Backpacking with kids can be hard, but is incredibly rewarding and creates opportunities for memories they will never forget! I take my oldest daughter backpacking into the Uinta Mountains and have an amazing time catching fish and unexpectedly meeting up with my friends ‪@ChristianPaulPhotography‬ and ‪@Packsalot‬

Took each of the kids on self-supported camping bike touring trips on their own bikes starting at 8. Many, trips just the two of us. Such great memories. Now they go together, and have introduced friends to bike touring. I'm moving into backpacking now, and one son enthusiastically joined me for an overnight recently and thanked me for inviting me. I told him it really was his gift to me! The best is when they get big enough to carry most of the gear...😂

Love this content! Inspiring and wholesome. I'm curious how you choose your gear for a trip when you have a lot to chose from? For example, you have a fleet of sleeping pads. Why did you choose the Exped and the then Kilos? Also, you mentioned how much you like the REI Flash so why choose the Gregory on this trip? Genuinely curious because as I buy gear, I'm buying 1 of each needed item so I only need to make the decision once but you are making the decision each trip since you have a lot to choose from. What goes into those decisions?

What a great video! This was a welcome change from the normal hiking content and it looked like your daughter loved it! I'm working on making a kids backpack now and am excited to see the upcoming load out episode. Do you think the 20 liter size was ideal?
@BackcountryExposure
@BackcountryExposure 7 ай бұрын
For a 10-14" torso, 20 liters is a good size. That's the issue with my daughter. She's got a 12" torso on a good day, and any of the 40 liter sized kids packs from REI, Osprey or Deuter are still too tall for her.
@jeffreypalmer4053

My daughter, the same age, has been asking to go with me. Unfortunately, I’m recovering from shoulder surgery right now. Any pointers outside, of smaller days, snacks, movies on your phone, and a card game? Also, what about the bathroom? How do you get them pumped up for that as most adults hate going in the woods, lol? I’m hoping I can take her in the fall. And great job dad!
@BackcountryExposure
@BackcountryExposure 7 ай бұрын
Even just getting out for some car camping is good. It's just about getting outside and being together. :) Oddly enough, my girls prefer going in the woods than a pit toilet. But we also taught them super young to go, so they are used to it. Lots of encouragement, good vibes and making them feel comfortable will be good. Also, ha ha, pants down to the knees only, otherwise they pee into their pants. ha ha
