Stock voltage range for AVR is 88-144 volts. In the video the voltage range is different because you can adjust the range as low as 78 volts or as high as 150 volts.
@shyb3rt
@shyb3rt Жыл бұрын
I have this same on a cyberpower CP1000PFCLCD I bought, and I'm puzzled by this because the voltage here usually is "suppose" to be 127-128V for the single phase mains, but it will usually hover in the 131-135V range and some times also push up in the 139V... When it triggers above the 136V limit I set it will trigger the battery and run out of power even though the mains power remains at 137-139V for hours.. In the Power Panel software (CyberPower) it will show the events as how many times the battery has been triggered, but for the AVR it shows as never triggered.. So my experience is that when the input is 127-136V it will just output the same 127-136V, and then when triggering the battery it goes to 120V output. But that makes no sense - what is the functionality of the AVR if it never triggers in the range and just outputs the same voltage as the mains until the limit is triggered and then switches to battery ?

@@shyb3rt I think once the voltage exceeds the range the AVR kicks on from the battery. It rarely ever happens to me, but then again i'm not paying attention most of the time

@@SystematicHardware Thank you for the reply. Yes I don't understand this. for me, on the CyberPower, when it exceeds the range the battery will kick in and supply 120V for as long as it can last - but the AVR doesn't seem to do anything. I would think the AVR would act within the e.g. 88-136V range to regulate it to 120V, but that's not the case in my experience at least. Given I didn't have brownouts in the last week, so didn't see how it will respond with low voltage, but it did nothing to regulate down the high voltage before it passed the 136V (or whichever voltage you set), but then on battery. Most electrical equipment is rated e.g. 120V +-5% or 10%. With 137V you're passing 14% and even worse for low voltage of 88V you are down to 73% of nominal mains power.. Doesn't sound good for any electrical equipment.

@@shyb3rt I used a digital voltmeter and noticed once that the AVR symbol was on in the front LED display. For me I could see how the voltage going in was low, yet the voltage going out was a nominal 120v on the voltmeter. For me i've seen it work, but it was only once out of the two units I have, since i've had them. It was during a summer heat wave where I was running an AC unit on the same circuit as my two gaming machines.

@@SystematicHardware Interesting. Yes this is how I would expect the AVR to work, that within the given limits before going over to battery, that is would work to stabilize the voltage output. But for my CyberPower unit, at least when receiving too high voltage, it would not intervene until it was triggered to go over to battery. So the promoted AVR has now value, which is really weird.

I've had this for a few years now. The coaxial through the grounds screws in my experience almost halfs the bandwidth coming from the wall I have been told because those are already grounded outside where they were installed to the side of the house. I do use the ethernet ports to ground the modem to the computer itself tho. for some reason that doesn't effect bandwidth speed at all. From what I found those ports are actually for a fax machine. I think the company themselves say it works for whatever but are intended to ground a fax machine/printer. So, it grounds a computer to a printer. Instead of grounding a computer from the wall. The only thing your suppose to actually ground to the wall is that little screw that can be wired to the screw on the outlet itself.

I'm looking at this unit for my needs and want your opinion on which is better. This BR1500MS2 or the CyberPower 1500PFCLCD? I'm also interested in how the battery terminals connect to these units for possible upgrade in the future to LiFePO4 batteries.

It depends on what you plan to plug into it - don't know about the battery terminals. Hopefully they'll make lipo4 replacement batteries that will fit the proprietary case. Otherwise i'd just purchase a unit specifically designed for that battery chemistry so it can be properly maintained

I don't think LiFePO4 batteries would be a good option. LiFePO4 batteries need a much more complex charging. I have 28.8 KWHs of LiFePO4 for Home Solar, 9300 Watts Solar. Running for 3 years now. I wouldn't trust the charging system on any UPS for LiFePO4. I did however ditch the two 7 AH batteries for two 35 AH Sealed Lead Acids.

Thanks for this very nice review. I have a gaming PC with a 4090 GPU and i13900k. It consumes ~480 watts while playing Call of Duty / ~500 watts while playing MS FS2020. I am primarily looking for this device to protect my system, but my question is: would this UPS hold my PC running under a ~500watts scenario during 1 or 2 minutes, so I can safely shut it down? Thanks for your response.

Absolutely yes. You can get 4 minutes of run time on a 900 watt load. Under specifications on the APC website there is a calculator where you can punch in the wattage. A 500 watt load will run for 12 minutes 25 seconds on that ups unit.

I got the same thing except mine doesn't say "PRO" and it will randomly die on me while it's IDLE (thankfully). So no power out from it, won't turn back on, nothing happens until I disconnect the battery and reconnect it, which is a bit of a pain since I generally need to unplug everything and move it to do that! I called Tech support and they were quick to blame my usage on it saying my computer is using too much power etc.... it happened 3-4x now when only a few watts of power being drawn form it. So that's nonsense. Not happy with APC support. Luckily I got it from Costco so I can just return it or replace it (but hopefully the model doesn't suffer from this issue and I just end up with it again). Previously using the same equipment I had the APC 1000 model and it never died on me until the battery died maybe after 6 or 7 years of use! So my question is, if you've bene using this for a while now do you have the same issue where it just dies for no reason?

UPS units aren't made for prolonged power outages. Their batteries are made from lead acid and should not be drained more than 50% in favor of battery life. This UPS can support more than one PC, so as long as the total power draw doesn't exceed 900 watts. Your PC and Monitor will be safe as long as the source for your network connectivity has surge protection. Everything behind it including ethernet as a result is protected, so using the ethernet ports on the UPS is not necessary.

If you have two graphics cards each pulling 400 watts (plus processors, etc) then you have issues unless you set power limits. We had a lightning strike on the ethernet cable coming into the house that fried a port on the router (from inducing a little voltage into the line) though it didn't make it to the switch or computers. The ups software has to be installed and the console cable plugged into the computer from the UPS, so only one windows device

@@SystematicHardware thanks for the speedy response, correct me if i am wrong pls, ups are tecnicAlly bateries for desktops, is the windows power setting enough to do the auto force shutdown? (On batteries - perhaps on hibernate mode in x number of minutes) Then the ups cable il attach to my nas

Is it noisy when running on battery power only?
@SystematicHardware
@SystematicHardware 2 ай бұрын
Even on battery, the APC units are very quiet. It all depends on how much load is going through the unit.

The display turns off automatically. The green power light stays illuminated.

Ive been using this thing for like a month without connecting the red cable at the beginning. Did i damage the battery backup in anyway or the pc?
@SystematicHardware
@SystematicHardware Жыл бұрын
I don't think so. It sounds like you were just running it without the battery connected, so if there was a power event you'd lose power to the devices connected to it

that was like buying a car and not starting it up or using gas, no you didnt damage a thing, you just removed the wrapping and had it in storage... amazing but battery only works when power goes off... so you didnt charge your battery is all, like you didnt plug in your toaster but it still sat there unused and wouldnt have provided you with backup if power went out... but does yours stink? i bought a Lorex 3Tig six cam system, can this go on batt backup? also... THIS THING REEKS OF ACETONE OR CHEMICAL... giving me an headache, does yours smell, i just bought mine June of 2023 and second day it is just smelling like curing fiberglass or a weird chemical smell, nothing electrical or fire, just closest thing i can say is acetone or curing paint or something automotive, i checked all my car products if spilled over and froze running the fan all night up here in canada. went on google, this stink has been an issue since 2015, and schneider who makes apc ups says all they can do is exchange it.... man, hoping this wears off, did yours stink at all? my room is ten by ten and i have sore throat and headache already... is this made in china with inferior plastic or WHAT?
