It's a tamborim. Pearl sells a version that has a mount, I would highly recommend it. I personally added snares under the head to give it a "popcorn snare drum" sound.

well done brad! I follow your work, truly inspirational. With regards the the snares, how did you mange to make the hold? did you tape them to the bottom of the tamborim? Regards

That's what's I thought. I bought this piece to play this school semester but I found a minle pop snare/Timbale to use instead almost sounds exactly the same.
