This important piece of Nigeria's post-independence history is unequivocally and incontrovertibly well elucidated without any ambiguity by the narrator. Brilliant research!

In 1953, Enahoro became the first to move the motion for Nigeria's independence which was eventually granted in 1960, after several political setbacks and defeats in the parliament. Enahoro has been regarded by academics and many Nigerians, as the "Father of Nigeria State

Very correct. This was as I learnt in Secondary Sch. This Fani-Kayode's narrative is mostly false.

He moved the SUCCESSFUL motion for independence. Others had moved a similar motion before him but none of them was successful. Enahoro was the first. It has also been recorded that later on, SL Akintola also moved a similar motion. It was CHIEF REMI FANI KAYODE that made the last attempt that successfully resulted in independence.

Point of correction: They were Five Majors that planned the coup as the new came out on January 16, 1966 morning.
@backinhistory9
@backinhistory9 Ай бұрын
Let's run it together: 1. Major Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu 2. Major Emmanuel Ifeajuna 3. Major Christian Anuforu 4. Major Donatus Okafor 5. Major Humphrey Chukwuka 6. Major Adewale Ademoyega 7. Major Timothy Onwatuegwu You now see the names!! Note however that the Majors recruited other ranks (from Captain down) into the coup plot. This is how names like Captain Nwobosi and Captain Gbulie were brought into the plot. There were other Subalterns (lower ranks) in the coup. Grateful 🙏 that you watched our video.

@@backinhistory9 Chukwuka and Onwatuegwu's names never came up in all the books written. Besides, you neglected to mention that there are accounts that Ladoke Akintola engaged the arresting officers with gunfire that lasted until Akintola's ammo ran out. He was subsequently put down after the soldiers stormed his house. He was not arrested.

On the motion for the Nigeria’s Independence, I disagree with you. In 1953, Anthony Enahoro became the first to move the motion for Nigeria's independence which was eventually granted in 1960,

ENAHORO WAS THE FIRST TO MOVE THE MOTION FOR NIGERIA INDEPENDENCE.
@backinhistory9
@backinhistory9 26 күн бұрын
That was in 1953, but that motion did not give Nigeria the needed independence. It remains a commendable and courageous step taken by Enahoro at the time. The motion that eventually resulted in the grant of independence to Nigeria was done many years after the first attempt, and that motion was moved by SAMUEL LADOKE AKINTOLA.

Why should we not allow the wounds of the past to heal gracefully? Each time these events from the past are revisited, the ignorant and biased people of Nigeria would use it as an excuse to ferment ethno-religious crisis. Please let's leave sleeping dogs lie.

No, don't see it that way. Let the bitter truth be told, so that we can eliminate ignorance and also amend our ways by correcting past mistakes. That's the way to move forward.

That's the purpose of HISTORY. Tell me one atrocious act of the past that has not been documented by history. They've all been documented: WW1, WW2, Hiroshima, Pearl Harbour, Tienemen Square, Nigeria Biafra War, Coups etc. History has a role in society.

How does the wound heal ?. When those that destroyed Nigeria with their uncouth greediness,by kpai -ing leaders of others regions are still crying victims.Nigeria was agreed on for every regions to control /rule themselves but coup plotters wanted All power to themselves as shown by the power change.Those that kpaid others leaders were the one that took over power and destroyed the system of government. Every regions are to focus on their region and develop it not going about demonizing other regions leaders while their own leaders are non -functioning. Major Adewale wasn’t given the gun to clear Zik,Opara, Nwafor but the real coup plotters entered other regions and caused havoc leaving their own region/ leaders untouchable.
