BASHA Dweller

Күн бұрын

Join me as I spend a hastily planned overnighter at Camp BOB. I hope to get back to the woods more often from now on, although I still plan on getting out to the mountains as my overall aim is to get out more in general rather than neglecting one over the other. That's enough rambling, I hope you enjoy the video.
If you're from the northeast of England, or even if you're not, why not join the northeast bushcraft Facebook group? Great bunch of like minded, friendly people.

We use lamps as backup when the electricity goes Shaun. I would try to find a different oil first. If kerosene is in the oil it will be more smokey. Try trimming the top of the wick also. When you light it turn it right down until it almost goes out then bring it back up slowly. You don't want the flame too high or it will be smokey too and could crack the globe although a storm lantern should be tougher. Nice video bud. Merry Christmas and a happy new year to ye!

Aye but am getting better! Had MTP stuff for a while mate just preferred DPM. MTP has grown on me now though. Yeah it's a great bit of kit. One thing I hated with the British bivvy was the struggle to get in and out, especially after a few sherberts or when waking up in the night desperately needing a piss! :) lol. Thanks for watching. Great video buddy love the intro, love your setup I need to do a bit of ground-dwelling not done that for about two years. Some great lads at B.O.B. always appreciate that I was given the chance to be part of it had some good times, just the big group wasn't my thing prefer my own thing. Solo or just a few people. But it was good of Gaz &JD 👍 looking forwardto watching more of your vids. Take care atb Garry.

Dweller completely agree bud, a small group is ok normal 3 or 4 of us. The big group once in a while but I find myself wanting an escape even if it's a few minutes, I have met some great lads at the groups Jimmy is a sound bloke. If you live fairly close to Bob you should stop by my permission sometime in just a little further down the road in Weardale.

Yeah the meets are good once in a while. Like you say, some cracking peeps. I live about 9 miles from B.O.B and had a shelter, until very recently, in the next woodline over. I spend most of time, currently anyway, in Scotland with work. Weardale is lovely though, might take you up on that offer someday. Atb Shaun

Excellent set up, I love that USA bivvi, next on my list but they are pricey for the whole system. What size is you BA basha? You have a lot of kit in that waist belt and Bergen fully covered for anything. I don't use a traditional lantern but I like the idea of them and the light they produce. Cheers for the video. Lee
@BASHADweller
@BASHADweller 5 жыл бұрын
Cheers Lee. The BASHA is roughly 2.5 metres by 2 metres, no good for hammock camping but great for everything else. It seems like a lot of kit but I like to use the mentality that what if I can never go home, what would I need. I think I like the idea of the concept rather than actually believeing that scenario would ever come to fruition, but you never know and I enjoy it so what the hell. That's the exact reason why I bought one of those lanterns, just wish I knew what was going wrong with it! :) Thanks for watching. Merry Christmas & all the best for the New Year to you and yours. Very much a case of each to their own but I stay away from webbing and camo in general. I totally get how practical webbing and pouches are but its going to draw attention so "its a no from me". I intend to be a lot more grey if and when required. Can't help you with the lamp mate, sorry.
@BASHADweller
@BASHADweller 5 жыл бұрын
I get what you're saying and totally see the logic of that point of view. My very first attempts at any sort of bug out kit was using civilian bags etc but I felt that they a. were never big enough to carry everything I thought I would need and b. did not let me compartmentalise stuff the way I wanted it, which proper bugged me. I have thought about it though and this kit will, once I take the side pouches off, fit into a large OEX duffel type bag. I would plan on transporting it in this until reaching the tree line and ditching it. Without going into too much depth, I also have plans for camo to civi change over when needed. Once I've tweaked the kit and am happy with it I'll do a video. As for the lamp mate, I think it might be because it's cheap shite! :) lol. Thanks for watching. Merry Christmas. Atb Shaun

@@BASHADweller I look forward to the vid mate, I've got a hoofing big 100L bag that I use sometimes, totally agree that the compartmentalising is crap, I use dry bags as much as I can to try and help in that regard but yeah, its less than perfect. Probably not helped by my need to pack extra stuff into spaces 'just in case'. I'm unlikely to break any speed records but I've still got a strong enough back to carry a V heavy bergen. For lighting there are so many options now, I've bought some of these, can be used in the house if you have an outage. www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01IH1N0QO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 You can get battery powered ones too but these have more 'oomph', I like the idea of the old Tilly lamps but a camping solar panel gives you options on charging power banks and rechargeable batteries. Have a good krimbo yourself Shaun, its a great time to get away.

Thanks for the link. I'll give them a whirl, especially at that ludicrously cheap price. I too like the idea of the old storm lanterns and is the sole reason for buying it really. It wouldn't be part of any bug out kit I really do like the idea of using them out on a leisurely camp though, adds to the ambience! lol. Thanks again. Atb Shaun

Yes mate full of it. I had a lot of footage that wasn't usuable due to my annoying sniffling throughout. Also the reason why I played music over the beginning. I'm getting better now but still a bit croaky. Glad you like the kit mate. The bag is an issue one which you can pick up quite cheap, it has molle attachments so you can attach what ever pouches you wish, or not, to the front. Thanks for watching. I rarely use Facebook myself Barry, but it has it's uses. I'm not a fan of those attention seekers on there posting vague stuff such as 'feeling upset' and then lapping the attention every sad sap pours over them! lol. Little rant over. Yes the belt kit does have a yoke mate, it's a new one which is very thin in comparison to the older versions. I'll show it on the next video I do using the webbing. Thanks for watching.
