After going on my first long solo hike, i’ve come across your channel and it’s a blessing. Thank you for all the tips and knowledge your sharing, im writing a majority of it down step by step in a notebook to keep for reference before a hike

Thanks Rob, it is amazing how many different tools we have available to us. The snow reports and Mountain Forecast are invaluable when heading to the Adirondacks. See you outside!

Can I ask what you do use for navigation?

It really depends on the location. My usual process is to create a custom map with Caltopo and then import it to Avenza Maps for use offline. I have a video on how I do that at: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZa0fYKijq-EeqM. That being said, I am using GaiaGPS more and more. I really like their basemaps and the user-friendly snapping. I am considering buying the subscription so I can have offline maps. Of course, I also recommend getting a paper map from the organization that maintains the trails. I also use a Garmin Instinct watch to track my hikes and some basic navigation. See you outside.
