Hey guys, great review but I wanted to point out according to Leupold's own video on this rangefinder, it's 100% waterproof. It's not like them to make anything that isn't! I just wish their warranty was better than 2 years on these electronics. Also I think the CR2 batts are a necessity for this power rangefinder. You'd need 2 AAs to get the 3V required and consequently sacrifice size and weight while also having less battery life. Food for thought! I Really liked the video, thanks!

I found that my RX 1400i would get a false read, but I think it picked another item, so I would just click on it a couple few times. I just filled a pronghorn tag using it and all I can say is these are indispensable. Not sure I would have been successful without it. To know exactly how far the game is along with the exact capabilities of your rifle is a game changer from the past.

I purchased a Leupold RX-1400i TBR/W for $200 (November 2021). My owners manual says its waterproof and claims the typical maximum range is 1,400 yds (reflective target), 1200 yds (trees), or 950 (deer sized animals). It ranges instantly.

I've always been a fan of leupold and still love their scopes for hunting but I'm not sure I want this rangefinder. Reason is I currently have an RX-1000i that the reticle has faded out on. Leupold told me it is not covered under warranty anymore so they won't cover it but they will sell me the 1600 for $235 I believe. Thing is I can spend $65 more dollars and get the Vortex Ranger 1800 and have their lifetime warranty. I like leupold but I may be jumping ship and heading to vortex.

Pretty sure the reason all the manufacturers use the CR-2 batteries vs. AA is simply the voltage needs of a rangefinder. The CR-2 typically has about twice the voltage of a AA battery. BTW, thanks for a great video. I have to upgrade my old rangefinder and because of your video I just ordered a new RX-1600i.

You definitely can't beat the Vortex warranties which is one reason to pick the Ranger over this one. But in a side by side test, at least for initial functionality, there was really no comparison between them, the Leupold was the solid winner. For most hunters, though, either option will probably do the job. So if you're good with the capabilities of the Ranger and want durability and a rock solid warranty, I'd go with the Vortex Ranger.

@@BrendonWBrownPSA always seems to have some great deals, but since I already got mine.. 'sides, at this time it's out of stock. I was tempted by a used one on the Bay of E that was up for something like $280, but at my local Cabela's I got a nice fresh one for $270 with the mil discount. (Two thumbs up for them BTW, their discount is 10% and it applies to all vets, not just active/retired like a lot of places.) I've ranged stuff with the Leupold thru a window out to ~500 yds, and thru a screen ~1300 yds. Mine’s still working great. I found that the guys at the counter have rarely looked through many rangefinders except in the store and base their recommendations on what sells the most and anecdotes from a handful of customers. Leupold has a good warranty but if you’re worried about getting a lemon, I’d recommend getting the Vortex. Their warranty is unbeatable and lasts as long as you have the optic.

The only bad about leupold rangefinder is that the display goes dim and eventually the display disappears. They do that so that after 2 years you have to buy a new one
@wrawrer4 ай бұрын
Case: Horrible Warranty: Horrible Worked somewhat well until shortly after the warranty was up. The display began to fade from the edges inward over time, until there was only a small section of one of the crosshair arrows visible. Leupold said the displays were known to go bad over time and they simply offered a discount on a new one. Why on earth would I buy a replacement product with a known flaw that would just go bad again over time?

AA batteries wont last as long as CR2 or provide consisten power. 18635 are another solution but they are a bit larger and not needed for simple range finder unless it is a binocular with digital stabilization etc. AA is the worst solution of all. I use 2 Sigs, Kilo 800 for short ranges (0-400) yrds and Kilo 2000 for sniping 400+. Perfectly happy with both aldo K800 is a bit outdated now, K1000 may be better choice these days. I hear Leupold RX2800 is great as well, but a bit pricy.

I agree. I know many hunters will zero at 200, not sure why, but all the long range shooters I know zero at 100. What was wrong with the simple trig that other brands use to give an approximate true range.

I really like Leupold brand scopes but too bad their rangefinders only have a 2 year warranty because their electronics and all electronics regardless of brand will and do fail. They're disposable throw away electronics unless you buy Vortex, Burris, Athlon, Maven, Tract, maybe Primary Arms who have lifetime warranty on their electronics. Worst ones that are disposable throw away are SIG 5 years from date of manufacture NOT date of actual purchase might have zero or close to zero warranty left if it's already been sitting in a warehouse for 5 years before you bought it and Bushnell only one year on electronics including illuminated reticles in their scopes very few actually know about and not a lifetime warranty people think not even close and Bushnell doesn't seem to want to actually honor their warranty anyway see BBB gave Bushnell an F rating for screwing over way too many of their own customers not honoring their warranty and all the complaints that's been ongoing over the past decade Google search "Bushnell warranty complaints" and "Bushnell customer complaints" surprised they aren't already forced to shut down by now.

That's what steered me clear of it. After watching these reviews I was all set to buy a Leupold 1600i but user reviews are unanimously bad. On the other hand, the ranger 1800 has stellar reviews everywhere else I look and for ease of mind they'll last my lifetime made it the clear winner. Sadly my 3.359 billion meters are m3 meters. i.imgur.com/BQD5SN2.jpg but I do like all the features, and datalog, and color screen, and angle, height, scan, and all that jazz and also dig the decimal accuracy 10cm interval and it will take readings from as little as 2m, as most others are from +5m. but as stated cheaper-segment from 50 to a tad over 100 bucks (USD) imgur.com/a/FNnrkva testing them out head to head, as I'm fascinated by the tech, and see if I can debug the 905nm LD pulsing and perhaps elevate the wattage.
