As it currently stands, two players are tied on 9/10. Can you be the first person to achieve full marks in the quiz?

I really enjoyed this quiz. It's important to note that Michy's mountain structure is for bearing in against an ace-point game not a non-contact situation. Also, Walter Trice's structure (7,5,3) is superior to Woolsey's wedge, although in practice you're more likely to achieve a structure closer to Woolsey's. Trice's ideal structure doesn't happen in practice very often.

Yes, I added this page after the quiz but didn't want to go into too much detail to keep the video at a good length. I agree with your distinction between the Wedge and the Tower (which is a less likely structure), and glad you enjoyed the quiz.

Hey Daniel. Gratz on your new channel - keep up the good work. I have a few additional comments to your positions: 1: The greatest benefit of 2/1* 2/o is that you only get return-hit by 9 numbers (21 does not hit!). 4: In money game - where Jacoby is used - you will try to make sure that you do not allow for any jokers and just cash next time, making lifting the 7p a mistake (because of 66 evening the race). Just play something from the 8p and cash next roll. Assuming that we just can't cash next roll, a strong argument for lifting the 7p is that we are quite a lot ahead in the race. I thought about playing the fancy move 8/7 8/4 to waste time and try to force green to break the board but it is simply too inflexible. 6: Basically all moves that does not leave a blot are equal because you will cash next roll. 7: Basically all moves are equal. You will cash next roll even if you are hit you just doubles from the bar and it is a pass. 9: Same principle as before. Play either 6/4 6/1 or 5/3 5/o and cash next time.

Good point on number 1, having to play high number first. I agree many positions you would cash. I like the technical aspect of the right checker play. Thanks for watching.

@@BackgammonisBeautiful Also, the correct play on #1 blocks double-threes.

9/10 :D seems strange for cube to be centred in some of these for money

Best score yet - good job, and I agree. The choice was to keep the focus of the quiz on the bear-off technique rather than introduce cube and match score considerations.

great quiz, some very interesting concepts. One point I'd like to mention about the format of such quizzes (including the ones from Backgammon Galaxy): your level should, ideally, depend on the amount of equity lost per decision rather than on the number of correct responses; eg: getting a 8/10 losing 0.026 and 0.007 should be better than getting a 9/10 with one 0.120 blunder :)

...except that the rank doesn't actually mean anything and is just some shorthand fun. It's okay for us BG math nerds to relax and just have some shorthand fun sometimes.

7/10 ....in position1, after the correct play, did you notice that white leave only 9 shots?

4/10…I suck at bg. I have a chess elo of 1700 but I’m struggling to ‘see’ bg if I’m honest…I’ve only been playing about six weeks but I’m on to my 3rd book, have watched lots of vids and played lots of games but when I play on the xg iOS app I just commit blunder after blunder after blunder and when I play on nextgammon I just get spanked all the time…I’m not gonna give up just yet because I do enjoy it but I’m wondering if I’ll ever ‘see’ it. Great vid though, cheers.

@ Yeah thanks Dan…I might take you up on that in the future…I’m busy working my way through Backgammon Boot Camp at the moment…played 8 games this morning on nextgammon, lost the lot believe it or not…a bit deflated tbh.
