Perhaps the reason you break so many trekking poles is that you are carrying an 18kg+ pack.
@BASHADweller11 ай бұрын
18kg isn't that much in the grand scene of things, I've walked a fair amount of long distance trails and it never really bothered me too much. Of course it would be easier with a lighter pack but it's not essential. All my poles have broken from me falling and my body weight breaking/ bending them. I doubt the outcome would've been any different had may bag weighed 18 or 8kg. In fact I did break one while on a day hike with a pack that weighed no more than 4kg. Walked W to E Aug 21 over 6 days. Hotels in Carlisle, Twice Brewed, Hexham and Newcastle. Only saw 1 "good luck" symbol on the wall - perhaps the most famous one near Birdoswald, but was pleased to see the youths of Newcastle still believed in the ancient power of the phallus, the biggest one we noted was spray painted on the backrest of a bench along the banks of the Tyne. Thanks for the video.

I did really enjoy this one and will walk it again someday, but I will do it W to E. If I am honest, I don't know I didn't do it that way as I live in the North East. I liked staying at the YHA at Twice Brewed, good cheap accommodation and a lovely pint of Ale Caesar, or two, in the pub. I'll be stopping there again. Knob drawing never gets old apparently, nearly 2000 years and they still appear every where! lol.

As a child I had to listen to my Grandad, who had been in the 8th Army during WWII and drove his lorry through the desert and then up through Italy, telling us almost every time he met us that "The most important piece of kit you can have in the army is your tarpaulin! You can make a shelter, cover a fox hole, gather water, make a bath ,"etc., etc., etc. It was like he was back in the room. Loved it.

@@BASHADweller I walk in a "holiday" company normally - no planning and as hotel to hotel, it makes life easier than some crossings. Already booked next year to walk the Dales Highway June 23 (Saltaire to Appleby) and thinking about doing a solo reverse C2C - I only live 6 miles or so from St Bees so I can walk back home. Top tip: You'd be better off with the basha being the right way up (central silicone seam up) so that the three webbing strips and stretcher handles remain on the underside and dry. With it mounted upside down, as in your video, not only does rainwater soak into the webbing, but it also collects inside the folded seams along outer edges too, so you end up having to carry an unnecessarily damp basha in your bergen. xx ❤
@BASHADweller2 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the feedback, but in my humble opinion there is no right way up. Everyone has their arguments for either, some say the way I have it in this video is correct as you can use the webbing to as points to pull the tarp out. I personally don’t actually take much notice to which way it is as both sides will keep you dry. As for it going away wet, that’s why it is stored in a dry bag. Thanks for watching and taking the comment. Atb Shaun

Me.... not so much. Short walk and I was blowing out my hoop while he was nashing on. On the flat is easy but as soon as you put the tall things in front of you.... different game.
