Emergency blanket, spare set of clothes, socks, tarp, knife, extra clothes/personal care items for my daughter, mittens, hats some other stuff I can’t recall. I keep everyone’s meds in one spot so I can grab them. But you know what irritates me? My daughter cannot get 3 month Rx’s. We are always running out and she has seizures. I probably need more than one bag. I use it as my emergency bag in the car in winter and I add blankets.

That does suck. I wonder if your doctor would hook you up if you explained your need.

@@UnlikelyHiker I probably have too much in my bag. A ton of redundancy. 1 is none and 2 is 1... But I work a 3 day walk from home so I need a lot

Lots of overlap here! My emergency/car bag has lots of my backpacking gear seconds in it. Old screen part of a one person bug Agnes, old hammock tarp, MSR cookpot, fuel cubes, etc. Fun video Doug!

Yeah I didn't go into that aspect, but keeping used shoes / clothing / gear that is on its way out as go bag gear is a great way for hikers to set up without having to drop a lot more money! Thanks buddy!

Creative and thought provoking Doug. I don't prep either but I often run through scenarios in my head for fun.

Good excuse to get more gear if nothing else! :)

I have often thought camping/backpacking does overlap with preparedness and I think this community could teach preppers how to pack more lightly and efficiently. Great video. I like your 5 levels philosophy. New Sub.

Good point! Definitely overlap and even where they don't there's something to be learned by both! :) Great to have you!

Im a practical thinker and Im prepared for a level four scenario. I live in the central coast in California and the only two real disasters I have to worry about is an earthquake or maybe, MAYBE I fire but I do live in the middle of my city. My go bag just consist of documents, hygiene(+flip flops), two days clothes, and snacks. I just assume I have to evacuate to a near by hotel or at worst another city. I also “TRY” to keep my primary vehicle at 3/4 tank full. This is great video and never thought of the fact that backpackers are preppers in sense, but its true. We are prepared with the bare minimum essentials with very few luxuries to survive/enjoy camping out miles away from civilization. You’ve totally made me look at this outside box. I do love the fantasy of “zombie apocalypse” tho but don’t wish it on any civilization. A great example is the current events with Afghanistan. I won’t dive into that but thanks for another great video and to just make me want to re-evaluate my equipment. Cheers!

EXCELLENT point about gas! I think I try to keep it above 1/4 but realistically I too often let the light tell me when to get gas haha. Thanks for watching and for your comment!

I love the central coast of CA! Was just in Morro Bay and Cayucos yesterday to escape the valley heat. I think the largest disaster there at this present time is the hotel rates

First, I loved this video! If I could have given multiple thumbs up I would’ve. There is a ton of overlap and I don’t consider myself a prepper but those who look ahead are more likely to make it through an emergency and be less stressed doing so. You did a good job explaining the differences in a clear concise manner. I do use old packs that I have on hand because I have like 14 of them 🤓 but I agree with your point of blending in. I do like the modular setup too. I don’t have as many cool toys as you but I’m not far behind 😉Thanks!

I live in Alaska, we have earthquakes daily, floods, forest fires, avalanches, tsunamis, etc. You need a bag ready. I am a backpacker ,I do not hoard knives and guns but I always have water purification tabs/bleach/filters, extra batteries, various backpacks, tents, sleeping bags depending on the time of year. You would be surprised that we may have no electric for a week and its -30F out. Last month I realized I was a prepper who did not believe in any of the conspiracy theories, just common sense.

Right on. Prepping and tinfoil hats do not always go together! :)
