Its time to add a permanent GPS module to this fantastic gadget! While I am in there I added a two port USB hub IC that really makes it easier to expand this functionality!
The Clockwork uConsole lends itself perfectly into making the perfect portable SDR and GPS using a simple USB hack that anyone can do. I think its cyberdeck format make it ideal for this kind of project.

Thank you for your service! I haven't received my uConsole yet but I was planning on plugging in a SDR and GPS on it. Your videos definitely inspired me to make it look more integrated. By the way, since you can 3D print, design a flap using the same hinge as the existing stand. The GPS tucks in the back when you don't need it. Flip it up when you do.

That's a fantastic idea!! A 3d modelling and 3d printing video sounds like a nice change

Thanks for the tip on that USB chip! Even if it's just USB1, it's still quite useful! :) (random thought, TRRS jack for the GPS could be an option for someone that want to be able to unplug it without having to use a USB connector)

I think it needs some sensors now, like temperature, humidity, brightness etc!

Nice update! Alex sent me a new trackball module and it’s working flawlessly. I asked him about buying a blank extension card but he said I didn’t need it… I have the 4g module 😅

With the 4g module you need slightly different hackery!

These videos are so good! I just installed an RTL-SDR v4 in my uConsole by following your last video and it's awesome. Even though I managed to rip off the solder pad for the SMA connector when trying to desolder it. Actually by coincidence I just bought one of those GPS's that you're using in this video, maybe I need to attempt another mod.

That's fantastic! I think you are talking yourself into doing this mod. Would you use that little hub PCB as well or try to patch into the second port pins on the expansion header?

Great video and information as usual! Great job. You said about other add ons you could do. What about a LoRa module for meshtastic? That's an area that screaming for a device like the uConsole!

Will be interesting to see who makes the smallest module. With that spare USB still in there, it's definitely a possibility! I'll start looking for one.

@@backofficeshowSeeed do some quite small modules, the E5 seems very popular amongst enthusiastic tinkerers like ourselves 😊

I'm very close at buying this, but i wait for the compute module 5 to come out, to get that little extra power, either that or ordering it now and hope that the cm5 has the same dimensions to cm4. what would you suggest? by the way nice tinkering! great job!

I think realistically the CM5 will have a different footprint. It's possible that clockwork will release a personality or adaptor board for it, but that's no guarantee. They might even do making the device altogether 🤷

I have a few other videos posted on this in my description above, but to save you looking, I actually ordered this well over a year ago and totally forgot about it, so I was quite surprised when it turned up. I had to check my emails to see that I actually had ordered it 🤣 So I'm not really sure on there order to delivery times or if they've got any better 😃

Most importantly, it looks seriously cool! I believe you're now a fully qualified hax0r! I really want to follow what you do with this both in terms of hardware and software.

I think we need to come up with some interesting use cases. For example, using the SDR and GPS APIs or command line programs to allow you to look for a frequency on a transmitter and drive around to triangulate it!
