Yes, using the rear brake achieves the same thing. On 2 stroke bikes for example, you have jack all engine braking so the rear brake is more important for trail braking (and backing it in if you so desire).

@irobuppsis9 жыл бұрын
Do not try to forcefully do this - let it come natural instead. As you learn to brake later it happens by itself and that's how to do it. The fork compress harder and you can angle out when you release and go on gas at the same time (compress the damper/swing). It's a normal MX V-turn taken to the paved road.
@nickolaswinter29754 жыл бұрын
so, brake hard (back end light) shift down through the gears (lower gear helps lock up the back) lean on the inside bar, which puts you in the controlled slide, and control the slide with the clutch/throttle.......................
@Lancaster6048 жыл бұрын
Feels like this sort of maneuver would really chew up the clutch. Modulating the clutch at high speed to control power to the wheel at that speed seems.....
@AquaLoki7 жыл бұрын
You think people who do this own the bikes they ride? lol
@Ted335i7 жыл бұрын
Brian LO The clutch doesn't actually get much use doing this. I've done this off-roading on scramblers. The rear brake locks the rear wheel, if you steer the bike left then the rear will slide right while it's skidding. If you let off the rear brake then the wheel grips and so long as you were only a little bit out of line then it's easy to carry on. If you were a lot out of line then it can jerk back into line, worst case is a high side. On dirt the jerk back into line is gentler because there's less grip. It's so much harder to learn stuff like this using high grip tarmac and high grip tyres. If you want to learn sliding, backing it in, front wheel slides etc then I found off-roading to be easiest, slowest and less hurtful when falling off!
@schenebod7 жыл бұрын
than you are doing it wrong, the rear brake is not allowed to lock the rear wheel, its just for slowing it down to have the right rear wheel speed for the gear you are in at the exit of the corner! the engine braking is the thing what makes you slide , best way to do it is to bang down the gears really fast and start releasing the clutch at high revs and as you release the clutch break hard and you will feel how your back wants to go sideways and with steering and body weight but still on the front brake you can control the direction, cause its faster spinning than your front wheel.....timing is the key and no fear of letting go the clutch at high revs .......and i wouldn't recommend to do this without an anti hopping clutch ,cause your rear wheel won't slide it will start to lock if you release the clutch and thats gonna end in a crash for sure

The modern slipper clutch on many bikes has largely put an end to this.
@johndaroza83122 жыл бұрын
This is not the only way to do it. Every rider has there ways of of upseting the bike so it slides. You can be on the breaks hard front and back and down shift to a low gear upseting the bike and getting both front and rear to slide then hard on the gas out of the turn because it is a drag race to the next corner to start the proess again. The key is your breaking any one can gas on but not many can break hard.

+Joe Bloggs I was also talking a one of the pro riders at a track day, they mentioned that a lot of this stuff (backing it in, powersliding etc.) has a lot to do with ECU, not really too sure what he meant by that, but he had a race team/crew with him so probably trade secretes he isn't going to share with the general public haha
@romitmankame85489 жыл бұрын
+Joe Bloggs thanks a lot
@d1sturb3d1199 жыл бұрын
+Joe Bloggs Nothing to do with the ECU. You can back any bike into a corner. Your first explanation is spot on. Hard on thebrakes, the back get's lighter and downshifting will cause the rear to slide. Review any supermoto video. Its the same concept. Once you're comfortable with how the bike feels when it's sliding it's easy to do it. The key is not to force it. Let speed dictate how the bike reacts. Typically if you're backing it into every corner you're over riding the bike, beyond the level of traction.
@Ted335i7 жыл бұрын
Romit Mankame The hard part about backing it in isn't the initial slide. That's just looking the rear wheel and steering the front normally, the rear slides opposite to steering direction. The hard part is you're leaning over entering a corner, the rear is sliding out of line with the front, so you need to align the wheels and let the rear wheel grip without high siding. You can try rear wheel sliding and steering while upright. Just lock the back brake into a skid and steer a bit left or right and the rear will go in the other direction. This is much easier off-road. Speeds are lower, grip is easier to control, ground is softer to land on 😀

It helps wash a little more speed off if you feel your going in a little too quickly and also helps to put adjust your line if you feel your missing the apex and vice versa. Also if your up the inside of some it slows them up a little and makes for a more successful block pass
@jasoncox42345 жыл бұрын
If done right you can keep a bit more speed while keeping tighter lines in the curves. I use this on a smaller cc bike to kill the larger bikes on mountain roads with good bank. Even if I get taken in a straight, I can eat up the loss in the turns. There are times I will have to knock 2 or 3 gears down to execute a perfect back in and drift, but it dose allow me to pass other bikes on the outside and even get a win on a race. But one wrong move or bad read on road ahead will cause you to loose control. Execute such moves only after you gain experience. Keep the tires down. Stay safe.
@XenoX1014 жыл бұрын
Great except for when you tell people not to try it. Parking lots, race tracks, empty roads, all perfect, relatively safe opportunities to try this maneuver. That is after all what motorcycles are about isn't it? Learning all the ins and outs of riding.

Would'a been nice to have gotten an English speaker to explain it. For us Yanks at least. I only got about half the words. All I understood was hard on the front brake.
@mattk94385 жыл бұрын
I'll give it a shot explaining. Supermoto guys do it all the time (I'm just a learner ninja 300 rider with more skills than the guys in town on their street triples and gsxr's) They call the technique "backing it in" Try the technique in a straight line first. All it is, is really aggressive engine braking combined with light (like, light as fuck) rear braking and enough front brake (or not) to get that back wheel to lose grip. THE BACK WHEEL NEVER LOCKS UP. NEVER! mmmkay? So, go 65km/h or 40mph, then clutch in, to idle. Go down enough gears that the wheel speed doesnt match the engine speed In my Ninja 300... that's literally 1st gear. DO NOT REV MATCH THE GEAR YOU CHOOSE. If you have a slipper clutch... just let it out and at the same time, use a little bit of rear brake and some front brake. You'll feel the back tyre scrambling for grip as the engine tries it's best to slow the bike down. Slipper clutches make it easy. Otherwise you have to balance the clutch between either no tyre slip (because you dont have the clutch released enough, barely biting the flywheel) or the tyre skipping the ground (because the clutch is near fully released) It's literally using the wrong gear to make the rear wheel lose grip. The chance of you over revving the engine is minimal as long as you aren't applying any power or rev matching.
