Seb and Max provide the most extensive historical (and current) perspective regarding weightlifting. They both have a "great presence of mind" regarding the athletes and the sport of weightlifting. Thank you, Seb and Max 😁

People should never blame athletes for politics and history unless the athlete themselves brings it to the event.
@atmoodybooty Жыл бұрын
Why not? Sports are inherently political. It's the only reason they're funded - especially niche Olympic sports like Weightlifting.
@Jamie0175 Жыл бұрын
@@atmoodybooty Because you end up with something like the 1972 Munich massacre. Besides, just like with random civilians, for all you know they might share your politics.
@atmoodybooty Жыл бұрын
@@Jamie0175 The crowd is booing.. not assaulting anyone. Anything beyond that wouldn't be because politics are in sports, but because of someone's individual aggression. Sports are fun(ded) because of the pride and politics of them.
@Jamie0175 Жыл бұрын
@@atmoodybooty Collective guilt and collective blame are dangerous and imbecilic. Athletes are individual people not political soldiers or an extension of some government. Political obsessed zealots are the ones who ruin sports for everyone.
@atmoodybooty Жыл бұрын
@@Jamie0175 Olympic athletes, quite literally, are extensions of "some government." These are sports organizations that are organized, funded, and operated by government entities. If someone lifts for a country, that is because they have gone through a legal process to literally be an extension of their national governing body, with their competitive results in representation of their country, not even themselves.

So I’m new to watching weight lifting….. I’m really enjoying it…. But I think it is super strange that they sometimes slowmo zoom on the people chalking there hands after the lift has taken place haha.

When a lift is "challenged" and undergoes jury review, who is the jury? Is it the same 3 judges on the lights? Is it a different person? A group of different people? Thanks for anyone who can clarify for me.
@chocoloco3921 Жыл бұрын
There's another group of judges. Sometimes you can see them behind a desk behind the center judge
@theparadisesnare Жыл бұрын
The jury consists of completely different set of judges, they’re there if a lifter challenge the original judge’s decision. The jury will analyze the lift and can either uphold or overturn the original decision

I used to always like rooting for the gritty Armenia lifters. The atrocities committed against them literally over 100 years ago are no doubt henious, but it doesn't excuse the crowds behavior for these individual athletes trying to do their best. No more shall I root for their lifters, and my opinion of their country has been severely tarnished.

Jesus the replays are still so bad. Why would they ever zoom on the athletes face when all we care about is the entirety of the lift?
