I found Mountain Tactical has some great upgrades for Tikka rifles they have a replacement trigger spring for $10 to drop the trigger weight I got a metal magazine ,a limb saver but pad , and a one piece 20 moa rail But you are correct I wish the muzzle came threaded 300 win mag T3X super lite . There was a kid at the range today that shot a .56 MOA group at 200 yards with a t3x. There were at least three of us with semi custom rifles which cost at least 2x that couldn’t come close. Pretty impressive

New Norwegian hunter here. Your older review was what made me go a little higher in budget and go for the Tikka T3X in .308, not the superlite but a Nordic hunter adjustable version with a Hawke 56mm scope, silencer and a bipod. Here in norway its the most popular gun for hunters, so now me and the missus have same setup. The goal is to get one deer at least before the season is over. But I just like shooting so I think I'll have real fun with it anyway. Anyway, thanks for the awesome and informative videos, too many "tic-toc" videos now shooting melons av 5 yards to see them explode. I want to learn so I watch your stuff. Sometimes the terrain can trick you into having your weapon unknowingly canted. So a bubble is an added complexity, but very worth it on any scoped rifle with long leggs.

I am a newb, but I do have a bubble and I find it interesting. I keep both eyes open, one can see the bubble while I line up the shot and shoot, it seems to work really well for me. I wonder if others keep both eyes open or I am insane.

@@gruanger it’s the proper way to shoot, especially if you’re a shotgunner. I shoot competitive skeet and sporting clays. I didn’t break my first hunt straight until I realize I needed to start shooting both eyes open to pick the target up quicker. So I say keep up the good work.

got a tikka t3 for my first hunting rifle probably, 16 years ago. i have taken many animals with it and never have changed anything on it, still one of my go to rifles for hunting. shoots great, runs great and is fairly light. i would 100% recommend it to anyone and everyone if you dont have one already

Tikkas are one of the greatest out of the box rifles.I have shot quite a few Tikka rifles and they are awesome.My Tikka t3 in.223 can shoot a half inch group at 100 yards on a calm day.Their tactical rifle is a bit spendy but can really hold some of the best groupings I've ever shot and you can't beat the smooth action.

Have taken at least 20 deer with my 243 t3. Few years ago got a T3x in 6.5 creed. Both have been 100% reliable tight grouping guns that just work.

Honest question. You had 243. Why get a 6.5cm? They are so close. Tikka uses same action for short and long cartridges. .270 would be a good compliment to the 243.

​@@mikemellon80they aren't close shooting the weight bullets Tikka barrels allow. They are a 1-10, so a high BC 90 gr, or a soft point 100 is all you got. If Tikka came with a 1-8, and you might could shoot 108s , then maybe. I love my 243. It's a savage, but a 140gr .264 will drop deer a little better. In my opinion

@@Gunrunner223 I agree. But a .270 “kills deer like lightning” per David Petzal. And I agree. Since the tikka isn’t a short action I’d prefer the much faster and flatter .270 over the 6.5. The CM isn’t magic and doesn’t beat the 270 on drop till you get out well past 600 yards

A lot of the negatives are kinda addressed by going up the tikka models. Things like the stock and threaded barrels are options on the tikkas, you just have to get the correct model. My CTR has the threaded barrel and there are models with nicer stocks (walnut option too).

The Tikka is a great platform for the 280ai, especially with prefit barrel options. You will notice a significant drop in recoil and increase in long range performance over the 30-06.

Hello Jim from Northern Ontario. I have the Tikka T3X Light in 7mm-08 and the first thing I did was update the stock . The OEM Tikka stock was changed to an MDT HNT26 Carbon Fibre Chassis. What a difference that made it was unbelievable. I topped it with a Burris Veracity Scope 2-12X42 and an MDT 20 MOA Picatinny Rail and MDT Tactical Rings and MDT Flush Mount Magazine. It weighs 8 pounds and shoots like a dream. I held that rifle in my hands for 14 minutes till an 8 Pointer turned broadside so I could take a shot. No neck shots for me nope! It’s my go to rifle now and it performs flawlessly. I adjusted the trigger down as low as I could but I might treat myself to a different trigger like a Timney. Oh and I also have the Sako Hunter in .308 and the Sako Precision in 7mm REM Mag. Seems like I always grab the T3X for my go rifle for hunting though. Loved the video. Might have to try the Sig Sauer ammo if I can find it.

I have 3 Tikkas. In years to come our kids and grandkids will be talking about 'Dad's old Tikka, he took that everywhere'. Living in the Nordics, I can tell you there are only two weapons we go for. Tikka and Blaser. And bang for the buck, I would rather have 3 Tikkas than one Blaser.

@@CATACOMB_TOCI sighted in with Federal 140gr Nosler Ballistic Tip and I used that cartridge for my deer hunt. Shot a nice 8 point buck that went about 60-70 yards. I really like Noslers and if I can find them I prefer Nosler Partitions. I am going to see how my Tikka likes the Federal 140gr Barnes TSX. I’ll be at the range soon and I can let you know they perform.

@@orestwitiw213 save yourself $200+ and get either an atlasworx or yo Dave trigger spring for $5-15 instead of a timney. I had two target rifles one based on rem 700 with a timney trigger and one a tikka with a 1# atlasworx trigger spring. With the tikka I never felt handicapped by the trigger. My friend (who built the rifles) has 2 custom target rifles both with Trigger Tech trigger and while they are slightly better than the tikka trigger with a spring swap they're definitely not $200+ better. The swap takes about 5-10 min and is very easy to do yourself. Unless you really have a love of two stage triggers there is no tangible reason to spend big money on an aftermarket trigger for a tikka.

I’ve got two Tikkas. A .270 Winchester and my newest in 300 WSM. First group from the 300 is 0.55” with factory Norma TipStrike 170 grain ammo. Best group with the 270 is 0.36” with 129 grain LRX Handloads. Love the Tikka t3x!

Dad became a gunsmith after getting out of the Navy after the Korean War. He purchased 3 M1917 Enfields still packed in cosmoline. He sporterized them and one was destined to me mine. Dad took out the double-stage trigger and jeweled the bolt and magazine follower. It is so very smooth; the hand-lapped lugs are absolutely perfect and I love the cocking on the closing stroke. Dad bought a Herter's stock blank and what a beautiful rifle. Yes, it's accurate; don't know if the borrowed from England 5 grove, left hand twist rifling is responsible alone for that. I love your channel.

Spot on except for the trigger. Consensus is it’s one of the best factory triggers in existence, and I agree on my three guns. Crisp, clean, no travel. Add a $5-10 spring swap and it goes to 1-1.5 pounds no problem. Add a better recoil pad and you’re golden! Swapping stocks without needing to bed an action and spinning on prefit barrels without a gunsmith are massive bonuses. If you want to get crazy, Ti bolt handles, bolt fluting, even action machining are widely available at good prices. The gun if you’re not going custom IMO.

The best hunting sling that I have used is the Blue Force Vickers sling. The thin ones with no padding. They don't slip like nylon straps. They don't absorb water and stretch in the rain like leather does. They are super light weight. They can be used in the WW2 style shooting sling configuration if you add a buckle. They can be adjusted from single shoulder sling to a cross shoulder sling, they can also be an AR style 2-point sling with quick adjustment.

Tikkas are by far the best bang for your buck! I can shoot just as well if not better than someone with a custom built rifle. I sent my bolt out for fluting, threaded the barrel, put a bigger pineapple bolt knob on, and put a mcmillan stock on it. You would never know it's a tikka now. It shoots lights out and it looks much better and feels better than the plain jane-ness out of the box!

I have a Tikka T3 Lite, 20” barrel (earlier model than the T3x). At age 70, I got tired of the recoil from the synthetic stock, so I put a pillar bedded, Boyds laminate stock on it. It will shoot .5” to .75” at 100 consistently, when shooting 150g SST hand loads. It hangs around 1” with 165g loads but that’s me and the recoil, not the rifle. Scope is a Nikon, Black FX, 6-24x50.

I've always said, I'm a one gun guy. Ok, I have 5 rifles but.... my Tikka T3 is that one gun. Hunting, LRS, love the Tikka. I've shot others. All i have done to my tikka is stock pillars and over size titanium recoil lug. I then lightened the trigger to where it was safe consistently. I also changed bottom metal to fit aics mag and routed out the stock. Man what a long range rig. Im smashing accuracy to 1000m easily ever shot from a fluted hunting barrel and an almost stock rifle. Yes these are reloads and yes they are seated longer than ssami but hey its cheaper than any custom gun ive ever seen and just as accurate.

I have 6 Tikkas. Some semi custom (new barrels and stocks) and others fully stock. They are all amazing and shoot. My only complaint about the video is that I disagree with Jim about the trigger. A 2lb clean breaking single stage trigger can be upgraded. But it won’t be much better.

Tikka is hands down my go to rifle company. I have T3 or T3X rifles in .223, .22-250, 6.5 Creedmoor, 7mm,-08, 7mm Rem. Mag., .308 and .30-06. I just ordered a Stocky's NextGen Ultra Carbon Hunter Composite Accublock stock to put on my 6.5 Creedmoor yesterday. I don't do a lot of long range hunting, so most of my rifles wear a Leupold 2.5-8x36 scope. BTW, my favorite slings are Browning horsehair which I don't believe they make any more.

The only downside I can point to is that the stocks are smooth and don't have a great grip to them.

With a $10 trigger spring the trigger is right up there with any single stage target trigger amd even from the factory it's one of the best triggers out there and is user adjustable down to about 2-2.5 lbs which is as light as you'd want to go on a hunting rifle. Unless you're a sucker for a 2 stage trigger there is absolutely no need to modify the trigger beyind a yo dave or atlas works trigger spring which takes all of 10 mins to swap out.

The timing of this video is perfect for me. I got my T3x last year. I don’t take it out much because I can only hunt with it in neighboring states. I started to get the itch with the cool air moving in and started looking for new tikka content but not much on the tube. Then I open KZbin today and this is the first video I see. My tikka loves the sig ammo also, a little heavier; 175gr .308. Puts them in sub MOA groups all day, not much else.

The Tikka T3 Lite is the ultimate factory rifle. Nothing else touches it in that range of factory rifle or price. Actually even more expensive rifles in the 1K range. My T3 Lite with stainless fluted barre in 270Win is an absolute tack driver. Out to 350yds plus is a walk in the park.

Never been a huge fan, but a neighbor sold me a T3 for dirt cheap and its growing on me. Mine is an '06 and it shoots any ammo I've tried to the same POI, regardless of brand or bullet weight. Being a bush hunter I like to carry my rifle in hand all day though, and something about the flat bottom and tight radius corners of that stock make it the most uncomfortable gun I've carried, despite its relatively lightweight. My hands actually hurt by noon.

For my first "out west" deer rifle, On the recommendation of the guys at Canyon Sports in Martinez, CA I bought the Tikka T3 about 20 years ago. I specifically asked for it in .308 even though they recommended at least .30-06. .308 it was, and added a budget Nikon Monarch scope with reticle elevation marks to 250 yards. Out of the box with match 168 gr. Federal ammunition, sightiing it in after minor adjustment, it comfortable stitched the wholes together in 3 shot groups. Accurate and sub MOA. after a few hundred rounds of all types of ammunition, from match, to Federal, Winchester and Hornady hunting rounds, to surplus Mil 7.62, with the Federal Match ammunition it still stitches the holes together in 3 and 4 shot groups. I would buy this gun again. Replacing the recoil pad is a must however.

I’ve gotta 3 different ammo type for my tikka so far and all three shot half inch groups the first was swift scirocco 2 165gr next was a terminal accent 165gr and last was a non lead Barnes tsx 165gr and all were factory loads from federal I personally am blown away by its ability to take all the ammo I’ve thrown at it and stacks bullets on top eachother.

It loves 50-55 gr bullets and shoots .5" at 100 yds. T3x made some nice improvements over the T3. Shot a fair amount of woodchucks with my little bipod attached. I went with .223 since it was the cheapest ammo at the time and when Walmart still sold .223 ammo for $.50 a round.

i think i got a lemon. i had so many fail to feed issues, due to that plastic mag, that would get better or worse depending on how tight the action screw was torqued. but i ended up fixing that problem by dremeling out and installing bottom metal plate that converted it to AICS mags instead of those single stack plastic mags.........was very happy. you could fly with that bolt and never a fail to feed or anything. then, i saw a chassis made for tikka. :) so now its dropped in a chassis that still utilizes the AICS style mags. i love it!

I recently got into hunting and shooting. I found a Tikka T3 stainless in 270 WIN at a pawn shop. Unbeknownst to the shopkeeper the rifle had several Squibb rounds in it. I bought it for a song and tried to get it fixed. Long story short, I found a Sako 85 barrel in 270 WIN and bought it. Then a great local gunsmith married the Salk barrel to the Tikka action. Little did I know I created a ‘custom’ gun, though still having the hardware embedded in thr OEM stock. So, a stainless action and a matte black barrel on a black stock. The tug looks sweet and for me it shoots very well. By the way, it has a Super light trigger! All in at $600 for my SakkaTiko T3-85!

I have the Tikka T3X CTR it came with a threaded barrel and doesn't have fluting, therefore it's not as lite as yours. I've up-graded everything that I can while keeping the factory chassis and I'm loving it. Upgrades are But pad, Tikka vertical hand grip, Trigger spring, adj. cheek comb, Arca Rail, Monopod, bipod, 5-30x56 scope, bubble level on the scope and the barrel lug. Jim, use the fhf rifle sling! It’s well worth the money when you are hunting out west and covering a few miles a day. It’s a bit pricey ($70) but makes hiking with a rifle sooo much nicer/easier.

Love my 3 Tikka rifles. About to get a fourth. Upgrade the trigger guard and butt pad on day one. At 3-4K rounds (cartridge dependant), I get a new barrel with a threaded muzzle, upgrade the stock, flute the bolt, and cerakote the exterior metal bits.

The recoil pad on a Tikka is made for driven hunt, not laying down hammering targets, obviously you should upgrade it if you want to shoot long range with it :)

For the Safari I used Terminal Ascent by Federal (200 grain). I am hoping to be loading my own by the time I use it on my next elk or moose hunt.

I’ve owned 1 bergara wilderness terrain in 6.5 creedmoor and a cva long range hunter in a 7prc which is a bergara. They don’t hold a candle to my 3 tikkas for grouping bullets.

Also own a Bergara Ridge in 6.5 Creed @ CVA Cascade XT in 7 PRC and can routinely get Sub MOA 5 round groups in both. 6.5 Creed loves Barns LRX and the 7 PRC does well with the standard Hornady stuff which is basically the only thing that’s available where I’m at.

Tikka is probably the most popular rifle here in Sweden. I own 2 tikka both of them have German Niggeloh slings super comfortable quiet and good grip on the shoulder. I think it is the best sling you can put on a hunting rifle.

I have had the opposite experience with my Tikka T3X Veil Wideland. I really liked all the features and looks of it. Also, so many people love their Tikka's accuracy. So I got two, one in 308 and one in 30-06. The first thing I noticed is that the chambers are so tight it goes from being a buttery smooth action when empty to being a difficult to close action when ammo is loaded. When I shot the 308 I would consistently get two rounds touching or close to it, and one round 1.5" away. I think, maybe it's the ammo or the optic. Tried 8-10 different types of ammo and 4 scopes, same story for all with varying degrees of spread on the two rounds that land near each other. So I think, maybe it's me, maybe I've developed a flinch. Mount one of the scopes on an incredibly cheap ruger american, use the same ammo, 3 rounds touching. It may be the barrel heating up and touching the touch point tikka puts in the stock on the T3X. Next step is trying a different stock. But it's pretty insane to pay about $1,400 for a gun and then go through many hundreds of dollars of ammo, multiple scopes, and then need to try and buy a new stock (cheap decent quality stocks being bare minimum $300+). The chambers being so tight is ridiculous as well. I have read that they do this to try and get better accuracy. I have also found a decent number of people who have the same problems with their Tikkas on hunting and shooting forums.

Make sure it’s completely free-floated, if the stock touches the barrel you can get some shots that are off. If the stock is touching the barrel, get some sandpaper and sand it down.

I just bought at T3x CTR in 6,5cmr (new). Im having an issue with inconsistent groups. Usually one or two rounds go down and left for 2" for no obvious reason. Yesterday shot a group of 3 and it was under half inch group. Next group was 2 shots touching and one 2" down. 🤷🏼 Have to start checking out whats the problem.

@@Esarix Yes, I have seen people talk about this same thing on many forums. I have also ran into quite a few people at the ranges that say the same things. I actually just ran into a guy at the range two days ago that said the same thing about his Tikka. If you do an online search you will see people talking about it on Reddit and just about every popular firearm forum there is. Often other people who love their Tikka and haven't experienced it act like the people having the problem are crazy, dumb, or inexperienced. I have experienced it personally as well. Another common thing I have experienced and seen discussed is the tight chamber issue. Allegedly that is to increase accuracy, but it basically juuuuuuust barely closes on a go gauge with quite a bit of force and it will make the action feel quite hard to close on factory ammo while the bolt is locking up into battery.

For a sling, im prone to the military strap. You can use it to brace into your shoulder for off hand shooting. They are also fairly cheap

The final blow for me not buying one was no short action for the 6.5PRC. In short I got the Bergara B14 Crest. I love the fact that you can re-barrel the Tikkas by yourself. That saves at least $600 on getting a new barrel.

@@Canberrahunters The Bergara crest with the Carbon stock is fantastic. I wanted a 20" barrel for a suppressor. I hand load with RL 26 and got the speeds up to 2870 with 143gr Eld x. I am getting under 2" groups out to 700 yards. If you ever think you might re barrel a rifle, Tikka all the way. Up grade the stock and thread the barrel if needed. If you won't shoot 1500 rounds, the Bergara, Browning Hell's Canyon, or a Savage on the low end. I would stay with 26 tube. The 7PRC is good with 24 and will shoot heavier bullets better. Good luck

Switched to Tikka about 10 years ago after having to mess with Rem, Savage and Ruger just to get them feeling nice and consistent. Hard to go past Tikka when recommending a new shooter to a rifle and the budget upgrades like trigger springs are easy to install.

I put a custom Boyd stock on mine with a cheek riser to accommodate multiple family members, got the barrel threaded to add a Silencerco hybrid, and put a Hawke Vantage 30 on it to send those subsonic 6.5 cr bullets flying downrange for an extremely effective 350-400 yard rifle. Can go supersonic to get more reach if needed. Love my Tikka. Just dont get to use it much here in MD.

I just bought a Tikka Tac A1 in 223, it’s accurate, trigger is amazing if you tune it down from factory, the bolt is super smooth! magazine is flawless, stock is perfect, what else do you need! I live in Iceland that’s why I have 223, 6.5 creedmore is a little overdo for what I hunt here, and ammo expensive here in Iceland right now.

I’ve used a lot of slings and for the most part they’re all pretty good. But then I was introduced to the Paracord sling. And what a difference it made not to mention if there’s ever an emergency, you would have the Paracord to set up a tent or to do something else with. I have a t3x 270 win lite veil that is threaded with a break. shoots hand loads 3/4 inch groups. like you described great rifless. the ruger american gen 2 has been excellent, but is also a much cheaper product. I noticed the sako s20 has the same identical barrel as the tikkas. my shooting limit is 500 yards and the sako and tikkas are my go to rifles. great content!

The biggest complaint I have about the Tika is the magazine length if you reload your limited to bullets, you can use because of the magazine length, especially in magnum size calibers

There’s a lot of talk about ethical range and why shoot at 500. If the shot has been taken at 200 and it turns out it’s not clean, the animal goes 300 in a few seconds, you want to be able to get another round in it and now it’s at 500. Practice at 500 was all of a sudden a good idea

My Tikka T3x is fantastic. I put a cheek pad that had some pads to bump up the cheek to adjust comb height to align with my scope. Very cheap and very helpful modification.

There is a saying, be aware of the man with only one gun! I have one centrefire and on 22Lr rimfire. (A 16inch suppressed Tikka T1X with 2stage Timney trigger, plus same stock mods as T3X). My centrefire is a 243win T3X Tikka Aspire and like your Tikka on here, I have tricked it out. My Tikka was new Nov 2023 (My 70th birthday). It came threaded, fluted barrel and has the new composite stock material (much stiffer). I fitted a Sako set trigger. Picatinny rail on front for-end. Plus flush fit sling mounts onto the opposite side of the bolt (so it doesn't dig into my back). I use an MTNGear Backcountry Bipod. My suppressor is the 3K Centrefire Silencer by Greystone NZ. I reload my own in batches of 50. I test fire three over a chronograph, then calculate a dope drop chart which is stuck to my stock. Dope is out to 600yds, and have shot deer out to 400yds with ease.

Standard issue here in NZ. Most Tikka rifles comes factory threaded and they make a factory 16" barrel version for our market. Most people would be using a suppressor which we can purchase without any specific restrictions.
