I absolutely loved the Black Abyss tour! I remember being SO thankful for the hot shower and soup and bagels at the end. Haha. Totally exhausted but also totally exhilarated!

I was planning on doing this with some friends in November, but I'm sort of glad I watched this video ahead of time. I definitely didn't picture it being such a small space (even though I know it's a cave tour). Looks like so much fun but I think I'd probably have a panic attack doing this haha.

Apart from the regular boat ride in the cave to see glow worms, which other activity/tour here can be done while wearing glasses?

There are walking tours too, like the Ruakuri Cave and Arapuni Cave. If you check out our channel, we have videos on those activities too :)

@@NZPocketGuide we met up with some guides who gave us wet suits, hard hats with torch lights and those huge aeroplane inner tyres to float down on. They gave the group a pep talk and a practice jump off a (for me) really high pier into the river. I was the scaredy cat of the group. Once everyone jumped we set out to climb down into the caves. I can't remember if we got soup and toast but it didn't matter. It was a great adventure all round, floating, leaping down holes and diving down through submerged openings. NZ is a beautiful country with incredible sights.

Question for Laura on this, Do you think this is doable in contacts? From the amount of water, and your lack of glasses, I'm assuming you did it that way.
@NZPocketGuide
@NZPocketGuide 6 жыл бұрын
Wow you've got a good eye for detail! Yes I did the whole tour with my contacts and had no issues at all. But to be honest I am used to get wet with my contacts so it does not bother me. I've heard that it bothers some other people.

Ok cool, I'm practically blind without contacts or glasses and with how wet you guys got made me wonder how it was. It looks like absolute fun out of all three of the different routes you guys did.

How long did you see glowworms in the cave for?
@NZPocketGuide
@NZPocketGuide 5 жыл бұрын
We go to float under the glowworms while our tour guide was singing, it was a great experience, probably lasted 5-10min max. It is quite hard to remember the timing correctly as it was underground and with heaps of adrenaline kicking in... When are you planning to go to Waitomo Ewa?

They allow camera? Did it in 2016 and it was forbidden to bring gopro or camera.
