It is indeed a beautiful song. Apparently, Johnny Marr was very influenced by the Scottish folk musician Bert Jansch. If you listen to some of his work you might find some resonance with this song. Barry :)

Is this possible to play with a high g ukulele

I imagine you can play it on a high g ukulele but you won't get the same juxtaposition of the bass and treble notes.
