Thanks for sending me heer John. I love the Tenkara footage. Perfect equipment for that type of fishing. Beautiful fish! When I was guiding Vets in the GSMNP I asked a friend, a full time guide who also guided in Alaska for 13 years, about trying it. The waters up the mountains are typically pretty small and I thought it might be easier to work with what is basically a graphite "cane pole". He was pretty, OK, VERY graphic in his answer. He said he tried it once in Alaska. All the rage and such. Hooked a big King and discovered the weakness of the technique. No reel. No drag. He said that fish drug him into deep water and ran him over two rapids, nearly drowning him, before it finally broke off. 🤪😂😱 He said he went home, threw the Tenkara rod in the trash, and decided to stay with conventional fly fishing equipment. I never did buy one.

Glad you enjoyed it! Was a magical day, despite getting stranded in the snow for an extra day!

Those “Golden trout” are actually cutthroat trout. Notice the orange slash on its throat. All of them too

Specifically, I think they are Colorado River Cutthroat that are small and typical of backcountry lakes in that area. images.app.goo.gl/tiD5Lx1UmcUU1H649) At the time the video was made we were unsure. On one of our previous trips we did in fact catch goldens in a meadow creek behind Mt Whitney in the high Sierras nearly 20 yrs ago. Both are really beautiful fish!

These rare fish were petitioned to be on the endangered species list in 1999, but there was no action taken. They are the only native trout in the Green River drainage in Wyoming. They only occupy a small percentage of their range and typically exist only in isolated headwater streams with limited access like the one we were hiking along!

Also, it is not Wind River Ranges... It is Wind River Range. And... it is not Green Lakes... it is Green River Lakes. Otherwise a pretty cool video. :-)
