Love your content and style I envy how you hit so many remote places. Great video and analysis. If you make it to the northeast of the US I'd love to see you hit some island strips.

Love you video ! I'm working on a runway in my backyard, never landed of airport yet when I fly over my house it look so narrow between the trees compare to what I'm use too. I never see somebody talking about the minimum width for landing, would like to here some opinion here...

If there are no trees on the sides, it could be as narrow as the tire tracks, we have a strip in Costa Rica like that, kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4etmZSreN6HepY

Larry, what speeds are you actually using? You have a stop setup on your Cessna 182. I have a Cessna 182P and that was the year they put a bit of a cuff on the leading edge so it's good at slower speeds. I don't think I can get it as slow as you are getting it. Is Canyon speed of 75 to 80 miles an hour and approach speed of 70 with 65 over the fence And landing 55 to 60 too fast for the average strips there? I'm not going to go into Wilson Bar. Thank you
@motoadveBackcountry182
@motoadveBackcountry182 3 ай бұрын
canyon speed yes 75 to 80mph, approach speed 55 to 50mph, touch down 48 to 52 mph
@frankrosenbloom
@frankrosenbloom 3 ай бұрын
@@motoadveBackcountry182 Okay, Thank you, I will practice that. I know that at altitude my airplane starts sounding the horn at about 55 but it really doesn't stall until about 35 mph. Now of course that's not at full loads, and the published stall speeds are at full load gross weight. A couple of flight reviews ago we tried to stall the plane and at 35 it just mushed a bit and it didn't really break until 32. That was with half tanks and two people, so it seems I have a lot of room. Without the full STOL kit I may keep it up about five knots from what you use on the approach, but I will recheck it at altitude first.

Mine has Sportsman STOL kit and VGs, which reduces the stall speed by almost 10mph, so its a big difference from a stock wing

@@motoadveBackcountry182 A friend of mine who's a very experienced back country pilot and owns a C-180 has landed my plane using an approach of 50 mph. I'm not that confident so I will stick to 60. Yes, with your sportsman and VG's you can get much slower. Thanks again Larry. Hope to see you in the backcountry someday.

This is very amazing, and your ability to fly, and at the same time to not exceed your limits is just extraordinary! How long did it take to get the 182 repaired and flying again?

@@motoadveBackcountry182 Thank you for the reply! I understand if maybe this would be something that you wouldn't want to share publicly, but if you were comfortable, it would really be interesting to see and hear how the repairs were done and what needed to be fixed. Where do you even start? Were the repairs done by a private airframe and powerplant specialist, or did Cessna themselves participate in the project? Thanks so much for all your very informative content. It's most important that you were ok after the incident, but I'm also happy to know the airplane is fine as well!
