and as Doc Brown would say: See you in the future!
