Walked our insane adolescent labrador through the woods today in the rain. Key mindset shift for me was to think whenever the weather is shite, “If this was the last time you ever got to experience this weather, what would you focus on that you would miss once it was gone?” Cheers Hazey. Hope you’re well.

That cheeky laugh makes my day. Bread bags are number one. I remember as a youngster the old bread bags were a saviour after the old wellys got soaked. Theyre also useful if youre caught out cycling in the freezing rain, just slip em over your hands. Beware the bewildered stares from people though🤣

Great video, beautiful light and colours. The only thing I'd add in case of really bad condensation is a lightweight bivvy bag over the sleeping bag. I go Alpkit Hunka XL as a big bloke. Just a backup and if things go Pete Tong with the tent it's a survival option.

All good advice, I once did a TGO challenge hike across Scotland and it rained every day except one. I used a rubble sack for years but recently I bought a big dry-bag to use instead. My other tip is to use the rubble sac as a groundsheet in the awning of the tent if the ground is muddy. Also with a two-skin tent keep the inner in the bag and the outer can go outside and just get wet!

Thanks for this Haze. Something I noticed years ago about my Big Agnes tent. They advertise that you can set it up in the rain under the fly, but the fly is useless until the poles plug into the tabs on the tent. (Which raises the question: hasn't anyone else noticed how stupid it is to hire cute kids in khakis to stand in front of a table and prattle on about camping gear they've never seen before? ) So I made a ground sheet and glued on tabs for the poles. Also for wet feet, somehow I'd missed the instruction that to keep your waterproof boots waterproof you have to keep applying waterproofing. I did make the only pair of waterpoof gaiters in the history of the world. The trick was neoprene spats tied around and under the boot. And no zippers up the sides. (those are for snow and using crampons not wading through the UK. ) For wading through the UK, before the guys in Ullapool told me to put on waterproofiing, I found long Sealskinz socks to be terrific. These are a more expensive version of the bread bags which was about the only thing we could do for our feet back in the 1970s. Tent clothes is great advice. No matter what I've always held back a pair of sleeping bag socks. They are only for the sleeping bag. And crossing an ocean on a sailboat I found that cheap Japanese fisherman plastic rain jacket and plastic pants were near perfect. My fancy Goretex Berghaus jacket would get damp and stay damp for days. For the rubble sack I carry heavy duty trash compactor bags and large trashbags. The trashbags can work as sleeping bivys in a pinch. And as I was sleeping mostly in a rain fly, if there was any slope at all when I woke up in the morning up to a meter of my legs was sticking out the bottom of the fly. So loops at the top end that I can tie paracord to stakes or poles. Doesn't take much. Also I'd usually always sleep inside a very light weight bivy sack. I also like a poncho if the rain is constant. But getting the poncho over your back pack. I think my 'experiments' on a Dorset hill top prove definitively you that it is impossible to toss the back flap in the air and let the wind drape over the back pack. I could never get this to work, even in 10 mph winds. Always pull it up from behind than then on to your head.
