I bought a copy of the orange Flextail pump with the LED light off Amazon. Brand is CAMULAND and it costs half the Flextail price. Delivered within 24 hours. It works fine. Happy with the pump and the light. And I diodn't pay the high Flextail price.

I do actually put the poles in front of myself where I am going to put my feet. The reason is because im blind (0.4% tunnel vision). Im not using them to gain balance or traction, it's mainly for tactile feedback to know where I can put my feet.

But wouldn’t this just equal out the pressure in both cans? So you could not used two of the same size cans to fill each other? Seems like something that can leave you with a bunch of half full canisters.

If you like this classic look, you might as well go for the 3fulgear Floating Cloud 2, which is exactly the same, with the same workmanship.

I disagree. I wore the Topos and right away I could feel the air gaps under the foot bed and the toe box didn't seem as wide to me as my lone peaks. I wound up going back to the lone peaks. The Topos do have a slightly elevated heal. The lone peaks definitely are zero drop.

I was gifted the instinct for Christmas. What a fantastic watch. I like how you can control your earbuds through the watch. I may be looking into the solar, around black friday, they become budget friendly. This watch is crazy durable. I turned off the heart rate monitor & turn my watch off every night. I can easliy get more than a month of battery life. I have been turned around in the Appalachian mountains, I can't wait to use the sight n go

I believe during WW2 some maps were printed on silk. This eliminated the need for water proofing, crease lines from folding etc.

One thing you didn't mention that trekking poles are handy for...snakes. Out here in the west, if you do a lot of hiking, you will encounter a rattlesnake on the trail. I've used mine a couple times to move the snake off the trail. It keeps you at a safe distance from the snake. Of course, if it is safe, step off the trail and give the snake a wide berth. But sometimes if there is a steep drop-off, you have to either move the snake or turn around. I have used my trekking pole by pushing the tip under the snake and then flipping the snake off the side of the trail. This helps hikers that follow behind you. I hate killing snakes as they help control the insect population.

Might be useful if you really need to save 1-2 minutes setting up camp to do other things while your pad inflates, but let's be real. There's other gear you can spend that $40-50 on.

The ADK is rough on trail runners for sure. Did part of the NPT last fall… I must have stubbed my toes about 20 times in my Altra Mids and I’m surprised I didn’t break a toe! My biggest beef with the Altra Lone Peaks (got them from Gear For Adventure) was the durability and the lack of a Vibram sole. Had to be very strategic on where I stepped so I didn’t slip. I just ordered a pair of Topo Trailventure 2’s for an upcoming trip and I’m hoping they’re comfortable and they outperform the Altra’s. Thanks for the review!

Upgraded? That terminology is silly. Why not both? The PLB is more powerful, and it will work. They transmit at 5 watts to the satellite systems, and they even put out a homing beacon signal. Certain mountainous areas, canyons and canopy cover may prove the subscription units useless. Yet, the 2-way messaging and the extras are nice to have for sure when they work, but I would never talk someone out of a PLB to use it when life may be on the line. Extra, yes, upgrade, not really. Save ounces somewhere else. Use both.

Thanks. Well made video. I've tried flextail pumps before, but now I'm just back to using the sack to inflate. Reasons: with my REI Helix pad I find the included inflation sack easy to use, efficient and does not add any weight or cost to my system. I also find the noise emitted by the electric pumps annoying. When I am in nature I like to enjoy the sounds of nature without being annoyed by the high-pitched hum of the pumps. Also thank you for correcting the wrong information presented by flextail of the weight of their zero pump. It's not 1.2 ounces it's 2.2 ounces! They are being very deceptive going from a non-removeable rechargable battery to a removable battery and then deducting the weight of the battery and the adaptor from the weight of the pump in their marketing information.

There is another way to get ticks off whin they bursal in the skin. Take a match and lite it and put it out while smoking put it to the rear of the tick. The tick will get out and you can kill it. I learn this in Boys Scouts and later about 25 years later I did have a tick on me. I did get a match and couple of them until I got one that smoked and he can out. No tools needed to get them out.

Can’t wait to try the straps from below. I’ve been using them the other way for at least 15 years without problems but I’m super curious. I really like using the straps and putting weight on them. Really helps with hand fatigue. For me, the poles are game changes for knee pain going down hill. I was a college rower and high school distance runner and have challenging knees - particularly with arthritis as I got into my 50s. But where I have nothing but pain without poles going down hill, I have zero pain with the poles. Zero pain. Comically, while doing the hike to Angel’s Landing at Zion last year, a guy my age’s daughter begged me to talk to her dad to convince him to use poles. He thought they were for senior citizens or non-tough guys. Anyway, I let him borrow my poles for a couple of hundred down hill yards and converted he was. I love double poling on steep uphills as you suggested. It makes climbs massively easier. Lastly, on a hike in Yosemite two weeks ago, I left my poles in the car because the hike was dead flat around a lake. About 6 miles in, the trail was completely flooded, think 3 feet deep. So we decided to scramble around the flooding. That turned into an epic climbing, boulder and log scramble through dense brush for 2-3 miles. And, of course, I wrenched my knee slipping on a wet boulder after climbing over a downed log. Result? 5-6 miles of intense pain in my right knee and I wouldn’t have fallen if had had my poles. So, I’ve since bought the 3 part collapsible poles that will always travel with me and might replace my telescopic poles. Miraculously, my knee was 100% fine the next day so we were able to hike for 6 more days. Pro tip, if you visit Yosemite, do not think of missing Sequoia National Park if only for a day trip. OMG. Amazing.

Install a Screech Owl nest box. Owls eat rodents which host ticks and feed pit vipers, Bobcats and Coyotes. Given Forestry practices there are not enough nesting cavities for Screech Owls, Saw-Whet Owls and Barn Owls. Consider a late Winter early Spring Controlled Burn. Burn when blood meal seeking pit vipers and ticks are active but Dung beetles are still dormant. A controlled burn will release nutrients to promote growth and kill ticks, rodents and pit vipers. Missouri, Illinois and Indiana forestry publications recommend burns every ten years. Prepare your land by removing fuel from near the trunk of desirable trees. A burn will help clear underbrush.
